Lamb Kofta Curry That WON'T Break The Bank

- Curry night is something we all look forward to, a nice spicy feast and a good film is always a good thing. It can be expensive though, especially if there's a few of you. A couple of dishes each when ordering for a family can really mount up. So I came up with this budget beating lamb meatball curry that costs a fraction of any takeaway. You can actually make this even cheaper if you want, by swapping the lamb mince for pork or beef. This lamb meatball curry will feed 3 people with sides maybe 4 if you have smaller appetites.
#kofta #curry #costofliving
To make my lamb meatball curry you will need:
For the meatballs
►500g of lamb mince
►2 tsp ground coriander
►2 tsp ground cumin
►1/4 tsp of chilli powder
►2 tsp ginger garlic paste
►Salt
For the sauce
►1 large red onion
►1 medium sized courgette
►1x400g can of chopped tomatoes
►2 tsp of ginger garlic paste
►1 tsp turmeric
►2 tsp ground coriander
►1 tsp chilli powder
►2 tbsp garam masala
►1 bay leaf
►A small handful of fresh coriander stalks and leaves
►Salt
►2 tbsp of oil for cooking
Serve with rice, roti or in this case a hoofing great naan!

What's your favourite curry?
Jalfrezzi but this looks super tasty too
Mine has always been chicken curry with a little potato and carrot and onion
Chicken madras 😋
My wife and I have become quite fond of your potato curry recipe. Would love to see you do a Durban bunny chow.
@@Mike_5 love a jalfrezi
Lovely once again Adam. Hope you’re both keeping well and so glad you got your fridge. Give Mogs a big cuddle and a kiss on that little paw. Much love as always to you both xx
Thank you Sarah. I gave him scritches for you x
Love Adam and Muggs ❤️
When I try to make curry, it’s very hit and miss, but I’ll follow this recipe and keep my fingers crossed 🤞 thanks Adam 👍
Mostly it's about knowing how the spices work. For instance too much turmeric and it taints the whole thing and becomes bitter. Also making sure you cook them out enough but careful not to burn them. Practice makes perfect, you'll get there mate
@@Adam_Garratt Completely. I think of alot of people forget garam is a finishing mix since it's already toasted and can make a dish bitter if you mess up
Yay on the new fridge!! 🎉 Just wanted to say hi before I pop off to work. Will watch while I'm driving to work 🤣 just kidding!!! Give Mogs a kiss!
🤣🤣
Looks fab !!! why am I watching this though I’m on a diet 😂
gowaaarn treat yo self!
first of all I just found you from the review you did of the air fryer lol. I’m ordering it from Amazon tomorrow. You have serious talent and a knack for social media. I’m shocked you don’t have a huge following. start a TicTok account. Do these recipes quickly then direct them all to UA-cam for more comprehensive videos. You are humble. You can’t fake it. I’m really enjoying your affordable series. In fact I far prefer it over your other videos. It’s because this seems to bring out your personality. You’re hilarious and I love it!! Losing your job was definitely a sign from the universe to make content full time. Expand onto other platforms. I think a great idea for a series is making affordable dinners for living alone. Teaching young people these recipes and how to freeze them. ❤ I’m in Toronto 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Aww thank you Maggie, that was lovely to read! Appreciate you x
Thanks to you eating well is a lot easier and faff-free. Good luck with the new fridge.
Happy to help my friend
Nice one mate
Cheers Andrew
You’ve made me hungry brother 🤤
Thanks mate
I want to thank you. The thought of making authentic curry at home to me was never possible until I found your channel. Even my fussy wife is impressed so again I thank you for showing us how easy it really is to cook home made food and for cheap. Your an amazing person Adam thank you 🙏
Aww no problem mate. Glad you both enjoyed it
That opening shot was beautiful, so is your presentation at the end.
The Hulk's what? 🤣
I'm playing around with different filming styles to make the videos more slick and streamlined. And yes you heard correct Jim 🤣

