Every time I hear her sing this song, it makes me cry especially the line "in a moment we both will be old" knowing that many in the video are now gone. Wish we could turn back the clock.
The Kings were one-of-a-kind. Actor Robert Clarke was a lucky man for marrying into that family. I liked their TV series a lot years ago. Unforgettable.
Well said and well put! He had a successful acting career on his own but marrying into the musical King family was a wonderful added asset for him & for the Kings.
Brought tears to my eyes! I have so many sentimental memories of watching the King Family on television, as a child, with my parents and grandparents. This video brought it all back to me! Thank you so much, LorreB, for making it available.
Me too. I am probably a bit younger than you, but I remember a lot from those days. We always had music in my house. My dad always sang (as did I) and he had tons of records. He played music all the time from all different eras--mostly from the 1930s through the 1960s, but I got to hear everything growing up from classical periods through the 70s...and every genre too! We had a lot of Hispanic music too because my father was Spanish. I remember the King Family on TV growing up and they seemed so genuine and joyful. Sadly, those days are long gone after the world became more cynical and more libertine in the late 60s. I would love to go back to relive happier times.
I have to admit that while growing up in the 60s & 70s I didn't watch the King family much on TV, though they were a constant presence. I wish I had. What an incredibly talented & wholesome family!
Alyce had such a beautiful voice and I always noticed that her facial expressions showed that she was truly feeling what she was singing. I have her 1974 LP and I can't get enough of her beautiful voice. I would LOVE if this 1967 Thanksgiving Special was released on DVD. Any chance?
It's available on DVD....in the USA A KING FAMILY CHRISTMAS...double disc set - I found it at Amazon's. contains various programs, about 200 minutes long
I have a casette with Alyce singing" Rock of ages", an old one. Living in Australia, we didn't have their show, so didnt know them. Would appreciate seeing the video clip. Lawrence Willard.
+lawrence willard I'm not sure there is a video clip but I do have a good quality audio clip on my AKC Website Media Clip page: www.lorreb.com/akclarke/akcmediaclips.htm Scroll down about 3/4 of the way to the MP3 Audio Clip Section

So true. What a gifted singer. And her husband Robert was a fine actor.
Contrast this with today's wildly beating music.

@@LorreB Thank you. I hope it's still there! 💖
Marilyn's daughter is now a successful singer in her own right. I was hoping to see Robert and Alyce's son Cam here.
