  • As a follow up to our popular AA Battery Magnet Car video, we test a few not-so-common battery types to see if we can make a "car".

Have demoed that "magnet motor" to several people on the stainless table tops we use at werk. The 1.5v batteries get pretty warm if used for a while. Never tried a Lithium 18650 cell battery but I have seen 6 cell+ Lithium's catch fire on an overpowered R/C Airplane that pulled too much current for too long. It's Amazing how long a Balsa & Plywood R/C Plane will fly when it's on fire. 😳 We keep buckets of sand ready in case of a Lithium fire at our R/C Model flying field. It's required if we want to stay a "Sanctioned" flying field from our Insurance provider. Lithium fires can't be put out w/ an A, C, C or D type Fire Extinguisher, but dumping sand on an overly charged/discharged Lithium Pack that's gone into "thermal runaway" will contain this type of fire. Yea, I would say to use Caution w/ using Lithium's for this type of motor demo because your providing a Direct Short to that 18650 . . . . what could go wrong ?

What was the voltage on the batteries after running for a few hours?
