Never knew anything about Flamingoland until my 840 Coastliner bus went past it last Saturday en route from Leeds to Whitby. For the rest of the summer the maximum single fare for the entire journey (including from Leeds, York or Whitby to Flamingoland) is £2. That makes it a real bargain to reach it, with mostly an hourly service from Leeds to Pickering.
Cheers Will for the update on the bus route, I once took a Yorkshire rider Leeds to Brid on a Monday, it was ok BUT it doubled up as a school bus for part journey, NOT good 🧐 I'm retired now with a pensioner bus pass so it would be free for me I guess 😎. Cheers DougT

The zoo came first ( flamingo park zoo it was called then) with just a few rides and fairground amusements. The ride side of things has extended gradually and has never attempted to be a theme park as such- there is no particular theme. It’s a fairground with big permanent rides. There’s also a campsite ( still there as far as I know) with direct access to the amusement park.
My one and only visit to the park was over 30 years ago! eeek! I think i was about 14/15.
I didn't recognise anything except the pirate ship. We also stayed in a static caravan with the direct access like you say. Vague memories of the zoo.
Laughed way to much at the Ronnie pickerin bit 😂
Love Flamingo Land , reminds me of many a holiday to Scarborough when the kids were younger.

Better you than me, Darren. I suffer from acrophobia and motion sickness, so I cannot ride coasters or fast spinny rides. It was fun watching you fellows enjoying your day, though.
We moved to Bridlington for a year (I am from Blackpool, husband Bradford). We went here for our daughter’s 2nd birthday. Not seen it in 13 years! Thankyou for taking me back!

Can't beat a quiet day at a theme park. Pity Velocity wasn't running, as thats my favourite ride there. I agree about what you said regarding the lack of theming at Flamingoland. It looks like a bit of a funfair in areas.

We went to Flamingo Land most years and stayed in our caravan for a week. The zoo had a monkey that used to hang from his cage and pee on people or throw number 2s out into the crowed. 🤣😂

Love your channel and the videos exploring abandoned Yorkshire places. Had an idea for your next one - the old railway tunnels under Scarborough from the 1800s!
Those lost tunnels must be filled with history. Your viewers would go mad to explore them with you. You’ve tackled other great Scarborough spots, so the tunnels seem perfect next. Ever thought of checking them out?

Great stuff Darren, nice to see you out and about with some of the other UA-camrs I follow! Flamingo Land is my local park I guess, since I live on Tyneside, like Mark actually, maybe one day I could cadge a lift off him down there, since I've not rode "Sik" yet!
"Hero" should be razed to the ground - an horrendous machine, I've no idea why people go on it after the first time!
We went to flamingoland last year, we drenched but it was the hottest day of the year

I think my one and only visit was like 1991. So, the only thing i recognised was the old pirate ship. We stayed in a static caravan too. Back then the first gulf war was kicking off so there were (American) military aircraft daily with the occasional dogfight practice overhead. I remember a monorail and four wheeled cycles. Even back then there was a fairly large roller coaster but my favourite part was the zoo, boating area and miniature railway like Blackpool Zoo and Stanley Park.

I got caught out with the chest mount last year, amount of injuries since SIK was installed apparently. Venom isn't a bad drop tower although can't believe you went back to Hero 🤣 Love Andy BTW!

Darren, when and if you make it here to Knott's Berry Farm, we will be in the front seat on Ghostrider. Mumbo Jumbo looks like a blast of a coaster, the first drop looks great. A bad day on a rollercoaster is better than a great day at work. Queston: What was the first roller coaster to use a tubular steel track, no using google. Thanks for posting such a fun watch, wish I was there.
The Matterhorn one at Disneyland wasn't it.
@@AdventureMe This is what's on Wikipedia: In 1959, the Disneyland theme park introduced a new design breakthrough in roller coasters with the Matterhorn Bobsleds. This was the first roller coaster to use a tubular steel track. And today it is the world's oldest operating tubular steel roller coaster. The last time I went to Flamingo Land, which was a really long time ago, it was just some land. With Flamingos. Actually, I'm not even sure about the latter. I remember having ice cream, and walking around on the land, but that's about it.
Sik looks very decent, however I don’t think it can rival the infamous potential death trap rides we used to make in your back yard! 😂 We did well working with skateboards, these days I think we’d have either been using drone cars and VR headsets to have people ride them or be making full VR ones. Between those rides and shifting perfumes made from flowers to the women round our street I think we showed the early signs of entrepreneurship we’d later go into…proper Bo I tell thee! Ha ha

