A lot of people who think this isn’t hilarious aren’t getting the point. This was posted after a mass shooting targeting Asian Americans. Bowen wanted to use his platform to raise awareness to a serious issue with respect whilst staying true to his comedic background and I think he did an admirable job. This was a good balance of heartfelt with a touch of comedy. If you don’t like the skit, you should be more aware. If you look at the comments section, it’s filled with not just Asians but other minorities relating and extending their support.
The jokes weren’t funny. Most had no real punchline which is why the audience didn’t even laugh. His delivery was terrible, but even if you have good delivery the jokes need to be funny. Use his platform? Great, but still be funny

The best Sailor type show was great. I can't remember the name, but it's a few burly dudes who do the entire transformation sequence, and ends up just being burly dudes in the skimpy sailor costumes. It's too funny to be gross. Just barely.
Sure, if you watched the uncut and uncensored version fron Japan. The American dub that aired in syndication and Cartoon Network (DiC and Cloverway dubs; Viz Media version on Hulu is uncut) is not progressive, given that it changed a gay male enemy into a woman, turned a lesbian couple into cousins with an unfortunate incestuous attraction to each other, and didn't even bother to show the last season because of the transgendered Sailor Scouts (though that was because the creator was afraid that less tolerant countries would censor it).
Everyone knows that Neptune across the street, poor girl... She's so sweet but just can't seem to find a man. At least she isn't alone; she's always with her roommate Uranus. Why, at this point, they almost seem like family...

I appreciate that SNL took a little time to address this. It was illuminating and depressing how many people have had the attitude of "how dare the Orientals speak out, they're not supposed to complain like other minorities". Asians have quietly tolerated incredible racism basically nonstop since the Chinese Exclusion Act through SCOTUS opinions on Japanese internment just last year. Hopefully recent events will finally get some people to recognize that.
And it's practically considered nearly acceptable at times in contrast to how other minorities are treated! Always with some Kung Fu references or the Asian kid being made to be the weirdo in any given group (Big Bang Theory, That 70s Show, etc) not to mention the whole college situation in terms of acceptance into various schools.

Sounds like you have an amazing mom! Nail technicians work so hard, often putting in 10+ hour days, hunched over, breathing fumes... They’re definitely underappreciated, especially in places like NYC where-despite the high costs of living-manicures are relatively cheap (less than $15 manicures are unheard of in other states I’ve lived in). I can only imagine how little of it goes to the technicians. Anyway, kudos to your mom for her sacrifices to keep us pretty 💅

Sailor Moon was pretty progressive. Not only the "cousins" but also the Sailor Stars, men who transformed into female soldiers
The best Sailor type show was great. I can't remember the name, but it's a few burly dudes who do the entire transformation sequence, and ends up just being burly dudes in the skimpy sailor costumes. It's too funny to be gross. Just barely.

I grew up with that show. Its cool to Look back on the late 90s-early 2000s anime because many of them were ahead of their time in that sense.
Sure, if you watched the uncut and uncensored version fron Japan. The American dub that aired in syndication and Cartoon Network (DiC and Cloverway dubs; Viz Media version on Hulu is uncut) is not progressive, given that it changed a gay male enemy into a woman, turned a lesbian couple into cousins with an unfortunate incestuous attraction to each other, and didn't even bother to show the last season because of the transgendered Sailor Scouts (though that was because the creator was afraid that less tolerant countries would censor it).

I feel like this dude had kind of a slow start when he joined the show, but he seems to steal every scene he is in now. And I really appreciate that he doesn't shy away from being gay. It seems like most of his characters, if not all of them, stay true to who he is as a person. Yet, he also doesn't lean too heavy on gay stereotypes.
This is the worst weekend update segment in the history of SNL. No, i dont think its Bowens fault, but he certainly didnt do anything funny to help. If he wrote this then he needs to go. This isnt funny at all. I can see if someone else wrote it and tried to pass the buck to him. But unfortunately i dont think thats the case.

I appreciate that SNL took a little time to address this. It was illuminating and depressing how many people have had the attitude of "how dare the Orientals speak out, they're not supposed to complain like other minorities". Asians have quietly tolerated incredible racism basically nonstop since the Chinese Exclusion Act through SCOTUS opinions on Japanese internment just last year. Hopefully recent events will finally get some people to recognize that.
And it's practically considered nearly acceptable at times in contrast to how other minorities are treated! Always with some Kung Fu references or the Asian kid being made to be the weirdo in any given group (Big Bang Theory, That 70s Show, etc) not to mention the whole college situation in terms of acceptance into various schools.
