I LOVE these videos! as someone who recently completed the NYC to Philly moving process I have the exact same response as you to most of these apts. some landlords have nothing but audacity 😂😂😂 but Philly has some great gems and the classic row homes remind me sooo much of Brooklyn brownstones. Excited for you to find your perfect space!
Hahaha thank god I’m not the only one who have made the pilgrimage 🥲😳 it’s so stress lolol I appreciate your validity so much! Yes I need the feeling of Brooklyn and I love that connection too!
My first apartment in Philly was on the 900 block of Clinton Street, at the time it was a very desired area, near antique row on Pine Street and right next door to Pennsylvania Hospital. The outside was gorgeous, but the interior hallways were horrendous, with avocado green paint and big flowery wallpaper from the 70s. Thankfully the apartment was nothing like that. My kitchen had a skylight and both the living room and bedroom got a lot of sunlight during the day. They had coin operated laundry machines in the basement. The only drawback was that it was on the 4th floor, with no elevator.
Wow that’s so sick. I would probably be fine with the 4th floor walk up if the rest of these perks ~ and vibes were there :) thank you for sharing! So sweet
You can find AMAZING rentals in philly for A LOT less than NYC - dont come here n wreck my city tho. You can rent whole single houses for appartment prices n still be close enough to public transpo to get anywhere you need to go. Yall dont let them charge you NYC adjacent prices bc itll literally drive the incredible market up. Before you sign a lease talk to ppl in the neighborhood and similar or better places n ask what they're paying and negotiate to that level. I have a 4 bedroom 2 full bath with a giant yard in East Falls for $1850 for example. We turned the horrific literal wood heap saftey hazard yard into a gorgeous 3 level garden with a patio did about 5k worth of work (we only spent maybe $300 tops) so obvi our landlord hasnt raised the rent much from the $1700 we started at 4yrs ago. Btw where was that old store front one that was crazy!! Im guesing Fishtown adjacent! Just from your vibe you might either really love or hate south Philly.
Totally agree! Thank you for your really thought out advice - I’d never ever wanna drive up prices. Trust me, I got priced out of my own city from it & it upsets me really bad ): I’ve got a lot of friends who live/are from Philly so I consistently ask their rent prices and it seems like places were charging me more, or only offering more. I negotiated a lot but ultimately, gave up in my quest to live in Philly. I wanted so badly to be there but it felt like the universe was rallying against it - at least for now. Thank you for all of your advice and thought, it is SOOO helpful! To me, and I’m sure to others in the comments. Thank you. Xx PS that storefront one lolol was in south Philly I can’t remember exactly cause it was pouring and we were soaked/walking to/fro 3 diff apartments prior but it wasn’t too deep.
That's the issue. Philly is getting ruined by people who are from NYC and other places. Normal Philadelphian's can't afford to purchase a home anymore or even rent like we used too. Trust and believe if I didn't work for the city and had a work that I would be moving to Maine or something. At least you can find a place to park your car up there.
Awww yay! Thank you! Since this video I’ve actually decided to branch out from Philly because I felt like something was pushing me away from it, so I just trusted that lol. But I’ll always be in/out to visit and maybe one day things will change but for now, I like the rest of PA a lot better 🥹🫶
Can you do a video of how you found these different apartments? I am also looking to move into my own apartment after college and I have no idea where to find these apartment please help me
These videos have helped a lot in my own search! I'm also moving to Philly from CA and can't believe the sticker shock that you can get so much house for an unheard of price! Good luck with your move!
I really like the first place because of the fireplace. The bathroom was not a big deal for me because the area was beautiful. The street looked clean and safe.
I liked the house. But it does suck when the bathroom is upstairs. That's the way it is in my house and it's a pain in the ass. Thank you for the vlog. Peace 🕊️
Omg where was that open house??? 👀 I’m starting the house hunting journey and that place was my dream! Was it also in South Philly? How much was it going for 2 months ago? Inventory in my price range has dried up and I’m hoping I can find something similar closer to the spring when sellers start putting props back out there
I don’t care as much about sq footage but majority of the places were around the same footage anyway bc I was specifically looking for 2 bedrooms. So there was spill over! Priority list is relatively simple but I feel like I mentioned a bunch in the vlog(s) that I just want somewhere clean, in a specific area, washer drier in unit, and a good size closet space in bedroom - if not - multiple closets in / around unit!!
