Another great video! Science shows the drink temperatures to be irrelevant as both hot and cold have very slight benefits. So small it’s not even worth worrying about.
I heard you that there is a true to it. Rain ☔️ causes all kind of bacterias 🦠 on the ground mix up with the air for us to breathe. If not true let me know.
I would say that you would only see the negatives to driking a cold drink in the extremes. If you have heat stroke, drinking ice water will fool your body into thinking it is cooler than it actually is, so stop it working to cool you. It would be the equivalent of giving someone with hypothermia a hot drink, which would put them in a coma!
@@ItsMe_Philippines maybe its like cooling down too fast. Building barbed wire fences in Texas in summer when i was a kid - when you get really hot, then drink too much cold water - you can make yourself sick - if you cool down too much too fast. its a little like a body "brain freeze" headache" - but much worse.
Yes! Totally been there myself. Chugged a lot of super cold Gatorade and was throwing it all back up about a minute later. I’ve seen others do this on my son’s soccer team as well.
Great post Corey and Rachel! I can attest to how loving, caring, giving, and friendly the Filipino people are. My wife is Filipino and we went to 3 family Christmas gatherings. At each one of those parties, I was the only Caucasian, and ALL of her friends and family were so loving and caring. I was never without food, drinks, or good conversation. It truly made for a special holiday season. We are considering moving to the P.I. when I retire in 1.5 years. The more time I spend with my Filipino family, the easier the decision is getting. Wishing you both great health and happiness in the new year! 🙏 🇵🇭🇺🇸
@ We're not sure - yet. We are going to visit Palawan with some of her family this May. It's my wife's first trip back home in 40 years. We'd have to plan another trip to explore.
Rachel, you brought a smile to my face with your very cute song of Merry Christmas and then you brought tears to my eyes with your own tears flowing. What an amazing tender heart you have Rachel and I know your husband falls in love with you even more when your soft side comes out. This video was very well done by both of you. Thank you!
Another great video Corey and Rochelle! You guys set so many wonderful examples from call cultural appreciation to your love of each other ❤ best intro ever! 😂😂
Another great video. I only got to spend a week in Bohol but I saw all the kindness there. My fiancé would not pass a child asking for a peso. I asked her, don't you think that enables them. Her response was beautiful, she said yes, it enable them to live so they too can do it some day. Seeing the poor there, and how hard they work and all they do and their kindness always. I too and looking to move to offer help where I can.. Maybe bring some in to work at the woodshop I plan to have there. But giving to those people, that try so hard with such limited resources is so heart warming.., Cry young lady, we cry with you.
Cory I've been searching for my Filipina for years. I've finally found one that has a heart similar to "Rachelle.." Back in 2019, we went downtown Guagua Pampanga. My friends wanted me to try some of the street foods. There, there was this guy that started following us around. Where I'm from, you have to keep an eye on people like that. Soon, after trying several dishes, and not liking most of them, I had lots of uneaten items on the table and that's when he made his move. Dude, I thought it was time for battle. LMAO!! He just wanted the leftovers and was happy to have them. I was happy to give them to him. Lord knows I didn't want any trouble. My friends speak Tagalog and to tell my girl I love her, it's mahal kita and of course I always sat thank you, salamat. Oh, and I also do the hand to the forehead thing. I love showing respect
My Filipina wife and I have been happily married for 24 years and can relate to all the things you both have mentioned. She is from the Occidental side of Negros, but the customs and traditions you describe are very much the same, as they are throughout the Philippines. Some of the folk traditions seem to be based less on Western science, but they undoubtedly came about from generations of observations, and who am I to argue with customs and traditions formed over centuries in the tropics. Rachel's emotions when talking about the widespread lack of basic sustenance and other provisions, the things many of us take for granted, was moving. What is heartwarming beyond words is the hospitality and joy most Filipinos exhibit whenever we are in their presence. We are living in the US now but planning to build a permanent home in the Visayas in the coming years. Happy New Year to you and your family.
The Philippines culture gets a big thumbs up from me. Whenever we get off the Ferry in Bohol, I automatically start smiling for no reason. Some of things in the culture are quirky to me as Westerner, however, I have never come across a more grateful, happy and respectful culture. If you are set in your ways and resistant to change, you will struggle living there. Great Video and Happy New Year to you both
Great work you 2🎉 . Being raised in southern Alabama I can understand much of the cold 💦 drinks and rain thing. It’s about cooling off to quick and then you get a chest cold . I was in the Philippines a couple weeks earlier this year , and Thailand for 6 weeks , I totally changed my outlook. I became much calmer , and smiled all the time , even lowered my blood pressure.❤ . Keep up the good work.
