  • A piece of Touhou's history that remains hidden in the past, and a medium I thought I'd never be going over in a video. Today we're talking about the story of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise.

On the Princess Kaguya comment, ZUN has stated that Imperishable Night was always planned from the beginning. EoSD and PCB were just set up in order to create it. So the fact that mention of Kaguya is in DiPP isn't too surprising.

The comiket 63 stories are probably some of the most underappreciated ones in all of touhou project. Theres all kinds of stuff like a carnival that has a half human half youkai, people using opium to ward off magic, a store selling love potions, and a person who places real eyeballs in a doll. People seem to never care that these are things in touhou project.

i find it interesting how disconnected yet connected dipp is with hifuu and touhou

If Makai is an “Otherworld” in its own right that exists separate to Gensokyo, then what if the beautiful blonde girl in the story “left Gensokyo” by entering Makai?
That could potentially serve as a piece of evidence for Alice being the culprit.

10:30 fun and creppy fact about this portrait version.
There's an "evil eye" behind the jacket girl.
The evil eye is a generic enemy from PC98 (Appeared in touhou 2 and 4)
Hmmm... what are doing that eye right here?

DiPP is one of my favorite stories in touhou, tucked away in this innocent little music album story that will fly under many people's radars. It's wonderful to get a video shining a spotlight on it!

Also wow this is so interesting. Since she leaves Gensokyo, and since this is the first album, couldn't it be about Maribel?

The clown actually is a reference to the fact Flandre Scarlet and Ronald Mcdonald are the same person

Interesting little detail that may or may not mean something: one of Mokou's spellcards is called "Death of the Honest Men". I don't feel secure enough to theorize anything about a possible involvement of Mokou with this story, but the reference is there.

There was also an honest man that was seemingly reborn.

The “Honest Man” is the guy she killed to get the Hourai Elixir

In Mokou's story from the manga, she killed an "honest" man so she would get the Hourai Elixir.

    i have a better theory
    (ripping off the Touhou Wiki)
Eight honest people (implied to be thieves) were spirited away to Gensokyo, after one of them found a little hole in a peach tree. Finding themselves in a strange land, they tried to stay together and survive, but each of them start dying. The most curious ran into the depths of the forest and was tricked by a mysterious pierrot, and was beheaded. The earliest to rise walked around a lake, where this person was entranced by the figure of a dancing red-white shrine maiden. It began to rain, developing into a storm, and the most beautiful person was taken captive by the pierrot and dragged into the storm. That night, the six remaining people held a party. The youngest got bored and walked away, but in the darkness, this person got caught by the pierrot and was immediately beheaded. The most cowardly became paranoid and depressed with the idea that they could no longer return to their world. This person tried to find a way to escape, but eventually gave up and decided to self-hang instead. For some reason, this person survived, and was given a new lease of life, returning to the group.
After they woke up, the five members find themselves in darkness, having been captured by the pierrot. Four of them tried to come up with escape plans, but the wisest of them believed that it was futile and doesn't act. However, the escape plans actually worked and they leave the wise one behind, who was stabbed in the back after eventually realizing something was behind him. The remaining group returned to a strange Western house they had found deep in the forest. The most mature soon died after drinking poisoned coffee. The most wary of the group found the body, yet does not tell the others, suspecting one of the other two in particular was the culprit. The wary one became very careful about avoiding the others, but was nailed to a tree during the night. The earliest to rise was then poisoned at breakfast, realizing too late who the culprit was. The final member, the one who had tried to self-hang, woke up with a headache and couldn't remember the previous evening. This person discovered to be the only one left of the group, and concluded the culprit was the one whose coffee was poisoned. With no remaining attachments to the world, this person finally self-hang once more. (Alternatively, it is implied that this last person, who survived the hanging, is actually the one who poisoned the coffee, ham and eggs, and nailed his member to the tree. All of which are done after he had supposedly reborned as a killer. His claim of being poison in his dinner might actually be his excuse to deny killing his members.)
Days later, a shrine maiden saw a blonde girl coming from the direction of the abandoned house in the forest. The girl mischievously stuck out her tongue out and quickly bowed as she laughed and walked away, leaving Gensokyo. The shrine maiden realized that this girl was the only woman of the eight honest men, but paid no mind.
i think that the person who tried to kill themselves was Alice Margatroid , and the pierrot was ?????????? , let me explain
sometime after Mystic Square , Alice was YEETED out of Makai and Gensoukyou into the outside world by Shinki(perhaps with a dose of amnesia) after traveling with their buddies after a successful raid ( beacause they were implied to be thieves ) they got dragged into a peach tree and DiPP begins , after watching her friends die one by one she decided to kill herself but was unsuccessful , after all her friends die , she decides to self hang once more but it was only mentioned that her feet was off the ground implying that she started to fly of became a youkai after spending too much time in Gensoukyou , thus becoming the girl mentioned in the epilogue
    the Pierrot however was.......
during the story section in UN . Owen wa kanojou na no ka ? the eldest said this
Seems like I saw a shrine maiden at some point. Was I just imagining it?
By the way, was her hair really that blonde?
this exclamation said that during his last moments , he saw a blonde miko , sure there were mikos in Touhou , Heck , the MC was one but none were blonde , that when I realized that I saw a person that matched the depiction in DiPP
    this was the person
    en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/File:Zun005.JPG
so there was the mystery solved
(note : this theory was created by a random person on TV Tropes , credits to them for making this theory )
edit: or....... it could just be an analogy for Maribel Han and being turned into a Youkai

dunno if I'd agree this is ZUNs best writing. games like pofv, ddc and wbawc have incredible writing if you look into them past the surface

My theory is that the pierrot is the cowardly one and that the girl from the honest men is the mature one. The beautiful one is “unable to return to where the others are” so how would they reach the mansion that everyone was staying at? Meanwhile the mature one is taken out with a love potion. Love potions don’t usually kill their victims and also zun usually avoids homosexuality so it makes sense for the pierrot to use it on the girl. After she fell in love with the clown she ditches her maturity and starts acting like a clown herself at the end.

This story is unironically one of the best horror story i ever read, just the last line sends me shiver every time I go back and read it "There are eight less people in this paradise, "Gensokyo". Gensokyo has lost these honest men forever. It's just a change in the population count. Not important news in the least." really emphasized no matter how fucked up and convoluted a story could be death is just a normal occurrence and it doesn't matter.

Regarding the story for Reincarnation, my impression is that the girl and the daughter are the same person, either she doesn't age (Remilia?), or she reincarnated (ha). That's because the text is basically saying "a girl used to live there, nowadays I've seen another one just like her, so it must be her daughter", implying that there's a time gap between the two events, and that the protagonist is just guessing it's her daughter due to the circumstances

I think I saw that post you definitely didn't make at some point, pretty interesting read. I don't know if deep analysis is really my thing though. I had planned on briefly touching upon some of WBaWC's complexities once I get there in the Era videos, so maybe I will refer to that post then.
