I was at a small business store looking for a 2nd stick and I actually went down to an intermediate stick bc they offered me a CCM Jetspeed 65 flex P29 at 50% off so I couldn't pass it up. I freaking love it!!!! So I still haven't tried the P28 yet lolol! My backhand shot has suffered since switching from the P88 which saddens me, but I just have to spend some time working on it and figuring it out with the new stick. I still haven't even taken a shot with a P28. I ought to ask a teammate if someone has one so I can see what it's all about!
@@juliegatesman9501 I will say that the P28 is not the best curvre (for me) To shoot on my back hand, so there's that to consider. However, I have seen plenty of my better teamates roof some back hand with the curve haha. But for me, it feels like the puck is glued to my stick when I play with it, so its worth it for me.
As a casual beer leaguer - I am constantly looking for reviews on the "team" level sticks, Vapor 3x, Ribcor Team, Tacks Team, etc. They dont exist. I would love to see you guys do reviews on comparing these mid level sticks at the ~$170 range because this is what a majority of people searching for can afford and are using. My local hockey shop doesnt carry these, only the top of the line sticks so its impossible to even test them before buying. Please do this!!
I suspect this channel gets sticks for free directly from the manufacturers. So they end up pushing the high end high profit stuff. I agree with you, I don’t need top end, and I don’t like low end.
I would like to see CCM or Bauer, Launch open days at Rinks. Charge people £10-20entry, and they have Demo’s of their equipment, sticks, skates etc. and you can try them all out in a 2 hours session. Ice hire is about £200 an hour, so 20 players paying £20 covers the Ice hire. So if you had 30 you cover staff costs. Etc etc.
They have both done this in the past. It just doesn't regularly make it into the UK due to cost (and normally not for rec players). If hockey was bigger here, they would :(
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial do the shops over there have shooting rooms? Most shops in MN have shooting rooms for demoing sticks and the Bauer store in Bloomington MN has a small rink in the store ( about 1/4 sheet) that you can go try equipment and sticks.
Definitely like the idea of having reviews on more affordable sticks. I just got a stick on sale from ProStockHockeySticks for $110 (That is the actual brand, not just Bauer or CCM sticks that are pro stock). It feels pretty good, but I don't have much to compare it to because I can't afford to buy a bunch of sticks for testing. I heard Custom Hockey Sticks also makes good twigs, but they are around $150. There is also NoName Hockey. I'm not sure if you can find a really good stick for under $100 these days because of inflation, but I'm all ears if you do. Personally, instead of Tommy ranking sticks by overall performance, I would rather see him rank sticks by categories. Which stick shoots the best slap shot, which shoots the best snapshot, which is best at puck handling. The problem with just going by his preference for all around is that he might have priorities that are different from ours. He could place a stick high because of a great snapshot, but what if we prioritize stick handling? By breaking down by categories, I think it would give us a much better picture of which stick is right for us. Of course, he can still have an all around winner. But a break down would be great.
Noted! I'll see what's possible about getting those brands of sticks. Regarding your comments on Tommy.... NO! We make the videos how we want..... JOKING!!!!!! Fantastic suggestion! We will make that video this week! Big thanks for the suggestion and it TOTALLY makes sense! Get ready for another big stick video.
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial Hey, glad to hear it. I've pretty much watched all your stick review videos and skate review videos, so I look forward to seeing your new ones. I got really confused in the past with the rankings because some sticks were ranked higher than others in one video only to be ranked lower than the same sticks in subsequent videos. You explained the discrepancy as Tommy picking sticks based on his personal preference in one video vs trying to rank sticks for the general public in another. I think adding a ranking by category would clear this up. Thanks for being responsive to the community. 👍
So great to see Hockey Growing in The UK.. we take hockey for granted here in Canada. It is a way of life here.. We spend so much time as kids in the arena.. and when you become a parent it starts all over again.. At least I’m my case that’s what happened. As I come to the end of my Sons Minor hockey life I’m dreading the Season that begins without him registered to play. I only hope he will continue with possibly a Juvenile team or Beer league even.. I wonder how many Canadians would recognize what the t shirt logo means here in Canada??
