This song is for everyone, guy or girl, who was ever abused... Not just by a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife, it is true to all the kids who have been abused by family or bullied at school... It's for anyone who is in a bad situation and needs to get out... Just remember that it isn't always a male abuser and female victim, it can be anyone to anyone... I've known enough victims of different forms of abuse in my time, and now I wish I had sent them this song
@snowphoenixpink On Oprah she said Mutt cheated on her with her best friend which shattered her world and she grew up with her father being abusive to her mother.
don't forget the guys that took the heartbreak to leave the girl breaking their hearts, it is not a one way street for only one sex. :) positively never going back
Wonderful images of a great and very beautiful artist: Shania was one of the best singer in the world ! ( not only for country). All she got in her brillant career and difficult, hard life is full deserved !
this song reminds me of the abusive relationship I had left when I was 20 with help from a very good friend that loves me no matter what ... name being kept to myself
Not only this song by @ShaniaTwain helps me to try to deal with my situation, but all her music. Mostly because I know she knows what an abusive life and our personal marraiges that ended for almost identical to the other. She's genuinely a good person whom didn't deserve any of the bad she's been through.! Sometimes I still blame myself, or think if I was better things wouldn't have been nor ended etc.. Don't know what or exactly how she felt, but her music is heart, and so powerful! She's a genuinely good soul, and although we'll never meet to ever really know one another. I still just admire her courage to pick herself up, and she's out showing everyone what she's made of! Very proud of her, and hope one day... ya know on that NEVER happening chance to be honored to meet such a strong and multi-talented, and funny woman who gets it. Not because she's a famous person either! I don't have friends as folks seem to be nice to your face. Then there's those daggers in your back when you turn around! This song should most definitely be on her greatest hits! Go Shania!
She saved my kids and my life, and don't know it. I've tried without success to reach out to, and first be able to thank her. Then I have to remember my place....
I've, thankfully, never stayed in an abusive relationship (I'm a stroppy mare!) but since being diagnosed with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis and losing so many physical abilities (walking, dexterity, energy etc) the line "I'd rather die standing than live on my knees" means so much more than it used to. I will fight this damned thing for as long as there's fight in me. The day that goes I want to go too. It'll be done.
How do you know that a public site like this wont help? Someone might see the persons post and get in touch with them and help them. People make friends with other victims and create a lifeline if they ever need it. Ive seen it happen first hand. In my opinion...if a persons here to just listen to the music...then thats fine...no ones putting a gun to any ones head to read the comments and no ones forcing them to comment back.
im doing just that im a m an expert of abuse from birth till 50 ..,do not comment unless you have been there, oh and if you are ..shut down and run and make your own proud life,,,click like if you do it any woman ,child or man BE BRAVE
I may be wrong but i think that she came to singing beause her parents died and she had to look after her younger siblings, she had to work many jobs. I think she ended up in a bar or something and someone heard her singing. As i said dont quote me but i think it was something like that. :)
Thats no problem, glad to help you out. I do understand why the comment annoyed you. Some people do just believe they know everything and no one else knows the same.
@annie17211 It is not as easy as you may think. My abuser wasn't even a spouse, boyfriend, or a parent, it was a sibling, and it is NOT easy to get rid of a sibling from your house. I have tried countless times, and only after 6 years was he court ordered to be removed from the house. All I could do was avoid home as much as possible. So watch what you say, because you apparently know nothing about abuse.
@lilsweetpea711 Yeah, ever since my experience with abuse, I strive to help others in abusive relationships. I am in college now and I am studying computer programming and web design, and in the future, I want to create a website about abuse and domestic violence. Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month? I want to spread awareness and to give help and advice to those who are in abusive situations.
Don't make comments like that, it makes it seem like you are raising yourself above others. I admit I don't know her whole story, but it isnt my business to is it? I do know she grew up in a poor family, which would indoubtedly have led to family friction and presumably found refuge in her music. Also I am sure she made mistakes in the past regarding love and living. But so does everyone. Anyway, don't judge people like that, it ain't cool. Macklan
Abuse is wrong. Telling others they "must need attention" when they are merely relating their real life story to a song, is rude and uncalled for. As a survior of abuse myself, I say talk. Get it out. Regardless of where or who to. Its better then bottleing it up. If youre in danger, seek help. If someone you know is being abused, dont stay silent. Everyday that you are silent is another day that person lives in fear. Dont do that to them. 1-800-779-SAFE(7233) Its free and can save a life!
@BlackNeon9 it is a fact that men can be a victim of domestic violence just as a woman can. the law seems to favor women but as im sure you know abuse knows no age, gender, orientation, or boundary. regardless of the reason no person deserves to be mistreated. i hope you find somone who treats you with dignity and respect
Dear annie17211. Please try to understand that when you put words like that into print or vocalize them you are now the abuser. I am sure you will have trouble seeing it that way, but everone who reads the words is now being slapped in the face by you and it feels like a punch to just read your words.
Shania talks the truth - I had one who beat seven shades out of me (I took him to the Police which was successful - sort of) and my daughter's father who tried to strangle me (didn't know I was pregnant at the time) and it hurt so much when she wanted to know where he was - have been totally off men ever since!
try to understand the way they're feeling... theres a sense of loyalty that is really hard to get away from. there's also... mental repression, for lack of a better term. if your told time and time again that that person is doing things for your own good and that you're horrible etc, that person has a hold on you. just be patient
i had two abusive relationships.i am not in them now but i am happy i learned from them.and no i will never go back to that kinda life.and i rather die standing than live on my knees i have been there.and dont want it ever again.i am however still trying to find more self esteem.
okay.. babygirl u probably read a book about shania okay? stop saying u kno more than is! okay? like honestly ur not the ruler of us all... i hate pple like that! evy 1 hasa story behind them o.k? just cause u kno jhalf of it u dont need to post it evywhere >.>
I got out after 27 years and I ain't lookin back. Shame on the abusers of this world!! I will never be their victim again....EVER! Yes, I have played this song often to give me the strength to just walk away and become the person I was meant to be :)
@96greendaylover I am not. I still have to go testify in court against the person who abused me. I am not afraid anymore. I finally found my courage, Shania Twain's message is powerful. Plus my friends are by my side and so is God.
People share their experiences for a reason .... to make others see... that there is HOPE !!!! It has nothing to do with attention seeking ...... so how about you get over your "holier then thou attitude"... and buy yourself a soul O_o
I think provoking someone into attacking and taking out a bad day on someone else are different. In the case of the former, the antagonist (provoker) claims at least partial fault. For everything else, it's the attacker's fault.
the freedom programme is for any women who wants to learn more about domestic violence and abuse ...it helps women gain self-esteem and the confidence to improve the quality of their lives. ..
@lhsbonez Hey Hun. You will get through it. I have found someone new and he is a breath of fresh air. Mates set up but there is another life - I never thought there was. They not al bad. Chein up.
I think Shania Twain is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and she still is! Her beauty is amazingly perfect in all regards. It is not often that the popular singer looks THAT good
I think the point that ifu06529 was trying to make is that sometimes battered people intentionally provoke their attackers. Those people, while a victim of violence, is by no means innocent.
Good on ya. I the same. Now he doing same to someone else - she been there before with him and she took him back - some folk live on the wire. Good for u.
hi,im not an adult but i know they do the craziest things sometimes. i dont beleive anybody deservs to get beaten. you have every right to defend yourself.
This song is helping me deal with the abuse I have gone through and to give me the strength to fight for what is right for those who have been abused like me.
This song got me through an extremely abusive relationship. Nick put me in a coma for 2 weeks. I came to when my best friend played this song right beside my bed. God bless Shania Twain.
there's a there's a want there's one her name is Vettel she was walking down the street and talking to herself I didn't say anything at all all I did was bring my dogs in the house and she start talking bunch of s*** she needs to be quiet or I'll end up telling that Jesse or Andy or Michelle or Francis so she needs to stop talking her crap cuz I didn't even say anything to her at all
Hey girls i listening to this for last time. Been throgh it all -in love - trusting again that they not all bad. There is another life out there. I come out other side = what one man can do so can another!!! Be strong girlies. xxxxx
@lhsbonez Hey there. Glad that you are able to heal through the abuse. I pray you, your family and friends and all those suffering from abuse the best. Keep God first - Matthew 6:33 & John 3:16. Much love & God Bless!!!
I was in a really ... destructive relationship for almsot two years. This song really helped me through, and gave me an excuse to finally end it. Too many tears were spent on someone who wasn't worth a minute of my time, much less 19 months of it. I've learned to wait for the good guys now :)
this helped me find the strength to leave a guy and now i have married the guy of my dreams and he treats me right thank you shania twain
Gemma Vicary you are very smart, friend
I love her song
Never thought about blokes getting it but my sympathies lie with him. Good on him-same as men-she won't change. Get out big time best of luck.

