The way it works is that you have one phone with the helium app (one app). You do not need to be near the miner with your phone after the initial setup because the miner connects to a source of internet like a gateway or a modem. You connect the miner to the gateway or modem via. WiFi or Ethernet cord, either of them will work. Some people set-up their miners at home by connecting the miner to the internet, letting them sync to the blockchain, and then send the miner to a different location. At that location you would have someone plug the miner into power, connect the ethernet cord, and you would assert the location from far away. It works!

I will appreciate your answer, I am worried if the support would not give me a solution
You can't just change the antenna to to change the frequency range of the hotspot miner. You will need to change the hotspot and the best way to do that is to contact Bobcat.
Your $HNT will automatically go into your helium wallet. Then you can transfer your $HNT from your helium wallet to your Binance wallet to convert to $USD. You can open a Binance account using this link: accounts.binance.us/en/register?ref=53094901
If you're trying to optimize the location, can you make it redo the witness detection? Lastly, if the bobcat loses power or internet does it take 48 hr to resync?

There are a couple of web sites that help you make the calculation. There is a beta web site for Helium Explorer. I can't seem to copy the link and then Hotspot RF .
This unit was in that location for a bit of time in a community with 3 other miners (not mine) that did not have outdoor antennas (that was a long time ago, like 6 months ago!). I only kept it in that location for a few weeks then moved it to a different state and it's bounced around at other locations. It's done about 300 $HNT. This unit at the current $HNT price, has made about $10,000
Bobcat recently launched a new, really easy, payment method using coinbase. Take a look at this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/NJJQ4mcVCS4/v-deo.html
Don't jump right into the 8 dBi antenna. I'm finding lately that 5.8 might perform better with tall trees and hills and buildings. I'm using 8 dBi in the outskirts, but 5.8 in-town. Also... that 4 dBi antenna is a really nice starter antenna. I'd get all six going with the stock antenna. It's not rated for outdoor use but I use it at a couple of sites outside and it might not last forever but long enough. I have a site with the Bobcat 4 dBi (high elevation house) and it connects to like 20 other miners.. some 40 miles away. The key, regardless of antenna dBi, is antenna HEIGHT... (by far the best approach is to get the antenna above the houses and if possible, above the trees). Good Luck!
Thanks again for another helpful video. In the last step, “Set Hotspot Location”… any idea if you can set a miner location other than where you are at the time of setup? Hey, I jus set up a second one and it's not showing up either. I'm hoping I didn't do anything wrong. The first one was so easy I am wondering how I messed this up.
Great question! The reason is because of the rules that were created for the proof-of-coverage rewards. I have ordered 17 of them, and I will be putting them in remote locations without wifi, do you think you can set them up at your home location for the 48 hour period, then transport them to the location that will be their final destination? Since I have ordered so many I just figured it would be quicker and easier to set each one up at home rather than in a random place
@@treyhelium9592 if you want to move your hotspot it wil cost abouts 80 bucks
Thanks so much for all your efforts, you are very kind I- have installed my BOBCAT minner and its all synched, but the strenght is a little low, can i move the miner to the LOFT? Will i be charged 10$ for moving it, it is in the same house, but i AM nio sure?
There is no window in the loft, will this be an issue?
No, you can move the miner anywhere you want on your property. Inside, outside, side yard, unless you live on a very large estate, you should be fine.
Thank you for a great video Mike! Very simple and to the point. Very informative. Excellent tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
Is it possible to connect the miner to a (Bluetooth) Android tablet instead of a cell phone?
Yes
So I can mine with my phone ? I don’t need a computer??
You will mine with the helium hotspot and monitor the hotspot with your phone.
Do they use any Huawai components????
I'm not aware if they publish supplier details, possibly you could send a note to Bobcat's support address.
Hello mister i have a question, i bought by mistake the version "US" cause i am living in Madrid (sent e-mail to support) my question is if it can be adapted with an antenna that has the correct frequency (868mhz) in my region. I will appreciate your answer, I am worried if the support would not give me a solution
You can't just change the antenna to to change the frequency range of the hotspot miner. You will need to change the hotspot and the best way to do that is to contact Bobcat.