Hey Chris, try all black hockey sticks. They are at or under $100. Not sure if you would qualify them as a brand but I've used them in the past and would recommend them.
I have narrowed down my spec into what I like after 2 years of really testing and thinking about it, p28 95 flex 64” mid kick. I have been playing for 11 years and over time I learned that I really fit the role of the stand up point man who rips shots from no closer than 15 feet off the blue line. From the d zone I have found that any lower of a flex makes my pass lag a bit due to it flexing like a wrist shot and not hitting where I like.
Definitely mixing the affordable sticks is really helpful, I did like splitting the low kick in one video and mid kick in the other. I also wonder if some of the retail specific spec sticks (such as the True HZRDUS Pro/Lite at The Hockey Shop) are really different than the normal retail counterparts (those two sticks are based off the HZRDUS 3X apparently).
I been using a sherwood hockey stick and I love it. I am by no means on a team or anything right now I'm redeveloping my stick handling. Surprisingly not doing too bad. I played street hockey with friends and family. I haven't played in years but my stick handling is still surprisingly descent. I spent 2 hours today practicing 😊
Oh man. I mean let’s get the budget hockey gear playlist going! I think you could easily do a ton of videos focusing on low to mid budget gear options all culminating in a 3 part series assembling the ideal full gear kits for 3 budget tiers. Best Complete Hockey Gear Setup for: Under $500 Between 500 and $1000 Between $1000 and $1500 Or something like that…
When I started playing, composite shafts with replaceable blades were commonly used, as were wooden sticks. Wooden sticks were much cheaper than today's one=piece sticks, which allowed players to try different curves and flexes quite easily. Today, sticks and equipment are so costly that the average youth player is not able to sample equipment in order to find out what works bes for them. And, for many of us living in small hockey markets, stores don't carry a wide array of equipment; so, even if money isn't an issue for a player, it may not available to buy in a local store. The best advice I would give to the average player looking to sample an arrary of gear in order to find out what works best for them would be to buy used gear.
I remember buying my first player stick, I tried to order it online. I got asked “What kind of shooter are you?” Needless to say, I ended up walking into our local pro shop and getting the cheapest stick they had. 2 years later, I still don’t know if I’m playing with the right handed stick. Way too many options, even within a single manufacturer, to try and pick a single item.
Tested way too many sticks to dial things down to: p28, low-mid kick, ~75-80 (effective/cut) flex (185 lbs), an inch above chin length (on skates), 420g tier, and standard/concave shaft profile.
Over the years I have tried different stick flexes and curves. I found that I like a stick with a flex from 80 to 100. I went from a W03/P92 to a P28 recently and like it, but still have my old stick is I feel like I need to go back. I have to main stick now that I go back and forth with if I want that differnt feel. My main stick is a Warrior Alpha LX Pro at 80 flex with a P28 curve. Then I have two back up sticks that are CCM Tacks AS2 pros. One is 95 flex and a P92/W03 and the other is a 85 flex with a P28 curve.
We need more stuff to help our kids.. I can pick for myself no problem.. but my 10 year old.. we need better reviews and support on supporting our kids knowing that in 6 months to a year they will need all new equipment as they grow. Right now.. except for skates (my kid wears 8.5 wide senior skates so we pay a little more), I get whatever is comfortable to him as cheaply as possible.
So glad you posted this comment! My son is just about to start hockey (age 9) so I’ll be sharing junior review videos on equipment for kids. The first video will be a fitting guide on how to buy equipment for kids focusing on skates, sticks and helmets ! Can’t wait to share
If you could do stick family videos like you did with True's top 3 models, that gave a really good idea of the performance benefits of each price point and the kind of player that might have a preference even within the same stick family.
I just got a Warrior P28 LX Pro 85 flex...I was using a sherwood P28. The LX Pro, I can't play with that stick at all and I cannot figure it out. I thought it might be the stick lie, but they seem to be the same lie? Not sure what is going on. Guess back to the old stick.
