Excited to watch this episode. I met Johnny in Tucson Az in 2019 at our local archery range. We bumped into each other in middle of the course and got to talking about elk hunting and my hunt that was coming up in September that year. I told him I had been watching these guys on UA-cam he then told oh ya I’m good friends with Kody. Couple days later we met up for a beer at local bar called Noble hops and it was a really great time and experience sitting down and talking with Johnny. He graciously donated some Vortex gear for our local firefighter memorial charity archery tournament every year in March. What a small world! Super great guy I look forward to having another beer with him and talk more elk someday.
Rob
That’s awesome. Johnny is as good as it gets. Solid human for sure.
Those horses make the same ""NOISES" that the BRO crew does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah those horses were droppin some heaters
Poor Steve would fit right in with the south end bugler. Great great episode I feel like Johnny knows his stuff. Seems like a cool cat to hang with. This should be great.
Last time I was up in the mountains hunting on horseback my brother's horse passed so much gas that the saddle loosened up and it slid around the horse so much my brother fell off. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen, heard and smelled at the same time.
A set of tire chains is like a dog.. your best friend
Carrying them for 28 yrs, used them twice, without them one hunt would have been over in Colo. The other in New Mexico, the Yukon would have been left with the title, signed and left on the dash with a note, merry Christmas to finder.
Super awesome content. Horses look like alot of work
Getting stuck is part of the hunting experience. Although I recommend getting tire chains and winch.
Or the traction mat/board things
@@ShutErDownBud I keep 2 pair in my truck. Life savers for this old goat.
Don Laubach is my neighbor. The old power bugles worked great for a while but the elk around here have definitely figured out to stay away from the sound of them.
Cant beat Kody’s attitude! No matter the situation he keeps it positive. Couldn’t be more impressed.
Johnathan is a dam good hunter, this should be a good series.. should see some hammer down on big bulls
Brings back the old saying. ‘’A Farting Horse Never Tires’’. Heard that on my first elk pack in hunt.
Some Jeremiah Johnson going on here! Love seeing my home state on here. Keep it up fellas. "Watch your top knotch."
The key is to train the horse to come to you, makes things easy.
Indeed, ours usually just walk up to us when we go out in the field. Or come to the barn when we call.
Camera shy
Wasn't hunting --but wood cutting in National Forest outside of Bend, Oregon when my lab and I got stuck. Walked out 7 miles to main road --last 4 miles in dark using light from cell phone to see the logging road I was on. Both my lab and I took it easy for a couple of days.
Getting the truck stuck was just the lord pointing you in the right direction. I've experienced that myself.
Please tell me you asked before bugling from astride that horse......big risk taken there. Pretty country for sure. Looked like the Ruby Valley where you loaded up the horses.
I’ve had a a lot worst nightmares than a truck getting stuck. Looks like you at least found some elk now. That was a nice Bull.
That was a rough day, lol but hey, we got to hear a horse pass gas for about about a half minute or so. Lol
Thank you for mentioning Don Laubach while calling elk in Montana. He's a legend. One of the best elk callers and hunters that ever lived. Feel free to talk about Gordon Eastman as well. He did a lot for the field of filming elk hunting.
The story about the guy walking the elk tracks backwards--you don't know where they are going until you know where they have been...? I was happy to see that the day wasn't a total loss after being stuck! It's been a great season with some seriously awesome encounters already. Hurry up September, I can't wait for you to be here again!
Getting unstuck without an major damage is always a win in my book! Great job keeping it together and showing us the whole story!
Clip starts with horses running away. 10 minutes in "Horses are loose out there eating hay." Hmmm. Loose horses that run from you seems like a bad idea. 😆
I’m sure they had them hobbled.
This year you guys have had Hilton type sleeping accommodations, don’t blame you one bit. Although with 23 plus years in the service I can say my best sleep was always in the dirt with the kidney pad as a pillow.
Thank you for your service!
Thanks for all the great videos and good luck to everyone on black bear Friday. Land of the free is great every day. God bless Born and Raised crew and family stay safe 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
One word, Fortitude. Great effort on the day.
Right on .great video like the the horse back hunting, hope to see more of this type of hunting .