@@on-chain.nation Thank you for the answer, yes i sent e-mail to bobcast support, i am waiting them
Once the minder is setup , how do you allocate where the HNT earnings will be deposited? In a specified wallet?
Your $HNT will automatically go into your helium wallet. Then you can transfer your $HNT from your helium wallet to your Binance wallet to convert to $USD. You can open a Binance account using this link: accounts.binance.us/en/register?ref=53094901
If you're trying to optimize the location, can you make it redo the witness detection? Lastly, if the bobcat loses power or internet does it take 48 hr to resync?
Witnesses are always updating automatically. If you loose power for 48 hrs it might take a few hrs ! 1 day to catch up to the block chain. If you just power off for a short period your miner won't likely fall out of sync.
@@on-chain.nation Do I have to power up and set the location of the device at the same exact spot or can I power up/sync it in the house and take it outside later in the yard for the install?
Please for the Bluetooth step , is it used just for the pairing or we have to keep the Bluetooth on for ever ?!
Just for set-up and diagnostics and future changes for WiFi.
@@on-chain.nation thanks
Do you need to use port forwarding when setting up the miner?
It is best to set up the miner first and then check for RELAY. Then set your port forwarding.
Please help if you can! I spent 2k on a bobcat to start mining before the halving and all I get is an onboarding error message.
You should submit a ticket to Bobcat.
Will it mine, if the Bluetooth device paired with the miner leaves the area?
Oh yes, you only need the Bluetooth for setup and diagnostic checks.
@@on-chain.nation thanks
Do you have to purchase a licence like the planet watch devices?
Helium requires you create an account to register your miner which includes a wallet to hold $HNT.
I have a problem that I hope to help me to fix it. I'm trying to pairing my bobcat miner 300 with my phone . It said Device xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx was disconnected. How I can solve it?
Where did you get the miner? Factory direct, Ebay, Amazon?
how do you know that it is working? It doesn't show up in the app? I have a miner already, this would be my second one.
When you set the location, How accurate do you have to be? I am still waiting for my miners but I am going to insert them before I send them off to my friends house.
I would like to know this as well. Can you set these up and then send them to friends and family or do you have to set them up at the location they will live?
@@aaronlane5000 It is better that is rlly accurate but when you want swich rooms you can do that
And how are you storing the HNT direct to a wallet or Coinbase type?
When you install the Helium application on your phone and RETAIN your 12 secret words.... you will have created your helium wallet. You can keep your $HNT in that wallet or send it to your binance.us account. Your choice.
@@on-chain.nation ok cool, and how much does the bobcat do a day on avg, obviosly depending on other nodes?
Does anyone know if I can move my bobcat to a different location?
Yes, you can. The function is in the application, look for the gear icon in the upper right.
Can it be used for mining in Canada!?
Thank you!!!
Yes you can!
It would like to test home than I change address in a week, is that possible? So first low building home but In a week want to go to a different locating higher building? Is it possible before I register it
Yes, you can change the location. It does cost DC's though.
do u have to leave ur phone bluetooth on even after pairing it?
No, the phone is not needed this be kept connected via Bluetooth.
Can you send me the link to the video of the business acquisition you made to be able to set it up in that location
Did you need to pay an assert location fee the first time I didnt see that in the video
First time, no, after that, yes.
Needed to connect the hotspot to the internet for at least an hour for OTA updates prior to connecting to the app.
How did you know to do this and what is the benefit? Sounds very interesting. Does it make the sync to blockchain faster?
@@on-chain.nation Bobcat sent a “5 onboarding steps” email before they arrived and this was #1. Not having the latest FW update could cause sync or other startup issues I suppose.
Can the business (that has physical access to hotspot), reset it for their own use? What recourse if the hotspot is stolen?
No, they can’t reset it without your involvement. As far as theft... the thief could not use the device.
Can i remotely connect to my hotspot? I am in another country to my hotspot, have a friend setting it up
You can only go remote if you are on the network.
security seems to be an issue that strikes my mind. So it uses your internet connection to provide hotspots to whom? Helium subscribers? random folks within your radius? I have so many questions.
The hotspots provide a network connection to devices that purchase data credits from helium. Specifically IoT devices.
any 1 know if the bobcat miner anthenna is waterproof?