I’d love to see more theme park content on your channel. A lot of UK parks have some rich history, especially Alton Towers which I can’t believe you haven’t already covered! The past and present images and your way of editing would really compliment a video of all the changes to the theme park era of the grounds and you could do a whole series about the gardens and towers ruins
I'm working on it. Don't worry. Merlin are a bit uptight though. That's why I haven't yet.

Almost embarrasing that as a Yorkshireman living only about 40 minutes away I've not been to Flamingoland for yonks; not since my kids were small to be exact and putting it into context, Magnum Force, which was awful, dog rough and the Bullet which was fabulous fun were still operating, as was the completely enclosed coaster (can't remember its name so help me out) so its a very long time ago. great video, thanks again.

I visited Flamingo Park Zoo when it first opened. There were no rides in those days.
SIK was in storage at Hopi Hari in Brazil and Movie Animation Park Studios in Malaysia, so you were correct on both counts Darren

I’ve got some footage of colossus on opening day on my channel. It’s interesting to compare the two rides as they were when first built.
I think a lot of us have been spoiled by the US parks!

It’s good that they insist on a chest harness and check that it’s secure- can’t risk someone getting injured by a falling camera. Better than just banning filming on the rides which would be another option.

Velocity has been closed over a month now. It stalled on the 17th april on our visit and according to the website it never opened 🤣

Have you been to Pleasurewood Hills theme park in Lowestoft. I went there when I was a young kid and living in Norfolk at the time and some of the rides were so amazing.
I haven't since I was a nipper. Need another visit.
Southport Pleasureland has allowed dogs and to take in your own food for the last 16 years

@11:30 Is it better than the Odyssey at Skegness? I know it used to be the tallest SLC in the world. Not sure about that now. Parks all over the world keep throwing up bigger and faster rides. When I went on it was the tallest. At the time it was one of the smoothest SLC I'd been on. It's failings is because it's so tall you don't get much of intense ride. Take Nemesis for example. It's not very high at all but because it's built low into the soundings it gives you a more exhilarating experience.
It is the same with Infusion. When it was at Southport it was built quite low. At Blackpool it's standing on stilts above 3 feet of water that's only there half the time.
Still the tallest SLC. Odyssey is a lot rougher in my opinion. But it has a better layout.
I had to stop watching😅😂. I can’t handle roller coasters or even some regular North Yorkshire roads😊

Ah!! So my Patreon money goes towards having a jolly with your mates. I’m just jealous, my back stops me going on rides like those, so I enjoyed them second hand. Question. Do you prefer the front seats or back seats. I’ve seen riders at BPB queue for the back.
I always like both for different reasons. On Sik I preferred the front.

Darren is this an old vid you never posted? only asking as you mention SIK as the new ride for 2021! LOVE my coasters but don't ride them that much now (would still do the woodies at Blackpool) but don't do steel ones that often with the Gs as I blacked out when riding Nemesis at Alton Towers a few yrs ago and felt quite ill afterward! so don't take the chance these days, especially at 52 and having a major stroke at 48 and a mini one at 49! ( im fully recovered by the way) woodies im ok with as you don't pull the massive g forces lol BUT I do have to admit I miss the adrenaline rush that you get off the bigger steel coasters!

I agree with what you say about Flamingo Land it actually has pretty good rides but the theming etc isnt anywhere near the quality of say Alton Towers, its like they spend all there budget on rides and not theming which is fair enough really your there for rides. but the views around the park etc arnt great and you dont feel like your moving through diffrent areas of the park its like its all one
