Hi, I've had an AX53 since they came out, its been all over the world, it's lived a hard life. I always use daylight filters to protect the lens. The auto lens protection is starting to play up, I simply pushed a piece of card in to jam it open, that works and the filter still protects the lens. My last 3 Sony cameras have suffered the same problem, apart from that they still all work. I love my AX53, but I can't afford to rely on a camera that has had so much heavy use and is starting to show its age. I looked at the AX100 and AX700, both have great specs, but for UA-cam vlogging you just want a camera that works and gets it right 99% of the time, the AX53 starts quickly it does a great job even in low light, its also nearly half the price of my current AX53, the batteries are compatible with all my other Sony cameras. My conclusion is that the AX53 is still the best camera for my purposes, so for the first time I am not going to upgrade, I'm going to buy another AX53. The main drawback with the camera is wind noise, but that can be overcome with an external mic, this time I'll get a Sony mic as my Rode Mini Mic is not quite up to the job. PS I'll add that the GoPro 6,7 and 8 cameras have really got image stabilisation sorted. I enjoyed your video and its interesting that you came to a similar conclusion to myself three years later in 2020.

I think its going to boil down to what he wants to spend and how they will be used. IMHO both are great and have their pros and few cons. But like you pointed out the AX-53 is high-end consumer and the AX-100 is entry level professional.

Has anyone had a problem with the Sony FDR AX53 not coming on when you open the screen? on my third camera and the first two have done this. Best Buy does not know why. I did notice that they both got hot while in use prior to this occurring.

I agree FDR-AX53 is a better choice. FDR-AX100 got a bigger sensor but it's 4 years old now

Would you choose one of these over the Sony RX10 IV?

my primary use is tripod recroding school plays. I read that the the ax53 does not play well with a tripod - especially when stabilization is turned on ( ironically) - does sudden image changes - but even when stabilization is off.

Almost two years on I have a similar dilemma between the AX700 and AXP5. I shoot still photography with a Canon 5D MkIV but want something easy to use and steady for holiday videos. AX700 definitely much better at low light when I tried it out at a Sony showroom but guess I'm erring towards the AX55 for its gimbal stabilisation.

i have that camera, and I find the footage seems to be very grainy when not in low light as in shooting in a living room, it this a setting I have turned on or something, its great in day light out side and on other youtube reviews is very clear footage but for some reason on mine its not? any ideas?

I’m trying to decide between the AX 53 and the AX 700. Does anyone know if there is a difference in stabilization between the two filming in 4K????

Hi....I have the ax33 at the moment and I fiilm football matches from a tower. It struggles with night matches as the floodlights are not the best. My Question is would the ax100 greatly increase my footage as I would have more manual control....Many thanks in advance...
