  • Join me as I take a lesson with PGA Tour coach, Shauheen Nakhjavani. Shauheen works with dozens of tour professionals and is a great follow on social media. After struggling for the last couple of months I decided that it was time for a second opinion and booked a session with him. It was a very eye opening experience. Enjoy!

Some more content or concepts that might help you visualize or feel exactly this, is some stuff that Elite Golf School posts on their UA-cam etc. You could use some pelvis "dissociating" feels and just as he said, feeling like your chest can get more on top and cover... what hes essentially teaching you here is to just get you to rediscover some space in your swing. Youre doing great!!!

When Arnold Palmer would work on a grip change, he would always keep a club in hand when at home, just getting used to the new grip. He would do this for several days in a row.

Love this type of content but would be great if you could share the trackman screen so we can see the results. You can see txg fitting videos for content example
    Keep it up !!!

@@JfTalbot23 Hi JF, I’m a big fan of the way TXG produces their content. However, TXG have their fitting area set up like a production studio with all of the necessary equipment to perform the screen captures, etc. Unfortunately I can’t just walk into someone else’s studio and start installing software on their PC’s.
Thanks for the feedback. I will try to find ways to make the content more engaging if I have make more of these types of videos in the future.

I thought that your swing in the latter part of this lesson in general looked more like the famous Griffon 220+ carry with a 6-iron one. I believe that if you examine that swing, you'll find that you were getting more stacked and moving left with the downswing but with the stronger grip, you could probably really get the clubhead behind the hands and release it like crazy. Not necessarily the greatest when you're trying to control your speed but could be useful for really long shots, assuming you're able to move your grip around and not be affected too much. I'm a fan of the changes, in particular because I think that they'll help counter the fact that your trail elbows tends to get deep so early in the backswing which I think can be a bit of a wild card in the golf swing, being maybe too timing dependant.
True story that sounds like a fairy tale. I had never had a lesson in my life when I was 21 (1980) but the company tournament was coming up and I was hitting it a bit poorer than usual so I took a shot at some pro instruction. I got a lesson at this driving range that used to exist on Cote de Liesse called Golf Gardens. The guy only did 2 small things; he changed my trail hand grip to one sort of like the change that you are making and made my hold the grip very much in the fingers only with the trail hand. I was kind of clunking it during the lesson hitting only short irons and if felt very weird. Right at the end of the lesson, he said "you don't come down like this, you come down like this" and kind of moved my upper body in the same kind of pattern that you are now working on.
I went to work that week and these 2 guys that had never played golf said that they wanted to play in the tournament so I brought them to the range and said that I might give them some pointers. When I started to hit balls with the new grip and the new move, I entered the Oz or Shangri-La of ball striking like never before or since. The range ended at 300 yrds and I flew every drive I hit 30 yrds. past the end of the range EXACTLY where I was aiming with a wooden-headed driver. In fact I was having trouble seeing the ball land with my excellent 20/10 vison. I started feeling this late release that felt like it was in slow motion but was accelerating the club beyond belief. I was a natural home run hitter in softball and very pound for pound strong and it felt like I was getting every iota of effect out of my speed and power. These 2 guys were looking at me like I was from another planet as they topped shots 50-100 yrds. down the range. So I took out the irons and started to try them out. My 3-iron was still 50 feet in the air as it passed directly over the 200 marker so I started to try some shot shaping. I was drawing and fading the 3-iron at will with the balls going right over the 200 marker again, and so it continued with my other clubs. I guess that I was so on plane that I just needed a slight hand adjustment to work the ball either way. I have had a lot of great ball striking in my life but this was the one and only time that I have ever experienced anything like this. I won the tournament but the striking was only a shadow of that range session. I went back to the range the next week and the guy had left and they didn't know where he had gone. Sounds crazy but it's completely true. I hope that your change gives you just such a boost and sets your career onto a steep ascent. Cheers.

@@timothypollock8358 You’re right. That day at Griffon was the best I had hit my irons all year. Unfortunately I was never able to replicate it because I couldn’t identify what I managed to do so well during that specific round, but I’m getting closer and closer to that everyday.
That’s an interesting story! Unfortunately I think we all have had a day like yours where everything clicks. The hardest part is knowing how to do it every day.

@@jamescolindavisgolf Well, if you've had days like that, more power to you and may you have many more because I think that with some decent chipping and putting, that quality of striking and control would have easily put me on tour. I've had a lot of ball striking that would stand up to tour standards but this was like merging Weiskopf and Miller. Cheers.

It took Tiger 8mths to adjust to a minor grip change, he said he walked around the house for hrs with a grip in his hands. We never see the hrs put in to make it all work. Trust and taking it the course requires hrs of reps nothing you don’t know already but having the desire to be the best requires failure and commitment.