I live in port Richmond i have a 2 bedroom HOUSE upstairs, downstairs, basement, backyard, 1000$ a month with a GREAT attentive landlord. Couldn’t ask for more. There are PLENTY of places in Philly you can get that are very nice for CHEAP. There are a few gems in fishtown & south Philly you could find.
Thank you angel! My friend who grew up in port Richmond told me that too and I haven’t looked into it yet cause I thought I wanted to be “fully” in the city - but my plans are starting to change! I’ll take this into a big consideration and I can’t tell u how much I appreciate it 🫶
Not controversial haha - just a really far way down. It was like 3+ flights, just something I’m not used to! Was also a little erie cause it was unfinished lmao :)
&&&& this is why our housing market has gone thru the freaking roof-b/c so many moving here from NY helping to drive the prices up b/c they're accustomed to paying *so* much more for far less there. Sigh....(I live in a totally gentrified 'hood & a lg # of newer/more recent residents are here from NY, it def has been a factor $$, so pls don't @ me)
The entire American housing market is through the roof- I’ve been priced out of my own city (new york) way before I was even equip to move out haha. I’m sorry this is happening to you, but this is certainly not at the cost of me looking for a 1-2 bedroom with a very scarce/frugal budget. I’m equally as upset. I stopped looking because realtors were treating me as if I had this “”new york money”” everyone acts like we (natives) have. I am *not* used to paying so much more, my city was once affordable as well.
@@biancaellob not saying specifically b/c you (esp considering you're looking at apts) but more ref the circumstances, which you had cited as well, that for the same $$ , you get much more here than NYC. That comboed w/rampant development, 10yr tax abatements, etc...has led to a *lot* of greedy developers & realtors just seeing $ signs, & so many moving here to escape the same sort of thing that happened in NY. They came here to understandably, take advantage of a more reasonably priced real estate market, as well as more space, while realtors & developers simply saw an opportunity to take advantage. While it's not necessarily NY peeps fault that so many of them moving here has helped spur the increase in housing costs, it is, nevertheless, one of the reasons it has occurred here-even at its earliest onset, a lot of our housing market 'boon' was due to NYC developers & investors buying up properties here. I do understand the housing market is pretty bonkers everywhere atm, but ours really has been directly impacted by NYC thru development, investors, & residential movement. Considering our cities' somewhat mutually contentious relationship,(historically)that bit has just been kinda frustrating at times, that's all. Again, really was not directing my comment at you, specifically, but the situation, overall. Didn't mean it personally..
I have been going through quite a struggle to move back to Philadelphia after New York and Miami in Tampa, I was wondering where you wound up, I found your Instagram and it looks like you might still be in New York?
Hi love! Yeah it was actually such a struggle that I sort of-quietly-ish gave up LOL. Still in my New York home ♥️ been thinking of shifting courses a lil bit but I give a better breakdown here: ua-cam.com/video/y9QsLMl0LxI/v-deo.htmlsi=G8vBHwYiARyUoHH0 I hope this helps ease your stresses too! X
That open house at 6:03 though!! Is it to early to ask about potentially buying in Philly at some point and time? As someone who also lived in Brooklyn, I totally agree on not being able to get something like for the price back in BK.
How gorgeous!! It is too early I think :( I feel like I truthfully need to live and make a routine there before I would do something so extraordinary! 😊
Ahahhahha welcome to Philly! Unless you can afford an apartment in New construction buildings - this place is actually really nice. If you want clean, be ready to spend over $2k for a 1 bedroom, otherwise take the deal and clean it yourself. This is Philly - it's one of the oldest cities in the US and its a poor city, even the nicer places in old city still have wood water pipes
@biancaellob the city itself is very poor - a lot of industry has left, the average income is not that high, and the infrastructure isn't in good shape. Nyc is double that for rent though
I really, really like Philly & have been going there forever :} Pennsylvania as a whole I really enjoy the pace - but as this video is from last summer, I’m no longer looking in Philly because of how I kept getting treated/bamboozled by real estate agents and leasing companies 😂 it was too much after looking at like 50+ places, I gave up lmaoo
You, As someone leaving a gentrified city to go to a city that’s actively being destroyed by New York is crazy. Please go back to New York please pay reparations please actually understand the historical and social economic climate you’re moving in and actually make an effort to help a bunch of higher earning white folks is not helping this city where the minimum wage is still 725 and people are actively dying who are from here. Go help New York if you want to know how to help in Philadelphia in New York. I have connections to many organizations, but it’s imperative or Philly will do nothing but rob you steal from you and possibly kill you because you don’t respect it especially because you’re a public figure.

Same!!!!! Where do you go in philly!?