This looks amazing!
Looking forward to whacking this one up soon - thanks mate... Legend!
I love this recipe!! I'm not a big curry lover but I would eat this.
Thanks Adam. Just tried this. Turned out beautiful
That's absolutely gorgeous! I'm making some tomorrow, doing some quick prep today. I add some chopped spinach to mine. I'm also going to make a tzitziki or tahini sauce (or both!) on the side. Roasted carrots and potatoes, rice, na'an, I suppose somethikng will hit right, lol.
Looks Ace Adam thx for sharing 🍻🌶️🌶️

I can't wait to try this recipe. I went on a cruise and had the most deliicous lamb kofta curry that looks so similar to this.

Hi Adam, Just discovered your channel and is quite refreshing from the GR and JO videos I've watched. It's nice to see someone cook in a normal sized kitchen for a change. You always have very useful hints and tips to help us. Food looks lush, you look lush and the cats very cute. What's not to like. BTW, chuffed you have a working fridge again 🙂 Look forward to more from you.
Thanks mate, and also a big welcome to the channel ☺️
That looks lush as usual Adam xx

Just finished this wonderful meal and it was everything that I expected.... was perfectly paired with an IPA!

I love curry too, I made a tofu curry because I couldn't find paneer, I'll give this a try, thanks!!

I thought you said your new fridge was going to be a black one in colour good video adam.
I thought I did. turns out I didn't 🤣
great job mate👍👍👍

Looks good Adam! Happy for you you got your fridge. I love a good curry but I have to say my absolute favourite is Thai green chicken curry!
I haven't had that in aaaaages. Must make it again soon 😋
Happy new fridge Adam.
Another good vid, one I will try tomorrow night. That will please the MRS 🤣 not.

Awesome video
Thank you 😊
That looks awesome, and so easy to make, thank you for another cheap nourishing meal. BTW I made your sweet and sour chicken balls with egg fried rice last night, and the family said it was better than any Chinese takeaway they had eaten..so thanks for that as well..love to Moggs
Glad to hear it Jane 😚
Mmmm!!! Yum yum Adam, this looks beautiful. If I cut back in the spices I may be able to eat this, I love curries, I used to be able to eat them 🥵🥵🥵 but those days are long gone. I’m looking forward to trying this one.
So glad you got your fridge/freezer, such a pain when the old one doesn't work 😃
Tell me about it lol
Fantastic recipe that one. To be tried in the week I think. Cheers 🍻
Hope you enjoy
Thanks Adam, your recipe was lovely. I added three finely chopped spring onions to the meatballs that I had leftover from another recipe. I didn’t have a courgette so I sub it for chopped mushrooms. My husband was very happy with this dish. I think it will be a regular meal in our house.
I should have put some swap outs up really, but glad you found something to substitute Lesley. X
Perfect timing. It’s supposed to get very cold so a solid ruby will go down a treat. Thanks Adam.
You're welcome bud, hope you enjoy it
Lovely jubbly, that’s tonight’s dinner sorted. Cheers from a Brit living in Aus 👋😃
My sister moved to perth a couple of years ago, hope you are living a good life out there. I couldn't, the heat would do my head in 🤣
@@Adam_Garratt I can understand that. I’m also in Perth! 18 years now and the heat in Summer does my head in but still love here 😄. Oh! Made the curry last night and it was great 😋, shall be having the leftovers for lunch I think even though it is going to be 35 degrees again today 🥵🤣
Congratulations on the new fridge! Thanks for the new curry recipe, can't wait try it. Btw, I'm still enjoying your new recording equipment.

