My band added this to the set and had to learn the solo tonight. Thanks for the help! Made it much quicker than breaking it down myself. Perfect for people who already know how to play
The one thing you’re very good at is teaching. There’s a lot of good guitar players on the Internet trying to give tutorials, and most of them suck… You’re one of the few I have found who understands how to teach and how to get these licks across to us. So thanks a lot.
Thank You Will Hay. I love your lessons ! quick and accurate with out bogging down with too much "play it so slow i fall asleep waiting for the next part" I a quick learner and your put it there and its easy to grasp and a little practice and we've got it. I also learned how to play The Middle with your tremendous direction! Great job teaching.
This tutorial is excellent, thank you Will. My only suggestion for everyone reading would be to listen to the last fill before the main solo one more time because the album recording that most of us are trying to replicate is slightly different. There is no pull-off from 12 to 10 on the high E at the very beginning of that fill. The lick starts on the 13th fret on the 1st string, to 12, to 13 on the 2nd string, down to 10 on the 1st string. Following that, there is only one pull-off on the 2nd string instead of two (but all the same notes as this tutorial). The "correct" way to play it is actually a little bit easier than this video's version. Listen to the song in slow motion and you will hear the difference. Sorry that's confusing to read but the fix is really very simple in practice!
Cheers Will. I've been trying to work out the best way to play that last bit of the main solo for ages, but by jumping around the frets and strings it was never really fluid. The way you showed - sorted mate.
Dude! That was cool. You teach well. Hopefully i can get it. Fingers are slow. Any suggestions of a scale that will help me to get that lick? Im playing that song for a party with my friends. I just need the solo part. I will surely use your video. Thank you for the post and all your hard work. It's great for someone like me that cannot afford a teacher and not enough time in my schedule.
will hay, how many times did you slowly practice the fills and solo until you got to the point where you played them flawless without even looking at your fret board, haha, raddd. how long?
how did you get that sound? its been 2 year havent found it.... BUT NOW I FIND IT Why does it sound weird when I do it I’m doing the same thing but it doesn’t sound right 6:47
Too fast. I'm going to have to watch this several times to get it right. Still, it would take me hours to work it out (= years cos I'm just too lazy to try for me than 30 secs) so huge thanks! :)

You're a terrific guitarist! Thanks for the post. Brian was one of the greatest and most creative lead players I've ever heard.
*is, is one the greatest
Still is!!! :)
This breakdown was revelatory for me. My respect for Brian May's inventiveness has just gone up a notch. And what a concise tutorial. Thanks!

Im actually shaking. I never thought about how bluesy this sounds.
It's more cliff Gallup than blues, gene Vincents guitar player, have a look he was fabulous.
Bryn Jones, Sooo... Would that be rockabilly?

Tab?
0:32
Its been 5 years where are the tabs
What's your pedal settings here
3:42 to 4:20 oh so close but not quite right in my opinion. All the right notes, just slightly in the wrong order.
But otherwise very excellent!
Why did you stop making tutorials?
Why does it sound weird when I do it I’m doing the same thing but it doesn’t sound right 6:47
