  • It was a 2 1/2 day adventure into the Jagungal Wilderness to see some of NSW alpine huts. With camera in hand we got to experience a glorious sunset over the Valentine River. We also walked to Valentine Falls which did not disappoint. What a great weekend away!
    I Also experiment riding a different bike. I rode my dual suspension bike on this one. Great for the rough stuff but the gearing was no good for the steep stuff.
    Fun Fact
    After chatting in a Facebook group, Jack travelled all the way from the Gold Coast in QLD to meet us. This was his first bikepacking trip and he did it with us 3 that he had never met. Can you tell?

      Thanks so much, Very much appreciated. It can be pretty difficult when none of the guys I ride with are as keen to make videos as me but they’re starting to get use to me stopping them every 5 minutes 😂 I’ve been trying to get better each time. I’m slowly improving the little things like audio etc.
      fingers crossed they only get better 🤞
      Cheers 👍

    Ratchet ring has chewed out the hub. Had this happen once to me, can actually feel it coming on before she strips. Mine was a Novatec hub.

      Cheers Allan, I often get asked why I don't just enjoy the moment rather than playing with cameras the whole time I'm on one of these trips. Your comment kind of answers it. Once I'm home going through the footage I get so keen for the next one. I'm always watching old videos and I get so excited to get back on the bike. You could say i get to enjoy the moment over and over again. Love it.
      Here's to plenty more rides in 2023 👍

    I have watched just about every vid there is on the main range and I have to say yours are the best. Whites River Hut is mine and my son's favourite place in the Alps (along with sitting on King Billy top of Jamieson River).

      Cheers mate, I appreciate it. I just had to watch it again before replying and I must say that whole area is just beautiful. I was so happy out there and I need to get back there again soon. Whites River hut is a beauty. I'm hoping to take Sarah there on foot one day and camp the night. Not enough weekends in the year to do everything 🤣
      Also, I'm desperate to get back down to the Vic High Country. I did a 4WD trip a few years ago and I'm super keen to do some hikes down there. Looks like I'll have to head up to King Billy as well.
      Thanks again for the kind words 👍

    There's so.e big hills down that way. I did a ride on The Boundary Trail west of Adaminaby. I'd planned to do a 30 km loop, 11 km in I had to call it quits.

      I felt like a cheated on the Raleigh with a younger, lighter, more flexible bike 😂
      I was planning on saying something about it in the video but just forgot.
      I wanted to see what a modern bike was like on a trip like this. (Rough terrain) Turns out I missed the granny gears on the Raleigh.
      Next trip I’ll be back on the green machine. i just love riding it. I’m currently tinkering with it while I type this message.

      @@livin4adventure_aus584 we saw a couple out at the hut on e-bikes. We watched them pedal up hills with ease. I was very jealous. These bikes are so expensive though.
      As for what to buy though, I’ve got no idea. I just like to have fun on whatever bike I’m on. Just make sure you don’t pay too much for a 2nd hand bike. The bike market is a bit crazy at the moment. I’ve seen used bikes advertised for higher prices then new in the shops.

    Got to get myself in to Valentine's hut at some stage (obviously!). I see you guys were all on hard tails. How do you reckon the going would be without front suspension on Gravel King 650Bx48's?

    • @advanturest
      @advanturest  3 роки тому +2

      Haha, I thought you built it 😂
      I think it will be fine. The trails aren’t super rough, it’s a bit hard to describe actually, kind of like smoothed over pot holes that make you loose momentum. It only gets rough if you go super fast. Even with this, that’s only the Valentine trail which is roughly 7km from memory. The track before that is a smooth gravel road. You will have no problems on that.
      I actually rode my dual suspension bike on this ride. It was my first time bikepacking on it. All my other rides have been on a 90’s rigid steely with 26 inch wheels. I would have happily done it on that bike. Only reason I didn’t was because I wanted to see what it was like riding a modern bike. I’ve been getting fatigued on the old one. Turns out I’m just unfit 😂

    • @nickvalentine1187
      @nickvalentine1187 3 роки тому

      @@advanturest thanks mate. pleased to hear that you're not at the peak of fitness as there was plenty of hike-a-bike in there!

      @@nickvalentine1187 I wanted to do night 1 Valentine hut, night 2 Mackeys hut, day 3 finish at cars at Denison campground. The car shuffle was to big so we did just do an in and out. Two nights at Valentine hut. 3 people turned up at Valentine hut on our 2nd night. They had ridden about 110km and they said the last 10km from grey mare hut was the worst / steepest.

      @@nickvalentine1187 I did a ride from Denison’s campground last year. It was in winter and probably not the smartest idea.
      I was new to bikepacking and my bike actually weighed 50kg. I took way to much stuff and I was so fatigued.
      We got out to some nice areas but didn’t make the hut unfortunately. It was a tough slog. Sometimes I think I’m fitter than I am 😂
