    It is said that, when Emperor Vir Cotto rebuilt the capital of the Centauri Republic, he had two large statues placed outside the city gates: Londo Mollari, and G'Kar. They are positioned on opposite sides of the gate, facing away from each other. Together, they protect the Republic...and watch each other's backs.

      Beat me too it was going to mention that as described by mr Garibaldi who recognized the statues placement in that manner such an incredible storytelling element in the end espeically their conversation before the ending between them happened where Londo fully opened up to Gkar about everything to the man who would be simultaneously his greatest fear and greatest friend

      The look of absolute shock on Vir's face as Londo says he's Sorry to G'Kar tells you just what a monumental thing it is for him to apologize.

    This was one of the THE best character arcs ever written for any scifi series. The pair started as enemies only to become the best of friends.

      @@makinapacal I came to post that. One of the best interactions of many those two had. Andreas and Peter were close friends, but you'd never know it the way they just couldn't stand each other on-screen until the end. It didn't help that Andreas was a method actor and required being in-character at all times in while in the costume and make-up.

      @@AuthorDodgeMerrin , I identified with those guys because I did that work all of my life, first in field service and then in power plants. There was nothing like walking in, instantly knowing where to look for the problem that was keeping the plant from running, easily fixing it, then watching everything works properly. Not quite as important as the B5 defense grid, but you get the picture. Great for one's ego.

    I'll always think that it was G'Kar's forgiveness that gave Londo the strength to face what the Drakh had in store for him. Yes, he was doing it for his people, but I think G'Kar's forgiveness gave Londo hope.

    They just don't make SciFi shows like this anymore. The amount of character development was outstanding. The writers focused on the story, not the effects.

    • @catherinehubbard1167
      @catherinehubbard1167 Рік тому +3

      Yes. Good writing came first, and everything else bloomed around it. The wonderful actors could rise to their best, and everything else, like music, design, photography, fell into place. I think the story and the emotion inspired everyone involved to another level.

      The episode that blew my socks off was "Believers" during the first season. After that episode I realized that here was a series written like none before; not afraid to take chances, treating religion with respect instead of callous dismissal. This was a series written to eclipse anything labeled "Trek".

      Which one? G'Kar had three get "elevator" scenes in the series. First, when he and Londo are insulting each other waiting for the elevator. Second, when he runs into Vir in the elevator after their war stared. And third, when they thought they would die in the elevator.

    Londo: Even though we are not at war, military spending has increased (I think it was 50%, but cant remember). Why?
    G'Kar: Well with everyone now at peace with one another, perhaps you are planning to invade yourselves for a change. I find the idea curiously appealing. Once you've finished killing each other, we can plow over all the buildings and plant rows of flowers that spell out the words "too annoying to live", in letters big enough to be seen from space. Would you like some spoo? It's fresh!
    Londo: Faa! Get that away from me! Spoo needs to age, it needs time to cultivate it's flavor. To eat fresh spoo is to insult a Centauri!

    I will say this. I would love it if someone of some group redid the series. Kept all the live action stuff. Kept everything... but redid the CG'd moments with Modern tech and Animation. IMAGINE HOW SICK THAT'D BE!!!
    That aside. You know what. This series was just so well written. I can't honestly think of a moment when watching the show I ever got tired of it. I've watched a lot of TV and shows. And all of them eventually bore me or I need a break from them.
    Not Babylon 5. This arc is just one reason.

    It might not go in here but the moment G'kar buys him a drink in the early series, the look of horror Londo has, when he realises just how badly his actions have messed everything up. I think that's part of the moment when Londo realises that G'kar can be a good person.
