  • In this video, I'm still at Chuckwalla running counter-clockwise for Round 3 of CVMA's 2022-23 Winter Series aboard my 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R, qualifying to race in the Amateur Middleweight (600s) class! Building on a decent foundation from Friday, I set out with the goal of beating my 1:56.43 personal best lap. Check out the video to see if I was able to do it!

      Appreciate the support! 🙂
Yes, that was an unfortunate incident. Not sure if she made contact with the bike in front, got on the gas a little too hard and unloaded the front, or just pushed it a little too hard for the low track temperature (probably less than 65F).

    Nicely done!
I like the view showing what your right hand is doing.
I need to put a mount on my bike so I can get video of
myself from that view. I definitely need to improve with
    my throttle/brake skills.
Thanks for sharing and keep yourself safe! 😃👍❤️🏍

It was quite surprising to me too! It was cold out, though. Track temp was definitely less than 65F that session.

Hi Chad, I’m an intermediate track rider (also based in SoCal) and trying to get as much seat time before I start racing. Quick question - how many sets of tires do you go through each race day/weekend? You mentioned at the end that you’re going to put on a fresh front tire for the race. Do you use a different set of tires for practice, qualifying and racing?
Love the vids and thank you in advance!

Hey JD! That's awesome, racing is a blast! It depends on the track and conditions, but I typically run a set of used tires from the prior race weekend on Friday, and depending on how I'm feeling put on a new set either for qualifying or for my first race. This weekend I bought a second rear tire because I was getting some cold tearing on Saturday due to the cool conditions. Soft tires don't wear the best when the track surface is cold. But typically, I will put on a new front tire at some point, and I guess 1-2 rears, and it all just depends on time and how confident I still feel in the tire. Pirellis, which I've been running since May, have a shorter window of peak performance and wear faster than Dunlops, but their peak grip is higher than a comparable Dunlop tire imo. But, the last time I was riding Dunlops, I was getting 3-4 days out of a set no problem. Probably wouldn't be the case today as my pace has improved, but I'm sure they would still last considerably longer than my Pirellis.

@@hiimchad I truly appreciate the thorough response, Chad. This helps gives me an idea of what to expect in terms of cost as all I pretty much need now is my race license, which I’ll probably obtain through TrackDaz next year and an extra set of fresh tires. Also, thanks for the note on Pirelli’s and Dunlops. I haven’t made the move to slicks yet and I’m currently working through my set of Supercorsa’s. I’m gonna assess the condition of them after Auto Club Speedway next month and consider slicks for my next set. Thank you again and happy holidays!

@@Rival.R1 give the Metzler TD slicks a consideration if your looking to go to slicks , I run on both 13+ 675 and 17+ 765 RS , never had a issues being out of temperature window, heaps of grip and good tyre life, I run in medium fast pace here (track days, not in a race yet) Metzler also made by Pirelli, and they are a cost effective tyre. I've got 5 track days out of a set , no drop off yet, I'll get 1 more on the rear and then I'll get a new set, and you can flip the rear (which I've done)
Hope this helps , racing though may be a control tyre , depends on the series you enter so the Metzler might not be an option.