The journey is the adventure, the adventure is in the journey. I love how you guys show all the extra components involved in the hunt. It makes it real and allows the viewers to feel like we are part of the fun.
Great video.
Your hunting strategies have pretty much taken a 180 this year.....in the past it was mostly back pack in and now it's mostly day hunts from a base camp. Gotta say I like the back pack hunts better.
I'm 66 YO with worn out knees and thought this stuff was in my past. Now I think I could do this! Bring it on! I love you guys
I did it last fall at 60, left hip and knee are shot. Bulged disc in my neck. Rest of the crew 10 -15 years younger. 11,400 ft. Average about 4-5 miles a day. Last day, 9 1/2. Already booked back. Bet you have it covered.
I’ve always wanted to take a back country ride on horse back. I need to get out this year and do it!! Great video guys. I have a feeling tomorrow’s episode will be a great one!!!
Our crew does horse packed in drop camps. Awesome
So far this style of hunting is my favorite to watch 👍
Wouldn’t be an elk hunt without some truck and trailer adventures...reminds me of a few years back dumping the generator, shattering it into hundreds of pieces, then discovering a leaking radiator hose while stopped...near the base of the mountain of course. We did kill elk that year though so it’ll get better hopefully!!
I really admire and respect the positive attitudes you all always display
Bow cases are freaking sweet
Backcountry camping and hunting. Finding your wheel house again. Nice episode.
I feel your pain, but there is nothing like riding into your backcountry camp 👍👍
FYI SNOW CHAINS ARE ALSO GREAT IN MUDDY SLIME .... ALWAYS GOOD TO BE PREPARED
Have loved this series! I can't wait to hit the elk woods for the first time at the ripe age of 51. Inspiration!
I have that exact make, model, and even color truck, and you've got to have an aggressive mud tire on it or it will sit and spin in an inch of mud when a trailer is hooked to it. I had Nitto Grappler G2's on it when I figured that out. It got me stuck 3 times in mud that wasn't but 1 to 2 inches deep at the most. The damn mud wasn't even deep enough to cover the little bit of side tread. lol. So I switched to the Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's and never had that issue again. I also installed a 12k. winch on it just in case.
That is a sweet bull! I sure hope you get him.
You guys need to carry tire chains for your truck. Saves a lot of trouble in that greasy mud.
my dad hunted in this way when i was 5 and i have always wanted to do my self but haven't had opportunity to do yet stoked to see tomorrows episode
Congratulations on the win for today. Keep it safe out their.
That was quite the adventure! Can't wait for tomorrow...
Etrailer website for tire chains. Possibly the best customer service I’ve ever received by any company.
Johnny's sitka camo blends in better than that off brand camo kody lol 😂
Man that's probably the biggest bull you've guys have seen all series. So awesome. Those horses are going to make life sweet after you put one down.
i think the new mexico bull was bigger but i not 100% sure
Why would they put a horse down?
@@SteelheadTed i dont even know i wonder if it was a spelling error
You guys are grinding it out this year.
Really fun to see some familiar country! You guys are going to get into em tomorrow!
Man, it would be so dang awesome to have the ability to travel with falls outfit and just take photos of everything y'all see in Christ creation. Such beautiful places y'all see. And really awesome videos guys. thank y'all.
I got stuck this year too except a much different way, way back up in the mountains outside cell service and my starter went out. Luckily some other archers doing the walk of shame got me to town. Kinda sucks solo hunting when things like this happen but it's what we do. Wouldn't trade it for nothing
Need a winch mounted on a front steel bumper and tire chains in the trucks for when ya get stuck.
Those ponies remind me of my grandad with the walkin farts
B&R. Thanks for this Hunt trip , Cody where is your Cowboy Hat? How is the Rookie Camera man Butt? That Bull look like a 300 club ! Go get him.
Nice bull!! Those Falken wildpeaks are not mud tires. Great tires otherwise but the treads fill in and your slipping and sliding. Not sure any tire would work in that sticky stuff. Hell of a day!
Horse trailers can make crappy roads a nightmare. If it wasn’t for multiple trucks I would have been S.O.L in early snow.
Reminds me of my first time hunting Montana. There are some hardy hunters and they get after it. Its hard to get annoyed at hunters on public land when they are hunting that hard.
Into elk, now we're rockin.
