I needed a belt sheath for my Leatherman Rebar. I wanted to wrap it in leather and decided of the final design as I was building it. For this build, I used 6oz. (2.5mm) vegetable tanned leather, one 12mm snap, one double cap rivet and some waxed thread.
One all my parts were cut and the holes punched, I dyed them all and burnished the edges with gum tragacanth and a slicker. Then it was a quick assembly with some brown waxed thread and the double cap rivet.
I'm really happy with the result. I think this simple design let see the Leatherman and adds to the aesthetic of it. I really hope you'll like it too.

Holy shit man! That's a product! That looks really nicely done and so polished :) it turned out great Gerald! And a nice video and a story well told too... +1
Thank you very much my friend. I'm happy you liked it :) Cheers!
Kjellski Hi bro. I would to like to be rapper. I am 14 years old.I love rap more than life And I made first song on my channel. And I am very poor. Can you listen my song please bro. And song is made by PHONE.
Some how this video is in my recommended 6-8 times a year. I never watched it because I thought the holster wasn't worth it judging solely off the thumbnail. I gave in a couple months ago.... What a stupid ass move on my part. It's my favorite holster, best holster hands down. There's NEVER a day I don't have my leatherman on my belt. I work in a wide array of environments; snow, rain, heat, cold dusty, humid, dry, etc. I'm always dumping out my sheath because it is a magnet for dirt, organics, etc. This holster takes care of that.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks a lot Nick. I really appreciate your comment and the story behind it. It's greatly rewarding to see the design I put effort creating is appreciated! Have a great day.
Very cool concept. When my sheath gave out, for my 18+ year old leatherman, I just made a new one to the original design. Nice work!
Thank you very much.I made several of them, some traditional sheath style, some pancake style too, but this one is by far my favorite. mayeb because it is the most simple design I could come up with :) Thanks a lot for watching.
Red I love your projects. I've said and I'll said it again your craftsmanship is beautiful! That looks great!
Thank you Soph!! happy you liked this one. I like it too. Sometimes, improvising gives nice results ;)
Nicely done Red
Thank you Jack !!
So simple, so effective. I liked it on Instagram... I love it here! The quality of your work is outstanding. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Phil. I truly appreciate it.

Jared Hildabrant Thank you Doc. I appreciate it. 😊👍
Very nicely done, Red. A sharp looking and functional piece. You keep getting better and better! Keep it up!
Thank you very much Sir!! I truly appreciate your continued support. Glad you liked it :)
That will last a lifetime, Great looking piece of work!
Thanks. I appreciate it :)
Super nice simple and sturdy design, Red ! Thank you !
Thank you Remy. Could you send me your address again please. And the logo for your thing. I lost a bunch of data and it was all in it...
Leatherwork looks like a lot of fun a good excuse to buy lots of little tools. Also, my 20+-year-old leatherman came in a nice leather case, sad that they no longer include it.
It is indeed :) and it's also a lot of fun!!
Such an amazing job Gerald!! You soundtracks always invoke such a great feeling. Fantastic job brother!!!😊😊👊
Thank you my friend. Finding the right music always takes time but that kind of comment makes it worth it :)
The Redsmith 😊 you’re very welcome and it definitely shows!!
Well done piece !
Thank you Randall. Much appreciated.
Very nice. I just added this to my list. Thanks.
Thanks :) You're welcome!!
Super nice and clean design! Also very nice efiting and music choice! Well done!
Thank you very much Alex! The thought the music would fit leatherworking pretty well. Glad you share my thoughts ;)

Thank you very much Lukas!!
Beautiful work my friend. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you very much Joe. I truly appreciate it.
Simple et magnifique ! toujours un plaisir de voir tes réalisations, c'est que du bonheur !
Merci beaucoup Bernard. J’apprécie sincèrement :)
My friend you are a master of making simple projects inspiring!
Thanks a lot Steve. Inspire is the main goal of the channel, as many other makers inspired/inspire me to keep making :)
The Redsmith well I watched it as I had my morning coffee and I'm truly inspired to get down the forge and get making!
MoonshineMetalworks That's one of the best compliment you could pay me. Now go and forge something. And don't forget to edit the podcast 😉😁
As always, you make it look so easy. As always, I loved the video and the music selection!
Richard Ganster Thank you very much Richard!!😊
Well done Red! That's much cooler than the leather case that came with mine!!
Thank you very much. At least yours was leather. Mine was nylon ;) Thanks for watching !!
I like how you tossed the old one out - LOL
Thanks Jimi ;) No need for the old one now...
That's a beauty! I carry a Leatherman Wingman everyday, it really comes in handy, I keep it in my pocket. I wonder if I could make this with found objects. I find a lot of purse straps and belts in the garbage, not many as thick though.
Thank you very much!! I'm sure you can make your own with upcycled materials. Not need to use leather as thick as I used, 1.5mm should be fine too :)
The Redsmith thanks, I'm going to try it!
Refuse Reuse Please do. And then tell me how it turned out 😊
This is really a beautiful project! Thank you for the inspiration!
+GUIDO VROLA DESIGN Thank you Guido. Gald you liked it😊
Very nice!
Thank you Jim!
Awesome work Gerald! You're the first person to realize that it's called a leather man so it's meant to be kept in a leather sheath not nylon LOL.
Haha, exactly!! Thanks a lot Opa!! :)
Opa's Workshop I agree, but, the company is named after the owner. His last name is Leatherman. I doubt he would’ve used his name, if it had been Dikbentt.
Great stuff Red. Just needs an RS on it somewhere and you got a winner👍
Thank you Doc. Frankly, I hesitate to emboss some kind of design in it, but finally decided to leave it blank, as the design was already minimalist :)
Amazing transformation!!
Greg Kent Thank you very much Greg!!
Sweeeet 👍👍👍 it'll soon be leather season here too
Thank you Gib. Yep, with the snow, it's getting hard to work outside or in the garage. So, spare room and leatherwork :)
That looks better than the ones they include with their product. #jealous
Thank you Brian ! :)
nice work, Red!😄 I love your work!
Lea Baak Thanks for your continued suppport Lea!!😊👍
Beautiful project Red...Love it
Thank you Bill!! Much appreciated!!