Love your guys' channel! I was surfing the web for an "elite" level stick on a budget and came across Twig Hockey Company. I like their mission statement so gave them a try. They make 1 piece sub .400 gram sticks in both low kick and mid kick. I have a twig rogue B (mid kick) from them its a beautiful looking stick (gets a couple stares in beer league) and performs very well! Ive been super impressed with mine. Would love to see you guy's get your hands on one and give an honest review.
In the sub 100 dollar stick category - STX is still making REALLY competitive sticks for 65-90 bucks The Surgeon is my go to nowadays for replacements for myself and friends.
I am starting to like and appreciate more 2nd even 3rd line equipment. They are much less expensive yet provide more perfomance that we (beer-leaguers) can use and are even made (most of the time) more durable. I would like to see more of these types of videos, hope you agree. Flagships are interesting to watch, these are useful.
I’d recommend STX sticks for review; not a small brand but one I don’t see on the ice much. I switched to STX from Warrior sticks and have only been more and more pleased with performance and durability. They aren’t much cheaper MSRP but often on sale directly through their website, plus recently they they do BOGO free deals towards the end of summer.
I second for all black hockey sticks. They have their standard $89 stick, a 12k carbon fiber stick for $101 and an $18k carbon fiber stick for $133. The catch is for the 12k and 18k, you have to buy three of them. I got a three set of the 12ks and am loving them. Would love a comparison of all three and how they compare to other bigger brands. Also, all black has a super easy and consistent stick customization process. A little contradictory to your video, one of the reasons that I keep going back to all black is that I know that I can get the exact same spec’d stick every single time, without having to do research on what these bigger brands have decided to name their products this year. 😂
You guys need to get your hands on the black out sticks. Here in Canada there’s a few retailers who sell them. There’s some mystery behind them and the tech, but they’re a great value against the top tier sticks that they’re based off. Maybe a side by side comparison between the name brand and the black out sticks????
For budgets, perhaps +5% or +10% would be ideal - a £105 product is probably more inline with other products ~£100, than with the next price point up (150/200/250) Or maybe do it by the price's target audience as opposed to by the actual value (£99 and £101 are basically the same, but would be in 2 different lists otherwise)
I brought a WINNWELL Q13 with PS155 curve it was the closest curve to the P88. I really like this new curve more open I've a great feeling with it I cannot find the P88 in my country.
I came back this year after 7 seasons away (back injury and covid)... i used tobuse a really short p77 95 flex cut down to about 120 flex... i can't make it work now at all after the injury so i have been playing with a 70 and an 85 flex p28 a little longer... the results have been... well im still looking for something =o) its rather frustrating when you feel lost after using the exact same set up for a decade before.
I have a mid-kick CCM AS-570 and a hybrid FT 5 as a stay-at-home defenseman they are completely different. Not just in shots, but against the boards, lifting sticks, and passing is all very different with either stick. Honestly, I wish I had just bought another mid-kick, not a huge fan of the hybrid for my style of play. So I would stay defiantly break up hybrid and mid-kick but if Tommy tests them then he may not feel the same differences as a D man like myself. Shooting is like 20% of my game.
depends on what you can find but Trigger 6 pro and other pro stock sticks from 2021 are still really good may even be better than the midspecs this year
All Black Hockey Sticks lets you make customizable sticks at your price range. If you get a custom stick, you have to order three, but as you set your 'quality' range, you set your price range! I HIGHLY Recommend this brand for casual hockey players, and even semi-competitives.
Literally exactly what I used I just go into hockey and I really wish I started at a younger age I’m 22 so I can still learn but I wanna get into roller hockey or ice and they got my a good stick
I think a break down on the cheaper sticks is a good idea, but compare them to the top spec sticks. With the mid ranged priced sticks let us know if they perform closer to the higher end or lower end. Thats a struggle i have, figuring out the performance difference between the $150, $250 and $350+ sticks, does the $250 stick perform more similar to the $150 or $350 stick. Im no longer a competitive player beong in my 30's so im not going to buy a top spec stick but i would be more inclinde to buy a mid to high mid range stick if it performs closer to the high end stick.
