  • This is part 2 of the 170ft Fir prune and Hemlock removal job.
On day 2 we remove 2 stone dead trees. This is another great training day for Tom and Conor, and hopefully for you too! Hear our full conversation over the headsets about our rigging strategy, when and how to tip tie trunk wood, using a tag line to control the wood, plus a whole lot more to learn from our discussions. On jobs like this efficiency and flow is the key to a successful job.

As someone just starting out in the game in the UK at the ripe old age of 55, my anxiety was through the roof with this job you just did...Those logs swinging over the roof were making me very uncomfortable...I'm a mountaineering instructor by trade so know about bits n pieces of kit...Im surprised youre using a dyneama sling (low melting point) to choke onto the logs you were lowering...Assuming you've never had one fail?
BTW many thanks for all your instructional videos, they have helped me gain a better understanding of the work as well as reassuring me (especially after listening to you guys chat things through on this video) that we are going through similar discussions to solve potential problems...Dan you are very entertaining and easy to watch and there is a notable change in your confidence in front of the camera. Cheers Cliff (Teesside)

@climbing arborist thanks a lot for sharing this. Me as a tree faller being new to climbing, that is really helpful!! Sometimes I wonder why no one uses these long hooks to handle the big wood on the ground. Pretty handy.
    All the best

Try swaping the direction of the wraps of the rigging rope in the porty it will twist the line the opposite way and de-huckle it

Always a pleasure watching and much information to get...
A question: at 11:15 you're cutting off a piece of the fungus. Is this a way to get some infos about the general state of the stem section you're about to climb?

I like the container by the port r wrap to keep rope free of twigs in a thick area.

I know a couple of old timers who would claim to know it all. Im finding there’s a weird batch of arborists out there who think their done learning. I really can’t stand them.