Great job! You should offer them for sale.
Thank you. I do. I'm still working on my online shop, but if you're interested, let me know :)
nicee leather work sis well done
Thank you!!
Amazing! Really want to get my first leatherman. What type(s) do you have and would you recommend? Thanks Red
Thank you. I have 3 of them and my favorite so far is the Rebar. I like its size and the locking mechanism. That's a very cool tool, but it's different for everyone. Try some and you'll know which one is for you :)
The Redsmith ah thank you! Yes I plan to try some. Whichever one I get has to be UK safe to carry so no locking blade and restrictions on blade length. I’ll start doing some research!
Hope you'll find the right one :)
Veri good video
Thanks a lot!!
Can I give 5 thousen likes :) great work my friend 👏👏
Thank you very much my friend !! That's very kind of you :)
Awesome project Red! So many cool techniques. I definitely want to try leatherwork myself. That handmade strip cutting tool is fantastic
Thank you Ellen :) You definitely should try it, it's a lot of fun ! It's a little anvil used to close rivets and such.
i need one for my Leatherman, thats Bad Ass, you selling ? Awesome Job Gerald !!
Thanks a lot Sterling. Yes I do :) Contact me if you want. I'll make you a discount :)
Sick sheath man much better than the original, keep it up.
Also do you have any idea about when the cross bow shooting test?
Thank you very much. Glad you liked it.
I'll have to reforged the bow with a different steel, then will do the test. It wasn't as powerful as I wanted it to be :)
The Redsmith ok makes sense thanks. Looked like it was going to be super powerful
GuardedDig2 I hope it will be😊👍
The Redsmith me too 👍
wow thats nice
Kristoffer Sperre Thank you very much!
Such a timeless design. Love it! Would you consider selling the patterns?
Dan The Maker Man Thank you Dan. More than the pattern, I'm selling the sheaths 😊
@@RedSmithWorkshop That's great! I would like to buy a brown one for a Leatherman OHT.
Good job!
Thank you Sir !
Very Cool!
Thanks!!
Simple and Nice design! This is the kind of work that inspires me to try leatherwork myself. #makergoal
Thanks a lot Sebastian. I would love to give leatherwork a try!! If you need help, kust ask me :)
😊🙂
Cool take on a Leatherman Sheath. I've not seen one done that way. I think it turned out real nice. What kind of stuff where you using with the Japanese ( I assume) writing on it?
Thank you very much! The little white and yellow bottle is a (japanese) leather varnish. It just gives a little shine and protect the leather. I hope it helps. Thanks a lot for watching!
What is that thick block of black material you use under your hole punch. I cannot tell what that is. It seems like it is soft enough so it does not damage your hole punches. Some kind of plastic block?
Bruce Brachman It is indeed a block a black plastic. It's probably PVC and enables me to punch holes into leather without damaging my punch nor my cutting mat (or desk)😊
Nice! It looked tiny in that final sequence. That must be a huge hide.
Thanks Andy. Yes, the hide is pretty big. It's probably 3m2 :)
Keep it up host@Shadow
Thanks
This is a fantastic design, just wondering if there's a template somewhere.
Thanks a lot. Yes there is and it will be available on my website as soon as I'm done with it :)
Great educational and entertainng post, Thumbs up & i subscribed cheers !
Thank you!! And welcome!
@@RedSmithWorkshop , thank you for comment

Yeah yeah. Good work. Not jealous at all. Whatever. :)
Daniel Thomas Haha. Thanks a lot Dan!!😊

I just found this video. I must make a multitool for my Friend. Is it ok to use this method on one?
Of course you can! Thanks for asking and for watching!
What material is it you do most of the piercing work on - the black slab?
It's just a piece of plastic. Perhaps PVC.

❤
genial, tus trabajos , una pregunta como se llama el cuero
Muchas gracias. se llama cuero curtido vegetal.
What would be a good kit to buy for leather crafting?
I don't recommand to buy a kit. Just buy the tool you need for your first project. Than buy the ones you lack for the second one etc... Kits are usually not really good, and are too expensive.
The Redsmith ok. Thanks. What is the name of that wood tool you used for cutting the leather? Or is that somthing you made?
It's called a Leather Strip Cutter. I bought it few years ago and it's very usefull to make belts and strips out of large pieces of leather.
👍
Thanks!
What happened to testing your crossbow bud?
+Liam McRobert it will come in time. It wasn't powerful enough for my standards. Will try and find spring steel and reforge the bow.
The Redsmith
Did you heat treat and temper the steel? It will behave very similar to mild steel without being tempered. (Which is I'm guessing your problem).
Man at arms has a good video where the made the bow from hunger games. They made the limbs from steel and explained the heat treat and Temper on them quite well.
Would love to see what you come up with! If you want you can check out my work on instagram as robertson_forge.
Thanks Liam, I will check Man at arms and your IG :)
IMO, the leather he chose to use was too thick.
I think it's the right thickness