Yes, helium names them :)

Hi! Thanks for this video. I noticed that you didn’t talk about port forwarding or static IP’s, how important are they?
Should definitely open up your ports and put in to DMZ
@@tylerparker9906 So it's not really plug and play? I'm hoping to send one of these to my cousins place and he is not very technical. What are the repercussions if we don't forward ports?
@@mikieca it could be plug and play, all depends on if the Hotspot is relayed or not.
You slight covered it but how safe is it for using your network? Is there anyway someone can access my network and information from our wifi
No to my knowledge. I have been told this is completely safe.
Thumbs up man. U broke it down to the teeth
Great!
Does the light on the miner stay yellow while it is synching? Mine was green on the miner for a few moments but is now yellow. In the app and on Explorer, the miner is green and synching but on the miner itself, the light is still yellow.
What is your status today?
@@on-chain.nation It varies from day to day. It randomly goes offline or drops behind on the Blockchain, even though it's connected to rock solid, high speed Internet. I need it to operate remotely off of a hotspot but I can't even get it to operate correctly at home. Unfortunately it's been a massive time suck and a huge waste of cash.
Great video! Quick question if we should be at least 300 meters away from each other is it not wise to buy a few bobcats and have them in one room?
You will not want to have multiple units together in the same room or in the same building. The units must be at least 300 meters apart.
Great video! I love the information you've been providing! Do you know anything about the people who are renting out cell towers and connecting their miners to them in order to cover massive areas. The highest producing miner that I have seen so far that does this is earning around 88 HNT per day.
How long does it take for the "registering hotspot" to finish?
About 5-15 minutes
Can I have multiple miners if they are in different locations? Like one at home and one at the office??
Great question Joseph, YES you can have as many miners as you would like. The phone application will show a list of all the miners you register under your account, and you can select each miner individually to see performance, stats, etc...
@@on-chain.nation thanks man, I ordered 2 of them

Thank you very much for this video. My bobcats arrived without a pin to push in the bt button. And I could not figure it out untill I watched your video. I got my bobcats yesterday I orderd them last Aug took a long time. So I guess it takes up to three days before it’s all set to mine?
Great!
Love your videos Mike, keep it up
Thanks 👍
Could someone tell me how it works? For example, if I live in Central America and there are no more people who have this miner, would I still make a profit or should there be more people who have this same miner? Could someone tell me and how much would I earn daily
You will need numerous miners in your area to be profitable.
There are a couple of web sites that help you make the calculation. There is a beta web site for Helium Explorer. I can't seem to copy the link and then Hotspot RF .
How did you get the miner, I purchased my one almost 6 months ago and it hasn’t arrived yet.
Early adopter, very early.
So hows it going...making HNT?
This unit was in that location for a bit of time in a community with 3 other miners (not mine) that did not have outdoor antennas (that was a long time ago, like 6 months ago!). I only kept it in that location for a few weeks then moved it to a different state and it's bounced around at other locations. It's done about 300 $HNT. This unit at the current $HNT price, has made about $10,000
Bobcat recently launched a new, really easy, payment method using coinbase. Take a look at this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/NJJQ4mcVCS4/v-deo.html
I purchased six of them to place around family friends, family, etc. Do you recommend getting a specialized 8dbi antenna? I live in the suburbs.
Could you help with a few question.
1. Which version (US & Europe) to choose if I live in Asia?
2. Can we use Binance to buy instead of Coinbase?
I am receiving miner hotspots at my home, setting them up on my account, then mailing them to family out of state to host. Will I need to be present with my phone/Bluetooth to reconnect the miner to their WiFi in the new location (I really don’t want to have to travel 1000+ miles if I don’t have to).
Unfortunately you will need to be present at the time of install for location assertion.
@@on-chain.nation, I just read that you can set the hotspot up under your Helium app/wallet, then can have a host connect to the miner using the “Helium Hotspot Utility” app to update location and WiFi, without accessing your Helium app wallet info. Looks promising.
did you find the solution? I've decided to set up the location later in settings, but cannot find those settings. Please help if you know)))
@@on-chain.nation there is an option "set up the location later" - I've chosen that. Now I cannot find a place where to fix this. Please help me find the way to set up location (the syncing process is on, but im not sure if I did right)
After getting HNT, how do you get paid?
You send the HNT from your helium wallet to your Binance wallet and then sell for USD.

Hi, I ordered a Bobcat 300. How much more range could I get if I otdered an 8dbi antenna to go with it.
Will it complete syncing without paying the 10$ fee? How do you pay the 10$ set up fee?
Yes, the hotspot manufacturer pays the set-up fee.
Why does the miner has to be 300 meters away from each other? I'm new to this and would like more information
Great question! The reason is because of the rules that were created for the proof-of-coverage rewards. They want the network to be evenly spread out across the country not all lumped together in some warehouse somewhere. That is the unique aspect of the helium network that supports participation. It's a good thing!
Hey Helium Street, I set up one bobcat at my house and then another one at my friends (a lot further away). When I was setting up the second one, the hotspot name didn't show up in my app... any suggestions?
Is is showing now?