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial honestly, the way you guys reviewed the True Hazardous sticks is perfect! A funny one you guys could do os a review of smelling salts! Who doesn't like a lil sniff on the bench? Lol!!
Biggest question I have these days is all the internet brands that have popped up; Shift, All Black, Prostockhockeysticks in house brand, etc. I've been playing for 20+ years and am tired of paying for sticks. I'd also love some longer term durability discussions. I know these can be subjective but I've had sticks that last months or more, and I've had a few that lasted weeks... Usually just outside of the warranty period in my case.
Me and a bunch of the guys are super lucky. We try out new gloves, sticks and skates. Almost every week or every second week if anybody’s looking for a fun second job I highly recommend working at a hockey store. There’s nothing more fun than talking shop all day with your buddies and getting gear cheap.
I am pretty dead set on the 85 flex 28 blade profile but find that CCMs 28 is more open than others, low kick of course, had an Easton Synergy 850 with an almost perfect blade but the mid flex threw my game off bigtime... Currently using the Hoapa PRO+ and I really like it, they cost 249$ for two sticks, price has gone up a bit since I got em and they ship free to Sweden, import tax gotta be paid though as they ship from Taiwan...
“the wand doesn’t make the wizard, the wizard makes the wand.” someone told me that and I decided that getting a different spec stick or even a new one just wasn’t worth it until I broke both of the sticks that I have. I’m lifting 4 times a week so obviously my shot’s gonna get substantially harder and harder with time. with that being said, I am interested in using the P90TM blade as it’s a mix of the 28 and 29. the 28 just has way too much toe curve for me as of now.
I’m using a Sherwood with a P90 TM blade . I was using a P88 . The curve is not as problematic as I thought it might be my passed and backhand are pretty good . I do have to adjust my blade angle for forehand shots , my snap shots are much harder and more accurate then with the p88 .
Fun fact p88 used to be Patrick kane’s curve who has a basically straight blade and now it’s ovi who has huge hook on his blade lol. The name of the player on the stick does not matter, get the best curve for you
I‘m using a stick from swift-hockey since last year and it feels great. Pricepoint is about 150$ and I think it is performing great even against sticks that cost double as much!
I really like All Black Hockey Sticks. They're $89.99 with no branding, but supposedly, they're a high-end stick. I'm not sure if they ship worldwide. Every time I want to try something new in a stick, I get an ABHS because they're really well priced and still very light and a great construction.
A good idea if you really want to test out new gear is to allways be doing it as a blind test. Not knowing What brand and model is a gives more justice to a test.
I think you should do a series about "hidden gems" or whatever you want to call it. I manage 2 pro shops and we always have older sticks that we mark down to sell. Tons of little shops have sticks for under $150 or even $100 that were $200 sticks, but maybe they're 2 seasons old or it's the last one we have and we're trying to sell it quick. For example, I have Alpha QX's for $140, Trigger 6 Pro for $180, or even like a Ribcor 65k for under $100. Little shops are a great place to go, Pure Hockey and these big retailers want to sell the newest most expensive thing. As pro shops we're trying to educate and sell you want you actually need, we aren't trying to sell Trigger 7 Pro's to your 12 year old. Heck we start every kid under like 6 with a straight blade wood sticks and let them figure out their better side. No reason to waste money early. I stock cheap sticks with different curves for people to try like Krypto Pro's or FT465's, even team sticks.
That's a really great idea ! the only issue is there are basically no stores in the UK. The best store here is 3 hours drive 1 way from our city :( So we really need to work online to find great options. This is a great idea non the less. We just need to shop online.
What about a "mega test"?.. do the videos in their rightful sections (low kick, mid kick ect) and then do a separate video, "mega test" mixing the budget sticks with the high end sticks. Give them a ranking and show their price next to it. It'd be very interesting to see what ends up where and how the price reflects that.