Getting too cold too quick does lower your immune system so I understand that. However, when it’s never below 80° here the rain is not going to actually chill you lol. But to them the actual rain gives you a virus somehow lol
Interesting differences, I’ve been to tropical 🌴 humid places, & I love when it rains, cools me off. However, I see people from those climates are acclimated to that weather, so rain is more uncomfortable to them. My Mom spent 5 weeks in hospital then rehab and the warmest & kindest physical therapists & nursing staff were all Philippino’s. Raquel is so sweet. There r so many disadvantaged people everywhere, it’s always right to help others. Great video!!
Happy new year Brother , yes people in the Philippines are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, my first personal interactions with the people and the culture was on camiquin island, that experience led me to come back several times and now is leading me to my countdown to leaving to get there ( just tied up in red tape) . There is always room for improvement and the Philippines is what you make it. Respect the people and the culture but make sure you have clear boundaries so no one will take advantage of you and you’ll be fine . Thanks Rachel for the video, keep it up you’re doing amazing work! 👍👍
I have learned so much about the Philippine culture with all of my experiences thus far as it is a never ending eye opener, but without a doubt I have made the best life long friends, including Corey & Rachel(Ray-chel) 😂, which the same cannot be said back home in the USA. Good video, and there’s a huge heart inside of your pretty-little Lady Sir, God bless her; another custom I think wasn’t mentioned (which I was reminded of while watching a Filipino wedding video) is that of separating kids from adults during big family gatherings, or parties, kids are placed in another room where they can mingle, since is thought that children shouldn’t be exposed to adult matters or behaviors till they come of age, many Latin communities practice this too. Some of what you’ve mention come from the old Spanish/ Spain traditions e.g. “Noche Buena” a part of Catholic Christmas Celebrations also practice in Catholic Latin countries around the world. Thank you for reminding us that there are still places where traditions, respect of others specially the elders and care of one’s neighbors is still in practice today. Be well and please keep us informed in 2025 too, thanks for posting!

Great video guys! More people need to understand the culture before moving to the Philippines. I’ve been married to one for 30+ years lol so I get it. I just need to get my butt there ASAP. Which should be May this year. Just go with the flow bro.😅 ✌🏻
@ well my wife is from Pasay City Manila. Family close. We’ll spend 3 to 6 months in the city searching for a happy place. I like Mindoro Island, Puerto Galleria is an option. If I had my own choice, Bohol. The first year will be exploratory.
Rachel is not only pretty, but has a heart of gold! Corey is also kind, because he concurs with her, whereas some men would stop their wives from spending their money on other people (or vice versa, women stopping their husbands).
@ItsMe_Philippines Corey, I live in Canada. We get hot humid summers like Chicago. It is common knowledge here that a hot drink will make you swet on a hot day and the swet cools your body temp. No need for studies. This has been a known fact here forever !
@@randyhuke3773 I don't have a dog in the fight, but that's an old wive's tale with zero basis in fact. I had a European wife and had to deal with a lot of similar misconceptions.
The thing with the cold vs warm water is the thing when u drink cold water u cool off the body and the body will start too heat up the body. U really should drink like close to body temperature drinks. But i also love a cold drink when its hot.
The drink temperature can have “slight” benefits depending on the temperature of your body and environment. However, what I said was “it’s not bad for you or going to kill you” and that’s a fact.

Here’s idea for future video..show Rachel going out into the province buying something small like food or a toy for a Filipino or Filipina that is a stranger to her..would make for great content..right Rachel ?…..Of course!…..thanks guys, take care..
You can adapt to a certain degree, you need to and be willing. However, you can respect even though some things you don't like. For me, I would keep my distance from toxic boundary stomping relatives/friends. Respect is a two way exchange.
Just got back from the Philippines visiting my girlfriend for the first time. She freaked out when she saw me outside in the rain, never allowed to drink cold water, and not allowed to use a fan if I was sweating. I promised her I wouldn't get sick from doing any of these things, but she wouldn't except it. So I just went along with the hogwash craziness. 😅 I fell in love with the philipino people and their kind, gentle, and positive attitudes. 😊
Even now in the middle of winter I always add ice to my drinks. When it's 110 degrees outside I always enjoy an ice-cold drink. Maybe that is what is wrong with me. Ann is my wife of 46 years. She has become very confused lately and have spent two weekends in the hospital this December. I need to take a hot shower later. ha ha ha stay well and dry.
Another fun and informative video. There is some research (and logical reasons) that show drinking things at room temperature is better for the gut.I live in Mexico and most Mexicans in my part of the country (very hot part) use the same logic of not changing the temperature of the gut and alter the organisms in your digestive system. I have gone to the "room temperature side" and I find that I can drink more water - and that is always a good thing. I also find many things (after owning a home here for 28 years), in the culture very strange, but, it is what it is. In general I think it is a better way of life and I am kind of sure you feel the same about your adopted country.
