Who doesn't remember Abe's Oddysee? What a fantastic game! Renowned in its time for doing this differently by offering the player infinite lives with the simple objective of escape (and maybe saving a few guys on the way).
This game will forever be known as one of the greatest platform games of all time.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is a platform video game developed by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by GT Interactive. It was released in 1997 for the PlayStation video game console, DOS and Microsoft Windows in North America, Australia and Europe. The game was released under the title Abe a GoGo (（エイブ・ア・ゴーゴー Eibu A Gōgō?) in Japan for the PlayStation by publisher SoftBank, with a PC version following in 2001. The Game Boy port of Abe's Oddysee, retitled as Oddworld Adventures, was developed by Saffire Corporation and published by GT Interactive in 1998.
The game centers on the titular Abe, a Mudokon slave working at the RuptureFarms meat processing factory on Oddworld. When he discovers that he and his fellow Mudokons are to be slaughtered and processed into the corporation's new product line-up he decides to escape and liberate as many enslaved Mudokons as he can along the way. The player assumes the role of Abe as he attempts escape from the factory in a perilous quest to emancipate his downtrodden people.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee was widely acclaimed for having innovative gameplay, good graphics and engaging cut-scenes; however, its steep learning curve and system of saving only at checkpoints received criticism. It was the first game in the planned five-part Oddworld series, which also includes its direct sequels, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee.
A remake titled Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty! is currently in development by Just Add Water for digital distribution. It will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam at launch.

Maz Hawkshaw it is a very dark game to be fair.. just the art style alone scared the shit out of me, but never loved a game like I did Oddysey and Exodus.

From cutscens to gameplay was so atmospheric..
Just isnt the same today when you go from cut scene to gameplay.. there was something special about these games graphics in cut scenes.
I think it was because the cut scene where good and the in game graphics where similair.

So wait...isn't there something in the gameplay that explains how/why he knows he needs to help the rest of them escape? Like he's sent by their leader or something? Doesn't make any sense that he hears about their plans, and somehow just knows how to help all the rest of them to these bird portals, and how to hypnotize the guards, etc...seems like if it was that easy, they would have done it years ago...

Nevermind the first dude, assholes everywhere plenty more of them around. I get what you mean, but this game really doesn't like to hold your hand and wants you to figure everything out yourself. Most likely testing your morality if you would help someone without being told hence the bad ending. Also they probably could of used the bird portals themselves but it would not be much of a game if they did haha.

Abe's Exodus had more content, more mudokens to save, and some cool new features like quicksave. I will always choose Oddessy over Exodus though, its my favorite. It always brings me that nostalgia.
