This is the second video I've seen on the subject. I'm still a little lost...... I'm gonna be a 53 yr old *kid* in 9 days. I'm only just getting back into R/C, since leaving in 1998. EVERYTHING has changed! Especially the electronics.
Back in the day, with my Futaba 2PK-A, I had to do only 3 things to get running.... Turn on, Trim, Drive!
I currently have a GT2B, and although I believe it makes a great, basic, user-friendly 3-channel Radio, I STILL don't know how to make the 3rd channel turn my lights on and off!
You may never know!! 😋

I also use a flashed FlySky GT3B for my SCX10 and a flashed Turnigy GTX3 for my Trail Finder 2 and they work very good.

Best video I've seen on this subject. Wish I had found it before I did mine. I used an ST-Link v2 programmer which is a sleek little usb stick with pins on the back which eliminates the need to desolder the jumper on the old discovery board, as well as the need to track down an outdated usb-b cable. Can be had on amazon with free shipping for $7 with a 4 pin cable so all you need is a 4 pin header and you're good to go. Just run all 4 wires and run the program as shown in the video.

Hello, this is a fantastic video! Would you suggest this radio with these upgrades or would you suggest the Flysky GT3C with newer firmware? Can you also confirm that after the firmware upgrade, the transmitter is able to store 60 + models? Is it possible for you do an instructional video on how to do this upgrade with the GT3C? Thanks. The hardware issues you mentioned might be exclusively Hobby King brand issues. My FlySky (branded Flysky) has a very tight wheel with absolutely no play, and my back light shuts off after a 30 secs or so of not pressing any of the menu buttons. Maybe they have slight alterations for each name they're sold under.

regards to the hack and the wiring of the boards. why did u connect four wires? every other vid or reading ive had seen on the firmware hack only used three wires
+Ricky StrAwhun The 4 pins are +5v, SWIM, RST and GND. The latter 3 are necessary for programming, you could get away without the +5v and power the transmitter from it’s battery which would be your 3 pins. Using the +5v from the programmer makes sure the 9.6v can’t possibly find it’s way out and damage something. It’s *extremely* unlikely, but why risk it for another wire?
I'd bet one of the main reasons for using 3 wires is you can use fairly common servo female to female leads for the interface.
+Ricky StrAwhun If you had looked closer, you would have noticed pin 4 is not connected. It's not needed. Most people would have realised that. :-)
+propfella oh my fault. guess hes not using a 4 wire female to female plug?? with four pins soldered to board connecting four pins to the discovery?

They get used a lot on machine assembled surface mount boards for setting board options.
This is yes a good remote. But your fix. Seriously. Only you or someone with your skills can do this software-fix.
I’d like to know how many people besides you did this hack.
Back when I made this video flashing the software was a bit iffy with having to modify the dev board. But I believe the small ST-Link devices should work just as well, they're cheaper and should be a lot easier to use.
Maybe I'll have to redo this series making it a bit more up to date.

I think you should consider just making this update to them for people and make a online small side hustles business.
