I so happily remember this and a number of other segments featuring this pretty gymnast demonstrating concepts.I was born in 1969,and I grew up on "Sesame Street" in the 1970's,the show's first decade.this is classic old school "Sesame Street"at it's best!
The gymnast 'around' clip is now on UA-cam, and it uses the same music as the 'slow' segment (yet to be posted) and the 'Alternate Music between' clip posted.
Yes, I did watch Sesame Street in the early 1980s, even though I was a little old for it. (However, for every episode, I wrote down a log of every segment featured on each show - Not sure if the gymnast was still featured back then.)
@@geraldinekearns8198 that's right Geraldine.I watched the show in the '70's and the gymnatist segment was actually quite common on the show at that time
By the way, they’re all 5 Sesame Street time-lapse shorts of Beginning/End. 1. Kids waiting in line at a movie theater. 2. Barber gives kid a haircut. 3. Man painting a picture. 4. Man eating a hot dog. 5. Woman makes a sandwich.
Wow! I'd been waiting for someone to post a clip with the gymnast. I hope someone posts a few more of them. There was one particular one with music that I can't quite remember the tune of, but as I recall, it was beautiful (might have been "slow", but for some reason, I think it might be "around".
Music on this one sounds extremely similar to the music used on a 1974 Max Factor commercial featuring Jaclyn Smith (on that one, only the tail ending is heard).
ulij20, When I think of it, I think that the music for 'slow' and 'around' might be the same (though I could be wrong). I think I remember all six clips having nice, peaceful music to them (though 'close to-away from' might have been a little more 'energetic-sounding').
Glad to hear that there others who remember and are interested in the gymnast.
Just curious - from 0:25 to 0:33, when the gymnast is swinging on the rope backwards between the pommel horses, is that natural or is the camera in reverse? If the other gymnast clips make it to UA-cam as well, I wonder if there might also be some 'camera tricks' in them as well, now that I'm viewing these with a 'critical eye' 35-40 years later.
I always thought the same song was used for all of the gymnast clips (I vaguely remember the one used for the "between" one, but I thought that was from a different segment, like when they show something like an animal). As I recall, there might not have been music for the "Close to, away" one. But, inasmuch as it's been over 25 years since I've seen these, I don't really remember.
Finally - the gymnast I so fondly remember from the 1970's! There were six such clips (as I recall), which were: 1. Around (pommel horse) 2. Beginning-End (uneven bars) 3. Between (this one, pommel horses) 4. Close To-Away From (rings) 5. Over-Under (pommel horse) 6. Slow (uneven bars routine, slower pace) Again, thanks! Like CGAWLEY, I am also curious who this gymnast was - Olga Korbut, Nadia Comeneci, or someone else? Thanks in advance.P.S. I just found out from Muppet Wiki that there were two more - 'On/Off' and 'Up/Down' - neither of which I have personally seen yet.
If anybody out there could upload the segment of the gymnast demonstrating 'up' and 'down' from Episode 0596 (HBO Max) all by itself, that would be great! Thanks in advance.
@@sharptoothtrex4486 Yes, I know that. However, if someone (Tiny Dancer or otherwise) can post that segment all by itself, that would be great! Thanks in advance.
I remember another gymnast clip with a woman & some kids. she was takling about a red jumpsuit and what was on it. The kids answered things like zippers, buttons, etc. one of them said "pockets" and the woman said,"Pockets, in case you lose your mittens". At the end the woman jumped on a trampoline at the end wearing the red jump suit. I wish I could find this clip. Do you remember it?
ulij20, I'm just wondering - was the last time you watched Sesame Street sometime in the early 80's? For me it was. Just wondering, because all the people who are posting on this one might be in the same general age range. Hopefully no offense - just my guess. Also, I can almost attest that all six clips had some sort of music to them (different tunes, yet something).

I've been searching for the gymnast Sesame clips for a long time now, particularly "Slow." I want to see that bar routine now, as an adult and former competitive gymnast! Did the same blond gymnast do all of them? It drives me nuts I can't identify her. She might have been a US National Team member circa 1970.

That is Heidi Magner's mom. Also known as Deborah Eich Romer from New York State.
Music: Pretty Girl by Johnny Pearson.

I just got a positive ID from someone. That's Debbie in the video!
This was good to see again. I hope to see the other 5 segments.

The gymnast was featured in some skits from the 1970s.

In a similar '70s oldie, a gymnast demonstrated "beginning" and "end" by performing an uneven-bars routine.

Actually, it's possible that the gymnast might be Deborah Romer (Eich from home). I did some research and am 'guessing' that's who it is.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the same gymnast in all eight segments.
That blonde woman is Heidi Magner's mom.
Laurie Hernandez should do the remake of all those classic gymnast segments.