Thanks guys, food for thought. I mod for some channels and it annoys me when westerners try to tell locals how to do their jobs, or cook etc. with zero knowledge of local culture.
To explain the cold water being an absolute no-no in a hot temperature - if you've been working rigidly outside in a very hot weather and you suddenly introduce cold/icy water to your body, your body's homeostasis suddenly gets disrupted. Might not really cause anything instant but overtime it will cause some sort of stress in your body.
Regarding the “bless” thing. Do you wait for the elder to hold their hand out to you, or do you reach toward them and pull their hand toward your forehead?
Yes, I most certainly do and she will be the first person to admit to that. And I don’t believe 99% of the people could handle the challenge that I have accepted.
biggest shock for me, every second day there is a festival or party and you just go to every house and eat whatever they have put out for everyone, even if you do not know the family, second biggest shock, how much a little 4'10 pinay can eat haha, must say, I was very afraid
drinking cold water makes your body work harder in maintaining a 98.6 body temp. Where as drinking warm or hot water does not. So that's one reason people don't like to drink cold water in hot weather cause their body has to working harder in the heat and requires more energy.
Like I was saying the video, it’s not “bad for you or going to Kill You“. But yes, both temperature drink/water can have slight benefits based on your environment and body temperature. However, most fitness people and doctors suggest the cold water because your body does work harder to warm it up, hence you burn more calories just by drinking the cold water.
15:00 - It's mostly from life experience. If you grew up here, you _WILL_ get that association between getting rained on and getting sick. It happens often enough that "correlation" is often confused with "causation". The difference between those 2 words really doesn't matter to the locals. It's the fact that you will "likely" get sick that matters.
@@ItsMe_Philippines I honestly don't know. I get sick when it's not raining, but also when it rains. But more often during the rainy season. I don't run when it rains though, a little bit feels good, but getting drenched is more of an inconvenience.
My guess is that during rainy season we get less sun, so we make less Vit D so immunity go down a notch. Kinda similar to flu season in the west. Summer is less colds and less flu.
Pack of vitamin D during the rainy season here does make perfect sense. I actually take a vitamin D supplement just during the rainy season because of that. So I haven’t noticed any issue because I’m supplementing in what I’m missing. But I would assume that none of the locals are actually doing that.
My girlfriend was disappointed that I didn’t take pictures of my family’s Christmas for her. I thought about it, but I didn’t want to make her feel bad about the amount of food we had, and number of gifts we gave/got. I didn’t tell her that of course. I just said I forgot.

As a little lady you have a very BIG HEART Sister, your videos are always good and informative you two. And they put a smile on my face. Thank you, Brother and Sister, for sharing. Have a good morning...
Thank you so much, always appreciate your positive feedback!
Nice video guys. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God Bless.
Thank you and happy new year 🎊🎈🎆
Very uplifting and positive thoughts I love that video. It breaks my heart this types of situations over is very similar to the Philippines
Thank you and I’m sorry to hear that
Bless your heart Rachel bless your heart.
Thank you
Great video guys! More people need to understand the culture before moving to the Philippines. I’ve been married to one for 30+ years lol so I get it. I just need to get my butt there ASAP. Which should be May this year. Just go with the flow bro.😅 ✌🏻
More I get on board things the more relaxed I am! What island are you heading to?
@ well my wife is from Pasay City Manila. Family close. We’ll spend 3 to 6 months in the city searching for a happy place. I like Mindoro Island, Puerto Galleria is an option. If I had my own choice, Bohol. The first year will be exploratory.
Your Wife would be impossible to argue with, she's a beautiful young lady inside and out. You guy's have a Great New Year.
Well I don't know about that lol but I do pick and choose my battle wisely!
Wow Tracy is great singer 👩🎤 🎤 🎶 😊
True 😂
Great video Cory! I hope to meet up with you guys in the Philippines one day!
(BTW - I still have your yellow tool box back in Maine).
Enjoy it!
I'm amazed at the life you built for yourself in the Philippines!
NEVER A BORING DAY! right?
Rachel is not only pretty, but has a heart of gold! Corey is also kind, because he concurs with her, whereas some men would stop their wives from spending their money on other people (or vice versa, women stopping their husbands).
You can never go poor by giving to others!
Rachel is correct. Warm water is healthier. Hot drinks have a cooling effect on your metabolism.
This is not true in these hot temperatures or leave the medical studies backing it up.
@@jcalsup7144 Nope ! It works.
Merry Christmas to you both happy new year
Merry Christmas
happy new year Corey and Rachel. have a blessed new year
Happy new year and thank you

Thank you 😊
Hello Cory and Rachelle, Thank you for your knowledge. I am looking forward to moving to the Philippines.
