    There's a reason why Noctua gets SO MUCH RESPECT from tech reviewers. They don't mess around. They don't do bullshit marketing. They make extremely high quality products, with excellent warranties, and excellent customer service. They are an honest company, with a very, very unusually high level of integrity. They take pride in making the best products for their customers, and in giving them good customer service and support. They will even provide some degree of customer service and support for products which are PAST their warranties. Noctua fans are often pretty expensive, but chances are that they will actually eventually end up saving you money because of how ridiculously long they last, but they also move more air and make less noise, and even use less power as well. It took me a long time to realize that Noctua stuff is totally worth the price. It started with a CPU cooler that I bought at a discounted price, but today, my PC has four Noctua case fans in it, and I always recommend Noctua to people whenever I'm helping them to put together a PC. That's not to say that there aren't some other good case fan brands or cooler brands, but Noctua keeps ending up being the best option whenever I try to look into what the best fan for a given job is.
    I have been using an NH-L12 for the past 8 years or so, and after upgrading from an AM3, to an AM4 motherboard, I found out that I could get a FREE mounting adapter upgrade kit sent to me for no charge at all, directly from Germany to Canada, and it was already past its 6 year warranty at this point in time. It's about 9 years old now, and the same fans are running as good as the day I got it. Noctua still updates information for their older model coolers that are past warranty, such as lists which give you a good idea of how good of a job your old cooler will do at cooling a given modern CPU.
    Personally, I don't tend to go for high-end CPUs, so my cooler has been overkill for all of the AM4 CPUs I've had so far, but that just means that it's been extra quiet :)

    Noctua are the definition of doing things properly. Designing for quality and not disposability. An old Engineering teacher I once had said it best; "The proper mentality is that there is no such thing as "overengineered"; there is doing it correctly, and there is everything else.".

    • @veduci22
      @veduci22 Рік тому +1

      But doing things properly is in this case just focusing on really unimportant stuff that really doesn't matters in the grand scheme of things... Noctua is basically marketing for PC hardware enthusiasts who are equivalent of audiophiles while sane people just buy Arctic or other brands (if they need a fan besides the stock case fans) and get 95% of performance for fraction of price... And yes, I'm one of those idiots who spend 30+$ for a fan just because I want the best stuff but I know being hardware enthusiast means you do a lot of irrational decisions when it comes to consumer spending and marketing people in companies like Noctua really know how to sell overpriced stuff to us.

    • @SoulDragonWithFlow
      @SoulDragonWithFlow Рік тому +8

      @@veduci22 And that exact mentality of people wanting everything to be as cheap as possible NOW is exactly how we ended up with phones you can't change the batteries in, TVs filled with bloatware/spyware, and white-goods such as washing machines that last 3 years, maybe 5 if we are lucky. It isnt technical limitations. It's not even cost restraints. It's planned obsolescence because charging you for a whole new machine is better for their bottom line than letting you change a $15 part on a $500 piece of hardware. I'd rather buy once and buy well. It's not overpriced if it does the job better and lasts 3x longer than anything else. Example: I bought a cutthroat razor a few years ago after Gillette released a certain now-infamous ad. The razor was 2.5x more expensive than its disposable counterparts (NOT including replacement blades). A $30 razor, a $20 polishing stone + 30 mins online learning how to sharpen the thing and I have saved that money back a 10-fold in the years since. I never have to buy a razor again and it does the job better than anything else I've used. It's better for my shave, better for my bank account, and better for the planet. Engineers should run the world.

    I bought the Be Quiet Silent Wings Pro 4 fans for my PC because of high performance, sleek look (and at the time, they had more in stock), but let's be honest, only a fool would deny Noctua's performance. NH-D15 didn't become a decade's benchmark for air coolers for no reason. I can't help but remember what's probably the best and shortest review of Noctua products: "The fact that they're so ugly and people still buy them, that's how you know they're really good."