crazy this song wasn't released. It was one of very few not released from the album but it's one of my faves if not my favourite Shania song
Wonderful images of a great and very beautiful artist: Shania was one of the best singer in the world ! ( not only for country). All she got in her brillant career and difficult, hard life is full deserved !
Another great song that should have been a single
Got that right. I am not in love with a lot of her stuff, just too commercial, but this may be about her best.
A courageous and inspirational song every bit as good as some of her better known material.
this song reminds me of the abusive relationship I had left when I was 20 with help from a very good friend that loves me no matter what ... name being kept to myself
the song is for everybody..........i'd rather die standing than dying on my knees........beggin baby please

True ! Shania is an uplifting example for us all
She saved my kids and my life, and don't know it. I've tried without success to reach out to, and first be able to thank her. Then I have to remember my place....

@doodoopapah It's 'Black Eyes' this song is about abuse
This is the ultimate anthem for any woman whose ever been in an abusive relationship! For Real!
Find your self esteem and be forever free to dream! I've been there and am so glad it's over! Perfect advice for any woman whose ever been abused ;)!
If Karma isa legitimate concept, then do suffering people actually deserve it? If we help them are we merely prolonging their Karmic debt?
God she's beutiful :)
love u .. 5*

Very nice song and pictures!
Thumbs up!
Now I need guidance on how to help someone who hasn't left ... and refuses to walk away & let go of an abusive partner 0_0
I totally agree mate - I had it physically, but mostly mentally. When I look back at that time it just don't seem like me man.
While that might be slightly true, no one has the right to physically abuse someone (no matter what the reason may be).
really love this song!
This song is helping me deal with the abuse I have gone through and to give me the strength to fight for what is right for those who have been abused like me.
u know sometimes i hate being half canadian, but seeing as how she is, i aint gonna mind much longerXD