I've been using a Total One nxg for the past 8 years until last week, i broke it and now i cant find a stick that has the same feel its weird, i liked it so much
I think you should do stick reviews by going thru the jetspeed 465-ft5 and do that for all line ups of sticks so that all points are covered or even break them into smaller tiers and same for the skates. I think this would slightly freshen your guys content and cover the whole price line up I mean some people from my league even grab those $50 bauer and warrior sticks from dicks sporting goods so maybe for fun do a video with those super cheap sticks too.
maybe you have this already but I'd like to see you do a shoot out with some of these up can coming or off label brands like Hockey stick man, Blade tech, Shift, Twigg......
Frankly I dont know if my specs are "correct." I'll try all sorts of different specs. I feel like you need to use that stick for a good 6-8 hours to get a good idea if its correct. Sadly I dont think many will know if our specs are right because the equipment is super expensive. We can't afford to change really.
How common is ice hockey in the UK? Not going to lie, initially, the accents took me out of it! The content is top tier though, and I've been coming back ever since. S/O from Ontario, Canada!
Average Eskate in the house!! I roll my 'zoom stick' like a MF and your videos have been a great resource 🤜🤛 I've never played hockey but I friggin love it.
I agree would love to see their thoughts on STX twigs
Agree here on STX. Right now you can pull a Surgeon RX3 off Amzon for $102. Id let that slide into the comparison mix for sure!
Used a STX Stallion I picked up on clearance a while ago for like $150... one of my favorites to date
Didn't think stx was manufacturing sticks anymore
Getting this comment a lot. We'll try get hold of one.
Hockeystickman is where I previously bought mine
For budgets, perhaps +5% or +10% would be ideal - a £105 product is probably more inline with other products ~£100, than with the next price point up (150/200/250)
Or maybe do it by the price's target audience as opposed to by the actual value (£99 and £101 are basically the same, but would be in 2 different lists otherwise)
I was thinking the same regarding how we decide on pricing. FYI it will be in USD just because its easier for the world. GBP is a small audience.
I brought a WINNWELL Q13 with PS155 curve it was the closest curve to the P88.
I really like this new curve more open I've a great feeling with it
I cannot find the P88 in my country.
U guys need to try verbero sticks they claim to be lighter and stronger than the top spec sticks from Bauer and CCM
Shooting is like 20% of my game.
would you recommend buying current seasons midspec, or top spec from last season or 2 seasons ago since their pricepoints seem to be simmilar
depends on what you can find but Trigger 6 pro and other pro stock sticks from 2021 are still really good may even be better than the midspecs this year
Love the shirt! Great idea. Our player still uses a P19 -getting tougher to find
Is it smart to have different kick point sticks, or should you use the same kick point in both sticks? Sorry if this sounds dumb.
We'll work on this !
Another shout out for All Black Hockey Sticks! Would love to see how they stack up, at $89 it’s all I’ve been using lately.
The best curve imo. I haven’t used pro stock curves, but P90tm is the best of retail
I’m using a Sherwood with a P90 TM blade . I was using a P88 . The curve is not as problematic as I thought it might be my passed and backhand are pretty good . I do have to adjust my blade angle for forehand shots , my snap shots are much harder and more accurate then with the p88 .
1:45 when my goal total goes up from 1 to 2 on the season I consider it a success 😂
Fun fact p88 used to be Patrick kane’s curve who has a basically straight blade and now it’s ovi who has huge hook on his blade lol. The name of the player on the stick does not matter, get the best curve for you
Correct! we have a real Ovi curve and might just make a video on it.
Do a vid on the ft 6 pro when the stick comes out plz because I’m thing of buying 2 of them once they drop!
I‘m using a stick from swift-hockey since last year and it feels great. Pricepoint is about 150$ and I think it is performing great even against sticks that cost double as much!
We'll try check one out
Get a radar gun and test different sticks (either different kickpoints, different price points of a family, and competitors like ribcor vs vapor)
Let's do that!!!
We ordered one last week LOL! That video is coming!
im 5’7 130-135ish i use a 55 flex pastrnak curve custom agent super whippy super light
i would love to experiment but it is soo expensive. i have gotten a few different ones and narrowed it down to a ouple for me pesonally.
