Thanks as always, Anthony. Which painting do you have your eye on ? I can put it to one side for you, would hate for it to sell before you get it

I love your style. Thank you for posting these. Probably an obvious answer, but is that a calligraphy brush you're using? I haven't purchased one yet as I'm baffled. Wondering if it's a certain quality and size. Thanks!

Thanks Lauren. Yes, it’s a Chinese calligraphy brush. It is part of a cheap set I bought from Amazon, around £15 for ten different sizes. The small ones seem to work the best.

Hello Cristopher. I just fell in love with your work but also I am totally moved by this painting. It make me think of Gatineau Park which is in my area (on the Québec side of the Ottawa region. Is it still available?

Hi Catherine. Thanks so much, yes the painting is still available. If you send me a message via “Contact Shop Owner” on my etsy shop, I can discuss the details with you.

Hey Chris, another wonderful pairing of your work to music! Just out of curiosity, what's your success to failure ratio? ( How many pieces you keep vs toss out?) You are so prolific and it is so wonderful! Cheers

      Thanks, Adam.
That’s quite a difficult question to answer, but I’ll try and explain my thinking !!
When I first started painting, my “success” rate seemed fairly low, although I was kind of happy with my work at the time. Then one day I had a bit of a light bulb moment… I realised that I didn’t have to try and copy exactly what I saw, either in my mind, reference photo, or whatever my inspiration. Once I loosened my expectations, everything seemed to fall into place. I consider most of my paintings to be relatively successful, because I’m happy to go with whatever the paint decides to do and if it deviates from my original vision, I try to work with that instead. Sorry for the long explanation, hope it makes sense !!😂

@@ChrisStephenArt I'm glad to hear about the break through moment and it definitely fits my experience as well. . . when I let go and trust in the process is when I feel I make my best work. I too find doing reproduction work trying to capture exactly what I see I get bored or frustrated! I still do copies of artist I admire just as a self-teaching to figure out how they captured an effect etc. Thanks for being so generous with your post and your replies!
