Does the Chevy Cruze TD have any problems starting cold in the winter?

I'm seriously seriously determined to purchase one, don't know if the over all cost for gas/ upkeep is worth purchasing a diesel. I do lots of mileage to work and travel a bit to see family.

No modern diesels have any problems unless you live in extreme conditions where any car will have problems. However, a block heater always helps.
The exception is extreme high altitude where the thin air causes problems with compression ignition engines. Not a problem unless you're on top of a mountain in Colorado in which case a block heater is needed.

Is a manual transmission an option? How sturdy is the diesel? I remember the passenger car chevrolet diesels in the 70's, they weren't very good.

diesel versions were not bad as compared to crappy petrols

That Cruze clean diesel engine in pain in the ass. With all those
additions to meet EPA rules. First DPF starts driving nuts and second
DEF system. For know reason says Exhaust fluid poor quality. Dealers
cant fix it even after replacing DEF tank and all sensors. Please,
remove all that stuff DPF and DEF and engine will be much better. My
cruze has 48888 miles only and a lot of problems with emissions system.
BAD BAD BAD additions and stupid EPA rules!!!!!!! Go and read all Cruze
diesel FORUMS to know reality what you have done to the diesel
engine!!!!! Don't live in delusional world with EPA.
