Jack, love hearing your ideas! Please show us your next step, drawings, renderings, etc. I can see your ground covers already instead of the pine needles. You're talent is amazing. How will you choose materials, etc.? Would love to hear how budget impacts decision making. Basically, keep us posted on the whole design process if you can. Thank you for taking us along!
Ahh, I've just found your phase 1! Instantly transported to another world - blown away. Cant thank you enough for sharing your work in these locations.
Thanks for bringing us along for your walk through of this property. You're so right on how the woodland backyard is so different from the definite beach front. So nice to have both of these energies at a lake property ... and the White Pine is absolutely stunning.
Cool. I missed my calling, but now in retirement, helping friends and family with their MUCH SMALLER landscaping designs. Thanks for taking us along, love your ideas, how you include and work around what is already there, highlighting it as you work through the design. :)
It indeed takes many years of experience and simply the gift of vision to transform a rough landscape. So, I admire your talent for this, Jack. I always wonder if designers have time to work on their own property. I remember when you allowed us onto your own property to watch you plant up some window boxes with your adorable boys. Do you get a chance to do much landscape work on your property on Mackinac? I would love to see more of that as well as more of your solo treks through the woods, your specialty meals, your piano playing, etc. Those intimate moments where you show your intimate relationship with nature are particularly nice. But I enjoy everything you present.
I had to immediately look on my map to see where Torch Lake was in Michigan. What a beautiful area. You will do an amazing job designing this property. Good luck on this exciting project.
Ok I looked through the comments and no one was nearly excited as I am to see this so I'll try to restrain myself OH MY GOD I'M SO GLAD TO SEE THIS!!! THIS IS GONNA BE SO GOOD!! LOVED SEEING YOUR MIND AT WORK!! Haha! And boy what a beautiful Beautiful view with those waves coming in 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hi Jack, Wow....this I have to see! I wouldn't know where to begin! Thanks for taking us along from the very beginning. I just love watching you work your magic!!! Have an awesome day and I look forward to the next one! :)
I want to do what you do...!!! (Dream job!) Thanks for taking us along on the site mapping of this awesome property! LOVE the plan so far!! You rock.... & I wanna meet you- I'm designing & gardening my own little Adirondack "woodland nook"..... s l o w l y .... over time. 😊 I had BAD deer devastation this year.... hope you talk about what deer DON'T eat! 💚
I'm so excited to see the progress if any, has the project started? Absolutely beautiful lake house with beach area and my favorite pines - my idea of heaven. Whisked me away before I start my work day here in North Wales, UK. Thank you - your work and the area really makes my day!
I'm excited to see the process. I have some utility boxes and a few other things I would like to cover up so I'm curious what you decide to do in those areas and hopefully it will give me some ideas for my property. Thank you
Love to see you starting from the very beginning of a project to see how your mind works on what a property can become. Thanks for sharing this with us. Your projects always turn out so natural and beautiful, like nature developed them. You are awesome !!!
This is so exciting Jack. Thanks for taking us along. Makes me relook at my homestead to see how I can tweak things to make it that much better. Inspiration!
This was great to watch. I am sure we only heard a very small portion of your ideas. You are truly a master at this. I am very much looking forward to watching this evolve into a beautiful landscape.
That was great to see how you think thru a project. If you had time would be fun to see how you work on a project with a landscape program. Maybe even one you’d recommend to use.
In addition to all the suggestions you made, I think the house could benefit from a restaining/painting and the addition of a contrasting accent color on doors/windows etc.
I love this! It's going to be so cool to see how you work in the beginning to the finished product... Do you normally take notes or do you just remember it all? 😄
For this one, the video is my notes! But, yes, usually I take notes, or walk and talk and record my voice- then I have that to remind me when I review photos and videos~~~
@@JackBarnwellDesign Oh yeah, that makes since... Video is probably better than notes never you can actually see the spaces again 👍 Love your work and can't wait to see what you come up with for this property!
Thank you Jack for taking us along. I love hearing your thought process, it just re-enforces some of the same thought I have when doing my own place. Like you I love the trees, especially that beautiful old historic white pine, makes a great setting comfortable. Plus the trees have a cooling effect when it is hot. Beautiful color there right now. Can't wait to see what you have decided to do.
I recently moved into a new home. And you sharing your thought process is fantastic! At our old home we would just find a plant, buy it, then find somewhere to fit it in. No rhyme or reason. This time I want to plan it all out 1st. You give me things to think about. I so appreciate your knowledge and expertise. Thank you Jack.
Hi Jack! Just curious, have you ever been to Mackinac’s neighbor island - Bois Blanc? Love the videos keep it up! 😎 Would love to have someone like you on ‘Bob-lo’
My backyard is small full of gigantic roots of the neighbors trees (6) near my fence. I could not even plan a weed the soil it’s like a solid rock.I am so sad and don’t know what to do to make it cozy. I wish I could have more yard or the neighbor trees far away from my fence. The leaves fall all year around in my side. It’s the impossible garden.
How does one know when a tree is planted too close to a house? I have a 30+ year old copper beech by my entryway which I've noticed the roots lifting the sidewalk and inspecting the situation, further measuring its trunk only 5' away from the cement foundation. I had it trimmed just two years ago an the arborist didn't say anything negative about its placement. I think it needs to be taken out. If so, is there a better time of year to do so? I would appreciate your input, if you are willing. I have two professionals that had agreed with my perspective, but really don't want to unless totally necessary. I value your insight...
It likely is too close- A copper beech eventually wants to get much larger, and before it does foundation damage, unfortunately, it is likely the right call….

HOW EXCITING to see the untouched area before you create your design! I love this process. Thank you for taking us along!

She needs to just let you do you. She won't regret it. It's going to be stunning.
I can’t wait to see what mr Magic hands Jack does to that new space. Winter better get out of his way quickly!
What a treat for us! Please keep us in the loop on your plans and what is decided in the plan! Thanks!
So interesting to hear you ‘thinking out loud’

Wow - beautiful as is but with so much more potential... can't wait to see Jack's plans come to fruition 🙂
Hope the homeowners accept your proposal for the bench so they can spend time looking at the white pine and also the lake. Great idea.

Looking forward to this make-over! Interesting to see your initial thought processes. I know what you're capable of!

I really excited to see how this property evoles. It's so simple and cottage woodland, and I just know you will bring out the loveliness of the area.
Ohhhhh can’t wait to see what you are going to do!!!
Can’t wait to see you design this area! I’m really interested in plant choice for under the trees, as I have a similar area I’m trying to fill. 😊

Exciting project. Have been round torch lake. It is a beautiful area. Hope to see how this project goes.
This space is beautiful! Your plan to swing walkway out around the white pine was exactly what I said and then you said it. Lol
This is so exciting Jack. Thanks for taking us along. Makes me relook at my homestead to see how I can tweak things to make it that much better. Inspiration!

Thank you! How fun! Is it possible that you could film a small bit of your computer work as you lay things out?
Neat to see this process right from the beginning. Is there an update video to this?
There will be soon- we are about to dive into that one….
