I was torn between 105 Di2 and Mechanical. I ultimately went with mechanical due to price and it was already a good jump from the entry level groupset I was using already.
Once you go di2 you never go blah blah blah. I've had di2....sure it's nice shifting but ain't so awesome when it breaks or battery dies. Each to his own.
Nice to see Backyard on your channel, Chris.......only a few miles from my home. Cool build and still quality finishing kit on the silver cervelo there 👍.........apologies for not commenting on your latest French epic bike trip, for some reason, notifications were off, so I've only just realised and caught up over the weekend watching another epic bike story unfold. Superb stuff indeed. BTW Chris, might we see you on Francis & Jimmis podcast in the near future? I think that would be a fine listen & watch! 👍.....have a grand week ahead in this squaly weather of ours. Makes my Murcia bike holiday a very distant memory already !
Was torn between mechanical Ultegra 11 speed on a deal, or couple of hundred squidders more for 105 Di2. Gotta say, in operation, 105 Di2 is flawless and looks great on my Diverge. #noregrets
Upgrading my 2021 Specialized Roubaix. Torn between SRAM and 105 Di2. Thoughts? Nic makes this look easy. Jimmi has a future in remake of The Full Monty 😂
Does all look very nice, weight wise I think I'd struggle to notice the difference. Will be interesting to see your thoughts on how it compares, and how the shifters feel compared to GRX.
Shifter shape is the same with all the 12 speed group sets and they are ergonomically much better than the previous generation 11 speed road group sets
Loved the vid. 😎👍🏻 …Does the guy trying to dance at 6:49 realise that nearly 20,000 people have seen him? 👀 That’s the sort of thing you do in front of the Mrs when you’re had a few. 😁
How is the brake feel of the 105 shifters? The 11spd mechanical had a very long travel compared to GRX800 series shifters before they engaged the pads, they felt very mushy so interested to see if these are online with GRX Di2. Great video as per usual. Need to head to the bike shop next time I am in the North East.
As one of the 99% of people in the world not on electronic i have to say you guys are really living in a di2 bubble. Even 105 is almost a 6 figure groupset here and the rich guys on the F12s etc are still opting to ride mechanical and if they did have electronic there's little to no knowhow or service for them outside Manila anyway. With the dumping of anything below Tiagra and the move to Cues there seems to be a massive gap in quality, a real "us and them" divide in groupsets about to happen. Tiagra hydraulic disc is 28000 peso and the 105 mech is 60000....thats the cost of an Elves frameset difference...so yeah, Us and them 😒....just saying
@@roadcyclist1 Many people work hard and do not earn a living wage. Your contention that anyone and everyone in a given economy could simply earn a good deal higher wage than they currently make by just working harder or your assertion that they presently do not work hard enough is blatantly ignorant on several levels.
@@roadcyclist1 completely missing the point. Yes Electronic is amazing but then owning my own home and being debt free is even more so, is that working hard enuugh for you?
@@roadcyclist1 I'd call it good but not amazing. Yes it shifts quicker, smoother and you can shift under load. But that's all the difference. It's better than mechanical but the price difference is just absurd.
Dancing Jimmi was the highlight of the video for me!
😅

Should have went with di2. Once you go to electronic shifting you will never go back.
@@roadcyclist1 since I haven’t used electronic shifting I have nothing to go back from. Only forwards.

Agree on the crank, 105 much nicer looking than Ultegra 👍

Thanks for watching as always! Yeah I would love to be on the podcast some time. I'm sure it will happen in the near future.
@ChrisHallRides Nice one Chris! will look forward to that one 👍 have a good week ahead!
The best thing has got to be that the 105 crank isn‘t going to be recalled 😉 105 for live. Upgraded from 3x10 rim to 2x11 last year and still happy.
i went for rival over 105 b/c they were so similar and rival was just avail, super cool seeing how ez set up was on 105 di2
Yeah really easy to set up!
One Hundred and 5 looks nice!
🙏
Love this frameset.....my perfect build ❤
Glad you like it!

Yeah I would go for the Di2 over a mechanical group set too personally. It works flawlessly
105 Di2 for the win...
👌

I have never used SRAM so I can't really comment to be honest.
Thanks Chris...crazy Welshman dancing. ..... how do the shifters feel ?
Great! To be honest I can't really tell the difference to the higher tier groupsets in terms of how they feel
@@ChrisHallRides Thanks , bud

hahahahaha, he doesn't mind :)
No. Sram Rival AXS gives you many more gear options and cross-compatibility with AXS components.
Yes, and Sram AXS also gives you more batteries, inferior shifting and inferior braking and those undersized garbage DUB bottom bracket bearings. 🙂
@@rcg9573 Still better than being limited to only two cassettes, with two toothr jumps at around 30 km/h.😄
@@bennop.2553Gear jumps in SRAM cassettes are higher, if only because of those tiny Mickey Mouse front chainrings.
Thankyou for the video Chris.. Do any of these electric group sets (old or new) work with rim brakes ?
Older Ultegra versions do Rim brake options as does SRAM
You can get Ultegra 12 speed Di2 as a rim brake version. I'd imagine there will be a 105 option soon too
Came fo the bike build...stayed for Jimmi's dancing... #mechanicalftw
Everyone loves Jimmi
As you’ve ditched the power meter crank are you switching to power meter pedals?
Yep I have been using Garmin Rally pedals
What bar tape was used? It looks like the factory Cervelo stuff. I can't find it anywhere.
It’s from BBB
It looks like BBB Flexribbon, incredible to wrap and super cheap comparatively.

Loads of the breaking technology from the 11 speed GRX groupset has been bought over to the new 12 speed groupsets so it’s really quite impressive!
When you add electronic groupsets to any bike. The bike becomes guess what? A E BIKE 😂😂😂
What kind of bar tape is that?
BBB
Can you compare the Caledonia to the Soloist? How do they ride and how much do the frames weight?
Weight is pretty similar. The Caledonia is a more calm ride and steadier. Soloist feels more racy
@@ChrisHallRides how does it descend, the soloist I mean. I have a focus izalco max and it descends like it’s on rails. And I don’t want to miss that.
Do you know anyone that runs Di2 cables to the shifters with the new 12 speed groupsets?
Nope I haven't heard of anyone doing it but in theory you could

will the 11-36t cassette fits on a shimano 105 di2 RD?
Yes
@@ChrisHallRides thank you
107 grams 😮 IYKYK 🙌🏻
😉
Nice!
Adam Sandler makes the best bike builds🎉🎉🎉
Sram axs rival or apex… just saying
Why would you do that when you can get a better groupset for the same money 😂?
inferior shifting and braking, ,......... just saying
quite a bit heavier than 105DI2, and 105DI2 isn't very light.
Has anyone tried with a 53t chainring?
I’d imagine it would work fine
Shimano say 52t max. But I'm same as you, can't see why a 53 wouldn't work
105 DI2 yes but in rim.
I’m pretty sure there may be an option for that
@@ChrisHallRides Is there?
