- On 8th January 2022, rescued orphan elephants Larro, Mukkoka, and Naboishu said farewell to the SWT's Nairobi Nursery and took the next step in their journey back to the wild!
The trio graduated to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit in Tsavo East National Park. Read the full story at: www.sheldrickw...
Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. We also secure irreplaceable wilderness areas so that animals will always have space to roam and work with local partners and communities to ensure people and wildlife can live alongside one another.

While it feels great to see them all together as a stranger from afar, it must be beyond wonderful to look at all the elephants you've saved through your own hard work and dedication. Knowing you had an actual hand in all of that. So amazing, thank you.
Just wonderful. Thank you x💕🐘
Thank you, Angela Sheldrick, for always being there.

Sheldrick Trust - making the world a better place and making my day! ❤
Beautiful. It's so inspiring to see them progress. I love how when they arrive as rescue babies and then move on to the different schools they physically change colour to match the habitat. It's symbolic how they shed one life chapter and progress to the next. They arrived coloured by the red mud from nursery habitat to the greyer brown of the next. Good luck beautiful wondrous creatures and thank you to everyone who helped them get to this chapter and taking them to the next.
Beautiful!
So glad to see the graduation of these 3 ...we sponsor Larro so it is heart warming to see such magnificent progress ....congratulations SWT staff...God Bless
Cannot wait to see Larro see her first wild bull!

That is beautiful. Glad these 3 thriving and so sweet to reunite woth the other elephants that they met at the nursery. 💖
Someday I would like to graduate to Ithumba!

Thank you Angela for her loving hearts with these orphanage elephants.
The world is appreciated what you have done for those orphanage elephants including myself!!
I hope you can set up some kind of protection for these elephants because out there some evil people want their 's tucks!!!
So worry for the elephants!!!
The Sheldrick Trust has 22 anti poaching teams , a canine unit with tracker dogs trained to detect ivory illegal bushmeat and weapons, as well as aerial surveillance with 8 planes and 3 helicopters. They don’t just send them out in the wild without doing their best to protect them and their habitat. They rely on donations to fund their work.
So Beautiful - makes my heart sing with joy - just received my certificate for adoption for 1 year of an orphan. Thank you!!!!!!

Always your thought is for them..i love how a couple of their old keepers go to help get them settled im their new homes..very thoughtful..it's a confusing time in a new place..ypur guys love for them shine tho..thanks for sharing
When I watched this video this morning, this old man found himself crying like a baby. What a tough life those little animals were given to lose their mothers in the great big, unforgiving world. But they found the next best thing in the loving care of the nursery. To see those little guys take their next step towards living the way elephants were meant to live was uplifting but also poignant to see that vast expanse of the bush and to think that they will one day be a part of that landscape and its dangers. Naboishu was the little guy, in whose name I sent my donation. I wish I could afford to pay his way until he no longer needs it.
My heart is overwhelmed with joy.
Words fail me, so appreciate living to see the love tku sooo much.
Bless you 🙏
It looks like you're getting more rain in Tsavo this year. 😊☔🐘

Growing up is hard to do. Leaving security for the great outdoors and life
Can any of the keepers realise that they only started with one baby elephant calf? Now they Have a whole herd of Elephant Calves! Well Done You lot are surely leading the way in a very Sophisticated way! From the UK.
Lots of happy rumbles
LIKE FOREVER!!!!!
What is the difference between the Ithumba and Voi units? Is there a reason that some go to one and some go to the other unit. Also how far apart are the units from A) each other B) from the nursery? How many Elephants are kept at each I know when I watched the live feed to the nursery you had 21 babies but what age do they graduate to the re-integration units. Do you get to the point you have too many in the units? Sorry to ask so many questions only because I like to keep an eye on my foster Elephants of which I have 4. Just wonderful animals and such caring and loving keepers too.
You're better of posting your questions on their IG (Instagram) account where they are more active (tag them) or perhaps send them an email.😇
💖💖
I just hope we can win this thing! The Ivory hunters need to realize it's a fail! But they also need to feed their peeps! An economy that makes that work is what Africans truly need! And a market for animal parts, shut down!
🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤
Until the first mud bath, you can always spot the newcomers who are still red from the soil at the Nursery.

Will they have to continue to have milk?
Are there projects elsewhere in Africa or Asia where they return elephants into the wild, trying to combat decreasing numbers of wild elephants?
I follow a few other projects, but none of them have the same goal, even though they rescue either wild or domesticated elephants. And definitely don't have the same scope.
Yeah, I wondered the same thing too.
I came across this elephant rehabilitation in northern Thailand, can't remember the name of the centre, but I think it's being run by this woman named Lek. Elephants in her care seems to be staying for good and what looks to me like she's using them for tourist attraction and donations rather than release them back in the wild once the rehabilitation was over. Same with HERD in Hoedspruit, SA. I used to follow them and have made donations. But now I'm thinking, why have they not released some of the elies?! Apart from Fishan of course, an injured elie. When Jabulani turned a certain age they could've released him back in the wild, free roaming, where he can start his own herd. Same for the other ones specially the youngsters, and I don't think it's too late, they can still release them back in the wild (where they belong) if they really wanted to. Again, to me it seems like they're using the ellies for tourist attraction and donations because next to their stables (homestead) is their Jabulani Safari (Relais & Chateaux) and they take their guests to the close by lake to watch the Jabulani herd walk by on their way back to the stables. I have posted questions about this on their social media but seems to be aloof with my questions and have deleted the first one. So I stopped supporting them.
To me SWT is the only one with transparency about their Trust as far as I know.
Care for Wild in SA is another rehabilitation I follow and they do "care & release" but they only deal with rhinos🙏😇
@@ClaridgesSeven I follow the same organizations. Can they release the elephants probably depends the politics of the country. Do they think they have too many or too few wild elephants? If they think too many, not enough habitat, then releasing them into the wild is not an option.
Yeah, both the Lek's Elephant Nature Park in Thailand and HERD (Jabulani herd) in South Africa are tourist attractions, to fund their operations. And it's the best kind of tourism to see the elephants. So I don't have problems that they have tourists.
Lek has saved a LOT of elephants, many disabled and old ones too: her park is already full, maybe has too many: they need more land. The HERD South Africa did its biggest rescue when they rescued the herd from Zimbabwe which would otherwise have been killed. After that they've rescured half a dozen orphans, which frankly isn't many. They have 16 elephants, but already cannot have more. Either the country's government or the nature park (I don't know which) has told them that the habitat cannot have more. Except in case of rescuing an orphan, which seems to happen rarely. The herd has several cows in perfect age to get babies, but they can't and are in birth control. That's kind of abusing those elephants' rights for natural and best life, I think.
HERD's manager did say that they have thought releasing some of the bulls
But neither of those organizations currently operate as their purpose to increase wild elephant numbers. And I don't know if they could, either.
Well, maybe not THE best kind of elephant tourism, nature safaris would be even better, but Jabulani herd is now almost as free as a wild herd: birth control is their biggest issue.
Come on everybody, let's go for a mud bath with Sheldrick ellies🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈😍🤗🙏
❤
Are the pinkish ones Albino??? ❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘
dirt
@@nammoo89 thank you 🙏🏾
No. None are. Not sure what you mean? I’m happy to try to help…
The red colour on the 3 orphans that have moved from the nursery is the colour of the red mud or dust that they cover their skin with to protect it from the sun and insects.
❤💯❤💯❤💯❤💯🐘🐘🐘🐘😚😘😚
Police force please take the herd of elephants to the police station properly excellent