First thing I thought was, maybe hook the horses up, pull it out.
Good dudes...love the sense of humor!!
Been there, done that, it sucks!
You related to John Rich Coutu?
@@Dirtymaxxx88 might be, where is he from
@@Dirtymaxxx88 our name is not to common, so I’m sure at some point we are
@@garycoutu6543 Right now he lives in Washington state but I believe he is from Montana as a kid. He's a good friend/coworker of mine thought I'd ask cause like you said the name isn't that common.
@@Dirtymaxxx88 I’m in Washington State as well, western side, if his family originated out of Coutts Canada, which is just over the border from Montana, then yes, we are distant relatives
thats funny i do the same thing with deer summer sausage but i use ritz crackers not wheat thins
We need a go fund me account to help Johnny some new mudder tires for that dodge!! Those pavement tires are not cutting it.
You guys really need tire chains. I've had to chain up pickup and trailer ty get out . And to get in, I know they are a pain to put on but you can go through a foot of snow and keep trailer on road
Traction mats are the way to go! So much better
Awesome guy's 🤙 looking forward to the next video 👍
That sucks but another great video!!
And can't wait to win that black bear hunt!!!
Big bull!! Thanks guys!!
Every year they do the land of the free project their intro music is always fire I want to know if it's like custom music that got wrote and produced specifically for their land of the free projects or if it's from a royalty-free music website like all content creators use on UA-cam so they don't get copyright struck
Tire chains bro.... never leave home without them
I've watched so much b&o I could probably guess who's calling without looking. Kody has that bark 8/10 times
Is that horse's name Steve?
tire chains are a great to have.
Awesome video. Can’t wait for the next
I always hated catching horses!
It’s all organic 😉 Welcome to Montana. It’ll happen.
Battery powered Impact, an 8 lug pickup truck trailer friend!
i like Johnny definitely a cool dood!! what a big bull!!
Bro my sawyer has never even been close to that dirty 😂
Sweet recovery 🙌
JO JO IN VT 💕😄
Ugh he was so nice better luck next time!
Johnny don't know Jack about catching horses.
Yall are about to see this comment alot. Next year apply for a TENNESSEE elk tag. Only 7 tags a year but it will be worth it!!!
If you don't get a flat and get stuck in the mud... Are you really hunting anyways? Great looking bull. Definitely a full day. 👍🏹🦌
Tags on the trailer ......... location spoiler 👌🏼🤠
average weight of a Dodge 3500 truck...7,300# dry weight. Average weight of Oregon BRO elk hunter... 220? I don't think pushing is going to have any effect. : )
Seems like it’s all kody this year, I like the guy but I’m ready for some, Trent, Steve, and some Dirk where is Dirk ?
Gotta love the Dirk!!!
What're ya doin step truck? 😄✌️
Most under rated comment on the video
80 PSI and 10 plies, no traction in the slop. Drop some PSI out of those tires. Drop the to 40 and float that grease. I see you have a viar compressor, excellent for filling air fast. Good to see you hanging with Montana boys. Great content, love how you guys show all the fun of hunting!
Seriously was that Cody or the horse? 💨😖
Man I just got done watching a blast from the past original Colorado hunt from 3 years ago, and I was wondering what happened to Ty??
Career change and moved. I found him on Facebook. Pretty cool guy.
@@tigea9078 thanks man
What is going on with all the dead trees in that area? Not used to seeing that much dead wood in NW Oregon where I am.
Beetle killed pine
Haven’t watched yet but I’m exited
Does the, HORSE SCENT, help or hinder with the wind?
YUR TIRES ARENT MEANT FUR THE MUD lmao ! good video get some MT
Tomorrow's the sweep
Cody what was nastier your Sawyer filter or Jake's mustache?
His mustache no contest
@@bornandraisedoutdoors LOL. Sorry for misspelling Kody's name, but I'm from Wyoming and I'm going to stick with that excuse.
8:30...lazy elk hunters.... :)
I might have a guy that can make your game bags. If interested please let me know.
Flip them mirrors out everyone knows you add traction and hp with the moose horn mirrors
Ps I'll give you some if you stop by and pick them up
Get a winch.
Does anyone know what quiver that is that Johnny is using?
Not lazy gotta sleep in atleast one day
