That's a good tip. Another useful stroke to practice is a sculling pry, where you perform a sculling motion in reverse to push the boat away from the paddle rather than towards it. Easier done with a greenland paddle and needs a bit more balance but it is great for getting that last bit closer to the dock if there is not enough room to do a draw stroke between the boat and dock.
