First time watcher, and just subscribed. I loved this video. I’m getting ready to pull the plug on my IT sales career very soon. I also struggle with letting go and trusting the process. I love your take on it. Just let it be and it has worked out for you. Looking forward to watching your videos.

Hey Shawn, thanks for your comment and for subscribing. I think you are really going to like my next video, "Leaving the Tech Industry". I will upload it today or tomorrow. You will really enjoy retirement, once you finally take your time back and start doing things you enjoy.

Thank you and welcome to the channel. I was in CT two years ago on my Tour of New England. We didn't stop in New Haven, but we did see Mystic and Hartford. I sure wish we had more time there. Mystic was beautiful.

Your retirement living is my style. Get out there and do frequent adventures. I totally see myself doing what you’re are doing.

It's the only way to go for me. Hiking and walking on the beach doesn't cost much. I hope you are able to do it soon.

Hey Bret! Thank you for reminding us (me!) that there is uncertainty in much of life. Absolutely loved hearing the relatable stories of your former colleagues in their different stages of life. I could go on a meandering ramble about my own plans. But this is your channel! 😄 So I will shut up and say thanks for keeping me inspired!

Hey Blaine, I'm glad you said that about the three phases. I was thinking that section of the video was a little too long-winded to get the point across, but I wanted to use real-life examples. It really is an important part to understand about the whole retirement process.

    Very interesting.
I had no idea about the three stages. I like it.
The social part has been a bit of a challenge for me. My wife was always the social one while I almost exclusively focused on work. Now our roles have somewhat reversed. I don’t have the stress of work constantly on my mind so I will strike up random conversations with strangers when we go out. Now I know more people in our community than she does and it drives her crazy 😂.
I also struggled with how to “define” myself. In the beginning I just told people that I was an entrepreneur, which is true. Later on, because I was still working too much, I coined the term “Failure at Retirement”. That always gets follow up questions.
I just uploaded a video that you might like about retiring before my wife. It’s scheduled for release in about two weeks.

I will definitely check out your video in a minute Failure. I need some pointers on keeping my wife happy. We watched this video last night together and I may have divulged too much information about her wanting to remodel the house. 😁 I'm just trying to help my viewers stay informed.

It goes live Sunday morning. I hope you live that long with your wife and the remodeling situation 😂@@HopeToProsper

@@FailureatRetirement, thanks for letting me know about Sunday. I checked your channel and didn't see this video, then I saw where you said it was coming soon. I will handle the remodel situation in a prudent timeframe, within a reasonable budget. But I'm definitely not going back to work to make it happen.

Retiring without a pension IMO is going to make for a wild ride. I’m at the point where I’m going to consider my entire portfolio an emergency fund.

It is definitely a wild ride B Poor. I'm hoping for a good year in 2024, since election years are usually good, no matter who wins. After that, I'm looking to move some money from equities to fixed income.

would u have retired even earlier if u could?

    • @HopeToProsper
      @HopeToProsper  6 місяців тому +1

Yes, absolutely. I originally wanted to retire at 55 and I even counted down for three years from 52. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough funding to make it happen. So, I shifted my goal to retire at 60 and then got laid off at 58. I think the sooner, the better, as long as the numbers work, and you have some extra income for safety. Your 50s and 60s are the fun and healthy years and if you can, you should avoid working through them.