    Bought Noctua D14 in late 2009. It has been running 24/7 since then. Probably the best purchase of my life. Because it has kept my CPU cooler now close to 5000 days 120k hours, if the lower temps dropped power consumption even 1W on average it's 120KWh. And I would assume it has done much more than that. Also the X58 board is alive after running this whole time. First as my main rig and then as my server. Cool air running over VRM and RAM certainly helps.

I think it's that they're very committed to the 25mm thick standard because their goal is to work toward the best all-rounder 25mm thick fan that most people can use without issues. One area that hasn’t been explored yet is attempting to match the fin density with the pressure/airflow characteristics of the fan across the entire 2-D cross-section of the fan. We know the airflow and pressure is highest at the perimeter of the fan and lowest at the center. While the idea of a dead zone may be outdated, the concept of lower airflow in that area is still valid. Having higher density of fins at the edges of the cooler and lower density of fins where the center of the fan is would result in more heat being dumped - and subsequently dissipated - exactly where the fan is most capable of dealing with that heat.
    The other thing they could do as others have mentioned is increase the depth of the fans beyond 25mm. While there are potential clearance issues with radiators and case fans that would limit the desirability of thicker fans, there’s a ton of room to work with above the motherboard once the fans have cleared the memory sticks. There’s no reason a 50mm thick fan on a tower cooler wouldn’t be just as compatible as a 25mm fan in 99% of cases. And with thicker fans comes lower rpm at the same pressure-volume, and that means quieter operation and less wear on the motor.

Noctua is the only dedicated in house brand of cpu cooling manufacturer that develops a patented liquid crystal polymer technology and the signature color brown isn't on purpose. It's the original color of the polymer itself and adding a color to it greatly alters the original characteristics of the material itself which will affect it's performance and the structural integrity it was known for. Be glad that the Chromax black colored one exist, at the cost of being slightly less performance than the original brown material.

    How much does materials play a role in fan design? I am not a materials engineer, but I have been playing with plastic moulds and I read about and tested some of the amazing ways to increase the strength and/or rigidity of materials. Adding something like 1% graphene (expensive) by weight does wonders for things like breaking and bending strength. Would that have any benefits with PBT that would make it a middle ground compared to something like LCP? What about metal fans? It would place more stress on the engine, but there are loads of fast-moving metal parts made to increadible tolerances all over (and above) the planet, and maybe movint to 140, 160 and 180mm fans exclusively could mean we can increase the motor strength a little bit (quadruple comparing titanium to LCP) without losing tol much fan area.

    I'm sold on the new 140mm fans, pretty much will replace all my 140mm case fans to Noctua once it got released. 😁
    Although, still waiting for Noctua to develop their own AIO solution or better yet a thermosiphon to further improve thermal transfer with their tower coolers.
    That would be something to look forward to 😍

      I don't think it's worth to buy these as case fans when your existing NF-A14s are perfectly fine. These will be most useful on heatsinks and radiators.

      @@panzer3279 I'm still using the stock 140mm fans that came with my case although I'm already using NF-A12x25 on my 360mm AIO. I was contemplating to replace the case fans with NF-A12x25s to appease my OCD. Good thing I saw the Computex 2023 coverage and decided to just wait for the next gen 140mm fans. 😄

    Honestly, Noctua's default color scheme really bothered me for the longest time. Now I'm starting to like it. I feel like if you designed a system to work with the color scheme from the get go, it'd look really cool, like LTTs all Noctua PC. It has an almost nostalgic look, and I appreciate the lack of RGB bullshit.

    Never tested if one 140mm noctua fan did an equivalent or better job than two 120mm regular fans on a double tower cooler ?! If it only get 2-3°C more hot by reduce decibel by a lot it could be a nice thing , plus bigger diameter means potentially cooler vrm's , ram etc...

    The newer processors have done better in some cases with less heatpipes because the heat isn't ending up getting to the outside heatpipes much.
    8 heatpipes is a ton especially is 6mm.
    So I'm wondering how this will manage with that issue.

    • @wyntje83
      @wyntje83 Рік тому

      I bet Noctua has thought about that and tested multiple designs, plus they did mention in the GN interview that they're looking at offset setups for AM5 which is more important to make the most of a set of heatpipes