mouthwatering, thanks for sharing my dear new friend,
You're welcome 😁
Hello there, Mr. Adam! This dish looks wonderful! AND loving the new fridge. LOL! Hope you were able to turn the other one into your beer fridge. OR throw it on it's back and fill it up with ice and chill the beer that way!
Which curry is my favorite? Well, to be honest, I've not had much luck with trying different curries. About the only thing I can think of that I've put curry in is that chicken Rice-a-Roni recipe, and when I add it to the yolk mixture when I make deviled eggs. Those two are really good. Alas, I will venture out and try to prepare these other types of curries, even though I am more of an umami, garlic, spicy sort of person. 😉
Thank so much for the video and recipe! Give Mr. Mogs a hug and squeeze for me! Love it when he chats at you about making him some dinner! 😻
Take care and be safe! ☺💖🙏
Hey Lisa x. Well luckily the delivery guys took the old one away so I didn't have to deal with it. Mog's is currently devouring his breakfast so I'll give him a squeeze for you in a bit ☺️
Definitely going to make this. Just need tye spices and nann.
Never thought of having meatballs in a curry but that looked really nice I think I'll try that
Kofta curries are amazing, try it
Thanks
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice one young man
Cheers David mate
Another delicious recipe Adam . I too like a mild curry . Good to see you have a new fridge . What would we do without them .
I've certainly missed it Mary lol, now I need to fill it with stuff
Once again Adam this was fab thankyou , I cut and minced a shoulder of lamb and loved this dish served with basmati rice , My meatballs were a little dry maybe i overcooked so cant wait to try again
Good to hear mate. It could be that there wasn't enough fat in the lamb. What you can do to mitigate that is add a handful of breadcrumbs. They will soak up whatever fat there is and keep them juicier.
@@Adam_Garratt Again great info buddy i cut all the fat out , Il try again with that info , hope job searching is going ok mate
Absolutely love this, koftas give so much flavour and putting them in a curry is a great idea. Where'd you get the naans? Those are hefty! Cool camera work while you were chopping btw 👍🏻
The naan was from my local foreign supermarket. The brand is called the golden spike & sun bakery. Super soft and delicious mate.
Have a wonderful weekend Adam! It’s my birthday tomorrow so dinner with my daughter and grandsons ❤️ Making sour cabbage rolls today. Happy cooking!
Well a big happy birthday 🎂 for tomorrow Shirley! X
@@Adam_Garratt Thank you Adam! XO
new subscriber, I like your recipes and accent.❤
Hiya Lina! Welcome 😊
I made this with ikea meat balls and it worked well.
Curry isn't really a thing over here in Belgium, but this one looks really delicious and inviting. I'll give it a try. Cheers Adam!
You are right it is not the thing in Belgium and when I made Cowboy Chili there they looked at me odd. Lol!
Heck yeah 👍🏼❤️
You know it makes sense Aunty Brenda x
@@Adam_Garratt going to see if I can find a bit of ground lamb if not then beef ones in the slow cooker to finish.
Years ago we never put cheese in the fridge anyway. Kept under the lid of a cheese dish. Sometimes you'd get a bit of mould which you scraped off. I survived!
Also, wrap cheese loosely in saved cereal 'paper'. Stops it drying out and is better than using clingfilm.
Don't worry, it never lasts long enough to need wrapping anyway. Cheese is dangerous near me 🤣
Incredible hulks willy🤣...............you do make me laugh Adam = you should be on daytime TV doing cooking slots on programs like Stefs packed lunch, go on I dare you to send some of your you- tube vids to the production team, BTW another great recipe mate.
haha glad you noticed that. I'd love my own show! I have been invited on TV a few times, but it hasn't been a right fit for me.
Délicieux certain 😀
Merci!
Glad to see that your new fridge has arrived. My Beko is about 15 years old and is still going strong (touch wood). Poor old Mogs was looking forward to some lamb meatballs.
Oh he gets ravenous as soon as raw meat is around haha.
Incredible hulk’s Willy 😂😂😂😂
My favourite curry is a meatball. I use a recipe from Madhur Jaffrey's cook book, but i use pork instead of lamb. Its a bit longwinded but delicious. Im going to try your one as its not so time consuming and looks great. Thank you.
You're welcome 😁
Hmm I'm not really a fan of courgettes in a curry (not that I'll say no), but I would sub in a red pepper and some spinach (the frozen stuff is fine for curries IMO and very cost effective).
Yep peppers would work great. I'm not a huge fan of courgette either, but in this they soak up flavours really well so I don't mind. On there own they are a bit rubbish aren't they 🤣
This could be one of my top 10 fave recipes you’ve done! I can’t wait to make it! How much fat was in your lamb mince? In the US our lamb mince is always so fatty like 80/20 and it’s like $10/lb. I’m curious what you use. Thanks!
We are a lamb rearing nation so we get a lot of choice here. Salt marsh lamb is excellent, but we can also get mutton and hogget if we look for it. There was a bit of fat but you can drain some off if needed
Very glad to see you have a brand new fridge. I believe we have Beko here in Aus. Out of curiosity why didn't you add coconut cream? The executive chef must have been tormented by the smell of the lamb.....
You could add that if you wanted. Would make a nice addition
My mother's plain beef Durban style curry with roti or turmeric rice. With fresh curry leaves for added flavor, coriander/dhaniya is a must. Its all in the curry spice mix for best flavor, heat medium hot but chillies on the side 🌶️♨️😳
Hi Adam, great video as usual! May I ask where you bought that huge Naan bread please? 🌶️
I got it from my local foreign supermarket, but I imagine they sell them in other places. The naan itself was really good and pillow soft. The brand is called the golden spike & sun bakery
Chicken and king prawn balti but I like it dry and loads of garlic.
Love that mouth watering cofta.
I can't get enough of garlic. It's so nice. Something I like to do i roast a whole chicken with 2 whole bulbs of garlic. Then squidge out the roasted cloves and mash them into a paste and make a garlicky herby gravy. I'll just eat the whole chicken to myself and dip it in the gravy like an animal haha
@@Adam_Garratt have you tried the roast beef cheese and chillie chutney toastie yet. You will love it !
@@helentew6393 not yet but its on my list to try
@@Adam_Garratt will you do the tasting on UA-cam?
Never tried a lamb Ruby Murray Adam, looks delicious & once again you have explained it superbly, love your spice kit, must try this but need spices first.Much better than paying a fortune for a takeaway Adam, and healthier as you know what's going in & you get more in quantity at the end of the day, could I freeze this and make a big batch?
Cheers mate. A tio for you when buying spices, which mentioned in previous videos as well. Don't buy from supermarkets as they are a rip off. Go online or better still go to your nearest Asian store. You'll get them cheaper, and better quality. An example, is I bought a 70g bag of bay leaves for £1.65, whereas a small 10g pot from the supermarket was £2. And all I do is decant into tupperware containers and what I need for my spice tin. Or if it's a small bag, I just fold it over and pop a clothes peg on it. And yes you can freeze it. I buy those little takeaway containers from the poundshop and portion it out, then thaw when I want a meal and reheat
@@Adam_Garratt Thanx for that great advice Adam,I will go to my nearest Asian stores they are not that far,and might get 1 of those spice containers you have also.Great tips Adam, and happy new fridge.
@@dominicwilkinson5417 If you can't find the tin, just ask for a masala dabba tin. Usually between £5 - £10. Another tip, label the little pots with what you put in them else you might forget and can't identify them, especially if you're new to spices. As for spices to keep in it, you can put in whatever but I use the staples. Cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, garam masala, chilli powder. Any spares you could add cloves, whole cardamon, mustard seeds, whatever you like
@@Adam_Garratt Brilliant Adam I am jotting all this info down, big help that is regarding masala dabba tin and spices.Cheers!!
My lot don’t like lamb. The good thing is I’ve got all the ingredients swopping lamb with beef….and will serve it with rice…. That’s tomorrows tea sorted….thanks Adam…
Hope you all enjoy it mate. Have a great Sunday evening pal

