Workaround for Cascading Parameters in Tableau: What They Are and How To Use Them

Cascading parameters or showing relevant values in a parameter list has a lot of use cases. Cascading parameter changes the value of parameter depending on what is selected in other parameters. Cascading filters are possible in tableau but this particular functionality is not supported in Tableau as of now. In this tutorial I am going to share a work around on how we can create cascading parameters using set actions and collapsible containers.

Hello, thanks for the video. I faced a tough task in which a cascading filter needed to be applied for multiple sheets using different data sources. It's pretty difficult since I need to use Parameters as the filters to apply for all of them. However, the drill-down or cascading effects for parameters like that seem challenging for Parameter. Actually, you entitled the video with "Parameter" but still used the calculated fields and created sets and it seems not to work in my case. Please could you provide me some ideas in this regard? Highly appreciated!

What if the data is not hierarchical ? Category and Subcategory are hierarchical

Unfortunately no, there is not such option for drop down apart from existing use to parameter and filters.