Enjoy!
Here’s idea for future video..show Rachel going out into the province buying something small like food or a toy for a Filipino or Filipina that is a stranger to her..would make for great content..right Rachel ?…..Of course!…..thanks guys, take care..
I’ll see if that’s possible to do. Tough laws regarding “donating” on UA-cam. I’ll check though
You can adapt to a certain degree, you need to and be willing. However, you can respect even though some things you don't like. For me, I would keep my distance from toxic boundary stomping relatives/friends. Respect is a two way exchange.
Very well said and agree 👍🏻
Adapting to the culture of the country your in is important. Too many expect the same things in a foreign country as they get in their home country
Very true
Cannot help from being compassionate when I’m there makes me feel good to give also.
You cannot go poor by giving to others
Just got back from the Philippines visiting my girlfriend for the first time. She freaked out when she saw me outside in the rain, never allowed to drink cold water, and not allowed to use a fan if I was sweating. I promised her I wouldn't get sick from doing any of these things, but she wouldn't except it. So I just went along with the hogwash craziness. 😅 I fell in love with the philipino people and their kind, gentle, and positive attitudes. 😊
I’m glad you enjoyed your trip and managed to survive lol
This video makes me cry the same way it brings back memories 😢
😕
Even now in the middle of winter I always add ice to my drinks. When it's 110 degrees outside I always enjoy an ice-cold drink. Maybe that is what is wrong with me. Ann is my wife of 46 years. She has become very confused lately and have spent two weekends in the hospital this December. I need to take a hot shower later. ha ha ha stay well and dry.
lol interesting
Happy new year to you..... you two ......🎉
Happy New Year 🎈🎊
Another fun and informative video.
There are benefits to both based on the temperature, however, like I said "One is not going to kill you and it's not by definition bad for you".
great vid thanks for sharing nice insight
Thank you
@ you’re welcome
HAPPY XMAS NEW YEAR ❤
ITS ALL GOOD GUYS
and
New Hair …👍
It’s Benjamin Button / you look younger every month 😂
Happy new year and thank you
Very touching video 😢…Hey Cory I see the stairway in the background….Are there bedrooms up there? Just curious…beautiful house…Happy New Year 🎉
Yes that's our bed room 25x25ft with bathroom and patio.
Thanks guys, food for thought. I mod for some channels and it annoys me when westerners try to tell locals how to do their jobs, or cook etc. with zero knowledge of local culture.
Well said!
Hi guys, I lived in the Philippines for awhile and now live in Thailand. The one thing I miss about the Philippines is The English speaking.
That does make it easy here
LOL Why make us all cry for the holidays!!! LOL I love you both and wish you both a Happy New Year!!
I'm glad you enjoy our videos!
Can you add Medical studies and scientific research to back this up?
Thk you for explaining
Happy to help!
Regarding the “bless” thing. Do you wait for the elder to hold their hand out to you, or do you reach toward them and pull their hand toward your forehead?
I always reach down and take it because they will never assume.
My Filipina does the rain thing and the hot water thing. Also, an umbrella to protect her from the evil sun.
Hahahahaha we must avoid that vitamin D
Cory, you have your hands full don't you? But Rachel is the person everyone wishes they were married to.
Yes, I most certainly do and she will be the first person to admit to that. And I don’t believe 99% of the people could handle the challenge that I have accepted.
you both hit gold, arhhh
Thank you!
When a woman gets loud when disagreeing, even she knows she's wrong. That "cold water bad" had me rolling.
lol I just smile and laugh inside
Hey guy's happy New year's.
Happy new year!
biggest shock for me, every second day there is a festival or party and you just go to every house and eat whatever they have put out for everyone, even if you do not know the family, second biggest shock, how much a little 4'10 pinay can eat haha, must say, I was very afraid
lol great points
Culture yes... But.... But I can not eat Balut. I like my Duck Breaded and deep fried. Or Scrambled with cheese.
Same here
drinking cold water makes your body work harder in maintaining a 98.6 body temp.
That’s really beautiful ❤
Thank you 😊
15:00 - It's mostly from life experience. If you grew up here, you _WILL_ get that association between getting rained on and getting sick. It happens often enough that "correlation" is often confused with "causation". The difference between those 2 words really doesn't matter to the locals. It's the fact that you will "likely" get sick that matters.
So what exactly makes you sick from the rainwater? Honest question.
@@ItsMe_Philippines
I honestly don't know.
Yes, it is a touchy subject.
Damn Corry, Rachel,Raquel, and Tracey are adorable! Congrats to you.😂
lol thank you
My wifes family all yell at each other. lol
lol
Hair looks good bro
Thanks bro
Corey just go with it man just go with it. 😊