Ps Tidy looking fridge...My Beko lasted 25 years!
Hi Adam, I've just caught up with your latest video, (I've been busy this morning), and I just wanted to tell you that Lamb Mince at my local supermarket is $AU7.50, (about £4.21) for 500g, so for once, the Aussie price is a little bit cheaper than the UK price! 😁
BTW, what a great looking dish, mate! 😋 I might have a go at this myself in the not-too-distant future. 👍🏻😋
That's a really good price for lamb!
@@Adam_Garratt It sure is, mate. I was actually very surprised to find it when I checked my local supermarket's website.
Just had an 'anglo-indian vindaloo' (mild, interesting) and sag bhaji with my daughter - and the same naan. That is the only brand of naan that I would recommend to anyone, so much better than anything I can get in local supermarkets - I have to go to a south asian shop in Bedford for them. A rare treat. Recommended to anyone who can get that brand locally. (Edited: not south indian but south asian - I think its Pakistani or Bangladeshi run, like the restaurants)
Literally the best pre made naan I've had in ages. So soft and fluffy
Looks good! Lamb is not my favourite protein but I am a big fan of curry as I’ve likely mentioned several times 😎 nice fridge!
Is it because of the fattiness or the taste? I've found with a lot of people I've spoken to they say it's the fat.
@@Adam_Garratt I’m not sure. I’m not sure … It was quite a while back. Now that I have experimented more in the kitchen I think I’m going to give it another go. Maybe with this recipe.
@@shirleyfrederickson4794 I make a meatball curry very similar to Adams, but I substituted the beef with pork mince. much cheaper and more tender with less fat.
@@lenagreen4031 thanks Lena, yes Adam said one could use another mince. I’ll be trying it one way or another 😎

