Very promising new talent. They must be nurtured and taught the finer techniques of singing as was championed by the likes of the late Arlene Auger, Fritz Wunderlich, Boris Kristoff and countless others. May all our legends rest in peace.
He took on a "monster" in this aria. Orchestra dominated him and yet I don't think it wasn't the orchestra's fault. He just wasn't big enough. He has a nice voice, but don't ask too much of it or you'll lose it.
Out of all the Arias in Carmen this is by far the hardest--because of the full orchestra and the low notes--you might have thought the orchestra would have toned it down some--Instead ... they played even louder than they had to. A shame and yet, you kept finesse for most of it and you even played a bit with a few of the notes ... who could blame you there. This aria is suicide.
Your probably right- (re the orchestral volume) but the singer ATTHIS STAGE dosen't have a hell of a big voice to sing this taxing piece esp in the upper rego. But he can only get better.Great effort from an obviously talented young voice.
Or maybe his voice is just too small for this actual role? The aria is weird becuase his voice sounds like it'd do wonders in the more lyrical repertoire like "Bella siccome me un angelo" or even "Hai gia vinta la causa"
Don't blame the orchestra. The singer's voice is to small for the role. To do true justice to the aria you really need to be a dramatic baritone/bass-baritone with a large volume output. He'd probably excel in Mozart, Rossini, and other Bel Canto repertoire.

Se studia molto e bene diventera un ottimo baritono. Per ora e' piu un' ottimo interprete. Ma non basta...

Troppo chiaro il timbro per questo ruolo. Non convince.
Where is the voice production!! AT TIMES HE CANNOT BE HEARD OVER THE ORCHESTRA. He is not singing, he is shouting most of the time.
