Every woman I know in STEM IRL has said they don’t believe for a second AH actually works in STEM. Apparently the scuttlebutt is that she works on admin which, no shame but one would hope she could do some research.
I don’t want to get all mushy and dramatic but I’m going to for a hot second. One of my favorite things that happened this year is that I found your channel and joined your book club. I have such a fun time watching your videos and even though we have different tastes in books, I am enjoying being a part of your book club SO much. It’s so refreshing to read things that are not what I would pick out and the community is such a good time. It’s been pretty integral in me coming out of my shell a bit and remembering how much I love to read. So thank you! And here’s to an even better 2025 😊
There were good reads? Lol. In all seriousness, I’m glad you were able to enjoy some books. Especially with all the crazy things you read for the channel.
best part of my year was finding your channel and watching you suffer through books that i dont have mental capacity to get into and also providing top notch comedic lines. The ammount of time i quote one of your one lines during the day is truly concerning to the point that my partner keeps on looking at me like i am about to grow a second head. Either way, happy to be subscribed and to see what this year has in stock for you and us
Big fan, and I am writing a book this year. I am 50/50 on the bangs, because I love your forehead and open rant look, but I have them to hide my deep widows peak and it makes you seem a little mysterious. I'm loving the past years gains because I get hours of explaining while I do other things. 💕 just keep being a weirdo I'm always watching 💕
thank you for putting Not in Love on this list so i know Not to read it🙏🏾🙏🏾 not that romance is my genre-tise ANYWAYS BUT!!!! but I can’t handle dumbassedry from characters who are supposed to be intelligent😭 that being said I WILL BE CHECKING OUT THE BOOKS FROM YOU “BEST READ” LIST, ESPEICALLY THE HORROR/QUEER/RELIGIOUS ONES💕💕
if you want a cute pink book about demons and possession i would recommend the merciless by danielle vega. its also a series and the other books are also cute colors! happy new year, i cant wait to see what other (awful) books you read so i can listen to you rant about them!
great vid! this is such a dumb request but would LOVE a review of the book keily or the galatea app in general, I've been getting SO MANY ads from them
Haven't had a good experience with short story anthologies as well. There are some comic anthologies that are good, but I generally don't even purchase anthology non-comic books.
Okay as to what is literary fiction I heard a good definition I believe from Laura Crone’s (very long but good) video on The Magicians that a better way to think of it is character-driven (literary) vs plot-driven (genre). That’s a super duper paraphrased and condensed version of the very intelligent things she said but it definitely helped me reframe how I look at books.
I loved loved loooooved Goddess of Filth. Man that was fun! As a grown ass army brat, it was kind of cool seeing some rough sketches of army brat life in that book. I feel the same way about The Merciless by Danielle Vega
that does sometimes happen when men need to pee in the morning 🤔 it probably isn’t why when the guy is super into you but it can happen even when they sleep alone lol
Hey, I dropped out of college 2x with no degree too! “Calcified bone balls” 💀 I gotta say I had to stop watching your review of Satan’s Affair cause I’d just watched your reviews of Haunting and Hunting Adeline and my mental health couldn’t withstand more of that horrible writing with some of the most disturbing thing’s I’ve ever heard in a rant review and trust me 2024 was the start of my rant review era. I try not to judge authors based on their work but Carlton needs to go to author prison. It’s worse than CoHo and Penelope Douglass put together. 😭 Anyway thank you for enduring these books to make us laugh. ❤ Happy New Year!!!
I can’t remember if you made a video talking abt morning glory milking farm, but if not, I wanted to add context in case you didn’t know. That book originally started as a series of tumblr posts (I wanna say around 2017?). I read it back then. It’s kinda hard to find any trace of it now so I guess you just have to believe my memory of it 💀 I wanna say it was posted on this one account who posted a lot of really interesting monsterfucking stuff called momolady (or something like that). It was either posted by that account or reposted/promoted on there… I think a year ago I tried finding the original posts and I found them but I’ve since lost those links, but you’ve reminded me so now I wanna find them again!
If you make it to Kiss of the Selkie in the Entangled with Fae series, please let us all know! I read it, and I feel like there is something wrong with me. I bloody hated it. Every moment of it was insufferable to me, and I feel like I must be a bitter bean for not liking it. I haven't read any of the others from Tessonja Odette after reading that.
🙏 For you reading Where's Molly. Hopefully it will not sap your will to read in 2025. I finally made it out of my reading slump & made it over my 150 Goodreads goal for 2024 thanks to comics. Finished what's available of C.S. Pacat's Fence series & discovered The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, which I think you would love. Lots of Frankenstein inspiration with vampires, werewolves & a very weird cult/corporation out to eradicate monsters. I'm 11 issues into the 14 currently available plus a Halloween special & I love it. I feel like that, Jemma Croft's By the Pint & Ofelia Gränd's Frostbite were my standout reads for 2024. Oh, & The Whisper Queen comics. Issue #2 of that was a gut punch that brought me to tears & had one of the few pieces of dialog so powerful that I actually put it all in my review. Have to have read The White Trees series to get the full emotional impact, but it's a statement of grief that hits even if you don't fully know the characters' backstory. Also listened to Garrett M. Graff's The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 & it was the best audiobook I've listened to to date. I typically prefer reading, despite trying several audiobooks & I think this one showed me how much difference there is to having a voice cast versus a single narrator to bring a book to life & make the audiobook book experience better.
The Haunting of Alejandra by V. Castro was the worst book I read this year, maybe ever 💀 so color me surprised to see a book of hers in the "Best" list
@@weirdobookclub I think in the wrong hands it could be a very dangerous book because of the mental health and religious/spiritual portrayal mostly. I won't say too much but I'll say that in Alejandra's FIRST appointment with the therapist, the therapist just goes "yep you're being haunted by a demon" when Alejandra could've very easily just been very mentally ill. it was all around horrible. it was the first book of the year for me *and* my book club and I legit apologized to my friends for having them read this book 😭 it wasn't a funny bad, just bad bad. I could rant about it for ages.
random question to anyone who happens to remember, whats the name of the one book she reviewed about a guy who had did and/or was mute? (idk if theyre the same person) but i want to rewatch that review i just don't remember the name
in the future i would highly recommend looking up the proper pronunciation of authors names before you record a video. i think it's important to take the few seconds to learn how to say the names of racialized people, considering our already difficult histories with white people not bothering to give us the basic respect of learning our names.

