      @Eric Cartman Two different strengths that aren't easily comparable. Although, rings gymnastics has far more carryover to weightlifting than vice versa

    • @tia4361
      @tia4361 3 роки тому +6

      @Eric Cartman Yes, the two strengths can't be compared in a 1:1 ratio, but Coach Sommer's athletes were actually able to bench and deadlift a considerable amount of weight after never having touched a barbell. Obviously not squat, you're never really using your legs under a load in gymnastics. But if you can planche, you can curl a lot of weight chances are. If you can Iron Cross or Maltese, you can bench a lot of weight, your pectoral muscles are used to the load.

    I speak Portuguese, and on the part with Yuri Van Gelder, the commentators were talking about how he is amazing on rings and like Chusovitna he is one of the oldest ever competing gymnasts and bla bla, but how his major problem has always been his dismounts. They said he tried flipping backwards, tried forwards and tried twisting but it never worked well, so he ended up going back to his basic double layout, which always takes a ton of deductions because it doesn't meet the dismount difficulty requirements in the code of points. It's so true it hurts, he could have kept winning medals if he just worked on getting a slightly better dismount, even one twist would probably do it, but unfortunately it never happened :/

    Everyone wonders how much strengh you need for doing this, here is the Calculation(I know its nerdy but I find it very interesting)
    Look at the position of there Arms
    Just try to hold two Dumbbels in the Exact position(turn yourself in the right position》for example in Maltese they hold themself above the rings, so you have to hold the Dumbbell above you while laying on the ground...
    If you want to hold the position you have to hold 40% of your Bodyweight in each Dumbbell, cause your arms are the angle where you deliver force
    So if you weight 72kg you have to hold 30kg in each hand..

    • @nanonasone3113
      @nanonasone3113 3 роки тому +2

    • @ringsking
      @ringsking  8 років тому +4

      you never know what other things people do, but rings strength can be attained through hard work and training! (and some people also just have a higher natural strength to weight ratio which can also give them an extra advantage)

      Hey Dean, in my opinion Danny Rodrigues was trying to do a piked victorian here and only competed it like this once. After that he made it more like a V cross (I personally like it done this way but don't know if it went into the code of points as a new skill)

    I was hoping to see my favorite ring routine on here. I can't remember who he was, but at an Olympics, one gymnast did an iron cross, then turned sideways as he was holding it. Maybe someone can remind me who he was.

    • @ringsking
      @ringsking  4 роки тому +1

      That skill is called an Olympic cross and is now not allowed. A number of gymnasts competed in years ago and Azarian was the first to do it (he also created the backward roll to cross which has his name)
