i tell people that my dogs make me crazy, but they keep me sane. they've adjusted well to sailing, with the exception of one......looee simply puts up with he rigors of being underway. all in all, i couldn't imagine life on my boat without them.
That is absolutely true. They drive us mad and keep us sane! Aww bless them!! I’m pleased to hear they enjoy it. It definitely makes it that much more special when doing this with our four legged friends ⛵️
I have 1 big dog, on my 26" monohull boat. We've both had to adapt. We lived in a noisy hell hole caravan park. I hated it. I moved out of there as soon as I bought my boat. I'm happier, living in a smaller space, it's peaceful. I lived in a marina, at first, to get my dog used to being on the boat. At first, he was scared of jumping on my boat. I had to pick him up & put him on my boat. He'd jump off again. But he would jump in my dinghy, instead ! It took a few goes, but finally he stayed on my big boat & got used to it. He has a doggy lifejacket. He loves the boat, now. 😊
We sail with our 3 Dachshunds on board so I was really keen to watch your video with 3 bigger dogs on board. It certainly does make things a bit more interesting but, as you say, they make our lives whole so they're always part of the crew whether on dry land or at sea.
I also have a very tall dog onboard (an afghan hound). When in a marina I remove the middle lifeline to facilitate entry and exit, it's very simple, just removing a pin.
Excellent! We love to hear of other big dogs sailing! We need to to figure out some alternatives like a gate but haven’t gotten to that as of yet… sounds like a good idea though!
Just came across your channel. As a dog lover too I like seeing the dogs on board with their humans. All channels start from zero but you have a great niche and story to tell. I hope you keep it up and look forward to seeing more.
Thanks for watching! We wouldn’t do this without them, they’re part of the family so although sometimes we may get stressed or annoyed and rarely can also be limited by where we go, they MAKE this trip for us 💙
Great video! We also cruise with our 2 golden retrievers and can’t imagine sailing without them. Unfortunately one of ours doesn’t like rough weather sailing so we do our best to keep things smooth.
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it! Goldens are simply the best and they are great sailing dogs - certainly take to it better than our Bernese 😂 We do our best to keep things smooth too because it’s no fun sailing in chaos anyway!
Love your boat, your dogs and your videos! We are getting ready to move onto a boat with our 4 dogs and plan to do the great loop in a couple of years, so it's great to see how other dog families do it. Thanks for the tips!!! 🐶♥
Thank you for watching!! How exciting about your upcoming adventure - doing it with the doggies is going to be so great!! Feel free to reach out with any questions :)
We love seeing this! Wondering what the transition period for the dogs was like. For instance, Did one take to sailing more than the other? Do you ever worry about hair clogging the bilge?
Hi Kari, thanks for watching! All of our dogs sailed from their puppyhood so their only transition period was when we moved onto the boat full time rather than be weekend sailors. In the first couple of weeks they were a little more reactive to things around them but as weeks passed, this settled down. Now they just watch the world go by both at anchor and in marinas! We don’t worry about the bilge blocking up as we check this regularly and hoover, A LOT😂
Yay, I was really wondering about the 💩thing. My stink boy doesn't like swimming or taking baths so I wonder how he will adjust to boat life when we finally do get our boat and move onboard.
Very good ideeer madam . I don't juse also no lifevests my Golden Retriever hates water his father was a great swimmer and don't want to come out . I start again with training him in our swimmingpool in France next week . I love the company of dogs we have also a beagle and its Family ❤❤❤
Thank you for your feedback! 🐶 That's great to hear that you have a Golden Retriever and a Beagle as part of your furry family. Gradual training in your swimming pool in France sounds like a great idea! 🏊♂️ With patience and positive reinforcement, your Golden Retriever may learn to enjoy swimming just like their father. Enjoy your swim sessions and the company of your adorable dogs! 🌊🐾
Hi, have you actually left the Uk and returned with your dogs on board ? My understanding is that you can not return to the Uk with a dog unless using an approved route (which is basically eurotunnel or commercial ferry) and even then the dog has to be in a car.. ????
You’re correct in that dogs cannot come back on a private yacht directly into the UK, however, they can arrive on a private from Ireland which many pet owners accept as the route back home 😊

You’ve answered every question I had. They look happy
Thanks Desiree! I'm glad we did & pleased that you enjoyed it. They really do love boat life and are very happy living aboard 😊

They are so adorable
They are little hairy heart melters! 😁
So much anxiety about taking my dog. This is great
I’m so pleased to hear that 💚 good luck with your pooch!
Absolutely love this video
Thank you! That’s very kind of you ☺️
Great video guys! Definitely gives us some reassurance that its all possible 🙂
Thank you - it is absolutely doable with a little patience, planning and organisation.

Give them time, effort and plenty positive reinforcement and he will be okay. It’s a trial and error of what works for each dog 😊 best of luck! 😊

Haha, thanks? It's really all just the dogs...
Love this video
Thank you for watching :)
Where do you keep the dogs when they are by themselves on the boat.
We don’t tend to leave them by themselves but they stay down below if that’s the case! Plenty of fans, fresh air and they’re safe and secure 😊

How do you deal with fear of sharks and the dogs.
Such an attack is unlikely in our cruising ground so not a worry at present 😀
I guess you don't need self tailing winches with dogs!
Haha, if only they were willing participants to pull some ropes.. maybe chew... but definitely not pull 😂
@@SailingRagdoll I've met dogs that love to play tug of war so I can't help imagining it. I bet three large dogs together could raise a sail, too!
Where do your dogs poop?💩
On the ground, land, sand? 😂 they don’t toilet on the boat unless we’re doing a crossing, then it’s an artificial grass patch.
Great video but would be helpful if you spoke a little slower - can’t follow what’s being said….
Noted! Thanks for watching :)
You can go to settings and change the speed of playback which changes the audio speed as well. 😊
your accent sounds a bit wierd to me, where are you from?
It comes with the territory... the joys of being bilingual ☺️
This was so awesome to watch and informative! Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching ☺️