I trust your reviews more than I trust anyone else. You tell me something is good, I read. I'm a simple girl
This means a lot. Be sure to come tell me if my recs hold up! It’s always fun to compare :)

0:27 it’s the power of the bangs

the audiobook for "Dowry of Blood" is excellent. It really extends the text. The narrator was perfect.

Earliest I’ve ever been for one of your vids! 🎉 happy new year! Give Beans a kiss from all of us!
Happy New Year !
I love your channel and your rants are hilarious and they always make my day
You should definitely continue the Queen takes knights series! After you mentioned it I read it and binged the next four books right after 😅

Love a good best/worst/disappointing book end of year review 💖

@@chellyfishing that’s a much better definition than my fiction workshop teacher gave me lol, thank you for sharing!

Hunh you brought some memories rushing back, I remember that account
Hi there NM! I hope you have a marvelous new year and a great 2025! Here's to new years, new books, and new sexy-ass beverages and/or men!
Came for the snark.
Stayed for "Calcified Bone-balls".
The Sparrow Falls series by Catherine Cowles is a small town romance series that I really liked! I almost finished 3 of the 4 books in a week lol
AJ Cook reading it makes me want to listen to it. Curious about one of our own. Thank you for the recommendation
If you make it to Kiss of the Selkie in the Entangled with Fae series, please let us all know!

The stationery shop is one of my favorite books of all time 😭
If you wanna read more by Lucinda Berry.. my favorite is Saving Noah, really recommend.

You should read Burning Girls by C.J Tudor! It's about a creepy english village with so many secrets and twists and turns, plus really well written!
if you haven't read Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung, I recommend that one despite the fact it's a short story collection and very divisive.
The Haunting of Alejandra by V. Castro was the worst book I read this year, maybe ever 💀 so color me surprised to see a book of hers in the "Best" list

if you read it, PLEASE try to find trigger warnings first because she doesn't provide any and there is A LOT.
❤❤
i genuinely do not believe Ali Hazelwood knows anything about STEM 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 if she does my bad but she sucks at portraying it in her books imo
❤️👍

Was it by chance Little Stranger?
I might be mixing things up in my head though because I do watch a lot of random romance book vids. But the MMC is mute for a decent part of the book