I buy what ever is on sale or clearance under $100. 🤷 Sideline swap has sticks as low as $35 U.S.
A spec stick isn't gonna make me play any better.
You're not wrong there. So long as it's a decent curve, correct flex. Cheaper is the way forward.
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial Usually I get an 85 flex with a P92 which are not that all hard to find.
Have you considered fisher brand in any of your reviews, specially y 100 dollar sticks?
I really like All Black Hockey Sticks. They're $89.99 with no branding, but supposedly, they're a high-end stick. I'm not sure if they ship worldwide. Every time I want to try something new in a stick, I get an ABHS because they're really well priced and still very light and a great construction.
We've used them in the past. It would be great to see how they are today. I'll make sure we get some for the affordable stick series
I would like a video on hybrid kick sticks, because it feels good to me but have been using low kick sticks. Wish TRUE made hybrid sticks
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial Wow, in the U.S. and Canada their are multiple shops sometimes within 10 minutes of each other.
I'd like to see the blackout sticks from hockey stick man. Love the content ❤
We'll reach out and see if its possible to get one.
Where can I get a shirt pleasee?
What about a "mega test"?.. do the videos in their rightful sections (low kick, mid kick ect) and then do a separate video, "mega test" mixing the budget sticks with the high end sticks. Give them a ranking and show their price next to it. It'd be very interesting to see what ends up where and how the price reflects that.
I buy top end sticks on steep discount, 55 flex cos I is weedy innit. Some of the best shots I’ve known used cheap sticks. Nice shirt.
I think this would slightly freshen your guys content and cover the whole price line up I mean some people from my league even grab those $50 bauer and warrior sticks from dicks sporting goods so maybe for fun do a video with those super cheap sticks too.
you should do a sync vs trigger 7 pro
maybe you have this already but I'd like to see you do a shoot out with some of these up can coming or off label brands like Hockey stick man, Blade tech, Shift, Twigg......
I still use two piece sticks and one piece none are up to date but it is what I like
try fischer ct950 stick. you can grab it in PL for less tha 90£ it's top end twig from manufacturer, who knows how to treat carbon:)
P38/W16
I can't find the P88 t-shirt on the link.
We're just adding that Tee to the store now. Give it a couple hours and it will be there.
Is the shirt implying p28 is better then p92 and p88 or a mix of both
Take a look at fisher
The brands Instrike and Fischer make affordable sticks. Instrike even produces in Europe, afaik.
Hearing good things about Fischer right now! We might need to take a look
Frankly I dont know if my specs are "correct." I'll try all sorts of different specs. I feel like you need to use that stick for a good 6-8 hours to get a good idea if its correct. Sadly I dont think many will know if our specs are right because the equipment is super expensive. We can't afford to change really.
tests your sticks out for a longer period of time, we need to know the IRL durability of these twigs
Apprehensive to change because of cost
Sick shirt bro
How common is ice hockey in the UK? Not going to lie, initially, the accents took me out of it! The content is top tier though, and I've been coming back ever since. S/O from Ontario, Canada!
i am about 5 ft 4 with a 110 flex cut stick so its actually about 115 120 flex and im around 53 kg
Average Eskate in the house!! I roll my 'zoom stick' like a MF and your videos have been a great resource 🤜🤛 I've never played hockey but I friggin love it. I got one of those saucer game kits for me and my friends to fuck around and have fun. I have learned that hockey stick construction is EF'N complicated and the different blade curve charts make my head hurt. If you can throw me some advice that would be dope❤
separate the videos. thanks for asking
You got it!
Hybrid against mid kick 👍🏼
Hoapa - I'd like to see them plz
My bank account AHHHAHAH
i just click on a random curve
It’s nice and all to know this but I can’t go out and buy a bunch of sticks to try and find the right one
$$$$$$$$$
You guys selling out with all these ads
How do I know my spec is correct? I spend way too much money. Until you get it on the ice, you don't know.
try same stick, different flexes
We need sub $150 usd stick reviews!
that’s what she said 😉
😂😂😂😂 finally !
I know nothing
First ☝️🥸