Beko is good stuff! got my electric cooker from them, works very well! (And my Fridge too. but that thing is a bit older now)
I'm really happy with it, and it doesn't form a huge iceberg at the back of the fridge like my stupid old one
@@Adam_Garratt Be weary of the little (green) plug int he bag, if not kept clean, you get a plant growing in there. Horror i had to deal with, keep it clean!
Errr..... Mr. Garratt;
If you make a large curry/casserole and then "portion" (I hate that effing word) it in Ziploc bags, that's food for months later you can freeze.
OH!!!!! If there's roadworks going on, I recommend "borrowing" a 2'x2' concrete slab for cooling.......
One to save!
I know that you said parsley in error, but it can be an acceptable substitute (in flat leaf form) for coriander (cilantro for the USA), especially for those who can't stand it because it tastes like soap to them.
True that Neil. I love the stuff, but I know people that bork at the thought of it
Looks nice man, my other half is a native of India and she makes the most amazing chicken curry, but doesn’t eat lamb or beef so won’t make anything involving them - yet she also gets a bit touchy if I attempt to make a curry, so I’m walking a tight rope with this one, but I think I shall have it sneakily alone one evening as I love lamb. P.s we have the same kettle 😂
Please don't show her this video, I don't want her to yell at me 🤣. Make it and eat it in the garage with the lights off 😂
Love a good ruby...
I'm lucky that here in Leicester i'm spoilt for choice. I've got maybe 5 decent curry houses within 2 minutes walking distance from my flat
@@Adam_Garratt I'd be the size of a house within weeks lol.... I could eat curry everyday.😋
@@Ant-dx8yt same man same. I've always said that if I became vegetarian, Indian food would be a staple. They have amazing vegetarian dishes and you don't miss meat at all
I set out to make this and measured out the ingredients for the sauce.
Two tablespoons of garam masala looked like quite a lot so it didn't all go in.
You can always put a bit more in at the end but you can't take it out.
Turned out ok but the lamb mince I got from Aldi was shite and not buying that again.
Lamb mince can be hit and miss from Aldi I've found.
Koefte or arab Kefta is lengthwise rolled, not round. But if you like it. do it.
There's a restaurant near me that makes Turkish kebab skewers and my god they are really good.
mint would have been nice in the meatballs
Which spices go in here 4:19? I count 5 but only 4 spices left from ingredients list: Turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, 2 tbsp garam masala, bay leaf.
Good spot! I missed out the coriander on the list so i've edited it in. Thank you!