Great tours and you’re a wonderful presenter, but I wish you would tell what the rental prices are.

I've lived in fishtown the last five years and i just adore the neighborhood! so cool to see you touring philly!! welcome to the city
Awww yay! Thank you! Since this video I’ve actually decided to branch out from Philly because I felt like something was pushing me away from it, so I just trusted that lol. But I’ll always be in/out to visit and maybe one day things will change but for now, I like the rest of PA a lot better 🥹🫶
That first one looks EXACTLY like the apt i had my Jr/Sr year in college at UArts. It was on Spruce & 13th.
Hmm now that I’m thinking about it, that might’ve been closeby!
Is there a reason ypur not telling the prices?? I'm in jersey and would love to know prices
Can you do a video of how you found these different apartments? I am also looking to move into my own apartment after college and I have no idea where to find these apartment please help me
Looking at apartments is so fun cus u never know what ur gunna get 😂 what did you think of the south philly area and what kinds of vibes do you like?
Hahah exactly!! I love south Philly!!! It is my #1 location 🙂🙂 a good chunk of these were there
It's just the flipper grey color for the floor vinyls and stuff that can physically pain a man to look at
Yeah):
hi. How much did the first apartment cost?
These videos have helped a lot in my own search! I'm also moving to Philly from CA and can't believe the sticker shock that you can get so much house for an unheard of price! Good luck with your move!
Aww thank you I appreciate us both being on the same journey!!🫶 wow yes crazy. Good luck to you too love!
YES! THE VALUE IS LIKE NYC IN THE 90S!!! I THINK ITS A GREAT INVESTMENT.
I really like the first place because of the fireplace. The bathroom was not a big deal for me because the area was beautiful. The street looked clean and safe.
Thank you! This was super helpful and kind!
So true about women and first floor apartments! I wonder if it's that way all over the country or is it just the Philly\NYC in us?
Right! Hmm I think probably loads of metropolitan cities :) but it’s def a crazy thought only us ladies have!
WHY DID YOU NOT INCLUDE THE PRICES OF EACH APARTMENT? PLEASE CONSIDER INCLUDING THE PRICES OF EACH APARTMENT.
This long after the video you might not know anymore, but could you share the name of the building with the teal doors? Im obsessed with that place!
I liked the house. But it does suck when the bathroom is upstairs. That's the way it is in my house and it's a pain in the ass. Thank you for the vlog. Peace 🕊️
Thank you! Yes same agreed that ended up being my dealbreaker just cause :/ xo
Omg where was that open house??? 👀 I’m starting the house hunting journey and that place was my dream! Was it also in South Philly? How much was it going for 2 months ago? Inventory in my price range has dried up and I’m hoping I can find something similar closer to the spring when sellers start putting props back out there
It’s definitely sold by now this was over the summer!
Do you look at square footage before touring a place? Do you have a list of priorities?
I don’t care as much about sq footage but majority of the places were around the same footage anyway bc I was specifically looking for 2 bedrooms. So there was spill over!
Priority list is relatively simple but I feel like I mentioned a bunch in the vlog(s) that I just want somewhere clean, in a specific area, washer drier in unit, and a good size closet space in bedroom - if not - multiple closets in / around unit!!
I love this video 🥰 apartment hunting looks so overwhelming ☹️ but I’m also looking for apartment for when I graduate college.
Aww yes it is soo overwhelming!! Kinda insane. It’s like a big project lol! Thank you sweetie :) good luck
Grew up in philly my whole life, and still family amd my uncles pizza place is still there!
Great apartment tour!

Awesome video
Hey nice video! I just moved here recently and I’m posting videos about it as well!
I’m not into the old fashioned bathroom When you’re saying you loved second bathroom, I was cringing. 😅
Hahha no way it was my favorite 😹
How is it controversial to wish laundry was downstairs? Just curious what u meant? Normally that's where laundry would be 🤔 new subscriber
I'm guessing it's old fashioned to have laundry in the basement. Most people want it on the first or second floor now
Not controversial haha - just a really far way down. It was like 3+ flights, just something I’m not used to! Was also a little erie cause it was unfinished lmao :)
Hiiii can I have the info for the second tour? If you didn’t already book it lol

Nyc is double that for rent though
Can't always get what u want!
I believe you can if you try hard enough
Don’t do it sis…don’t do it..😅
I didn’t!🫢😋
Theyre actually called primary bedrooms! Trying to move away from master bedroom with an eye on the historic meaning!
Why is a NY girl wanting to live in philly?
