- In this video I talk about how 5G and 4G LTE interference and show what it looks like if you use an antenna for local digital HD channels. In many situations LTE can be a problem if you live within a mile of a cell tower. I show how the Channel Master CM-3201 LTE Filter stopped the reception problems from a nearby cell tower on a recent antenna installation.

Antenna Man thank you
Antenna man you are absolutely correct when you are telling everybody about this situation with the cell phone 4G LTE interference I am a professional technician in West Palm Beach area in Florida I used to be a Dish network technician and now I am doing antenna install for customer here in West Palm Beach especially Latino customers I've Found this Problem in multiple locations there is some areas that I call dead zone no antenna at all work properly
YET the US government continues to not only allow this BUT is encouraging it with their removal of more and more spectrum for 5G. I hope the scare of 5G is real and the politicians all get cancer.
he maybe correct however in my location bridgeport connecticutnyc market

In Europe all TV antennas have a 4G LTE filter built in, because we only use the UHF band for OTA TV. Even the matching transformer has a LTE Filter. The good part is that you can live near a 4G cell phone tower and still have 90 to 95% signal quality. Great Video Tyler.
That’s great!!!!! Wish we had it in the U.S. Thanks for the information.
I purchased one of these filters because there is a cell tower less than 200 feet from my residence. It did stabilize the strongest channels but it also attenuated some weaker channels. It is a trade off but it definitely works.
Thanks for the info . I added a Channel master CM-3201 and it worked great ! No more glitching during football!
I live approximately 1000 feet from a cell tower, so i bought one of the Channel Master LTE filters and popped in on just before my distribution amplifier and the difference is night and day. For a long time I was tilting and turning my antenna due to occasional signal loss, but after installing the filter all channels in my area come in without any pixelation or loss with the exception of one low power channel (45) that only broadcasts shopping networks. I'd say it works quite well in my setup.
Be aware that any thing you throw inline with the antenna will degrade the signal from some to a lot depending. Some filters are -1.9 to 4db down and -3db is half the signal.
I had been noticing this issue for a while on at least one of my channels, but I didn't know there was something I could do about it until I saw this video. Just got mine in, installed it, and have been watching the channel I noticed this issue the most for about the past 20 minutes. It's gone. THANK YOU!!!!!

Tyler, thank you for the video about TV interference from LTE. I ordered a Tablo Quad, but was disappointed with the picture on some of the channels. I thought I was going to have to upgrade my outside antenna. It’s about 10 years old and the inclined roof blocks line of site for some channels. I ordered the Channel Master LTE filter and installed it yesterday. Every channel that I’m interested in now has a good picture. I was initially disappointed with a few channels that broadcasts old shows like Grit, MeTV, etc, until I remembered that they were made before color TV and HDTV. Those channels are as good as they can be. Thanks for what you do.
Just wanted to thank you for posting this video. I've had an antenna setup for a few years now with 2 stations that were intermittently choppy. I also have 2 x cell phone towers directly across the street from my house, After purchasing a 4G filter, the channels are no longer choppy and coming in crystal clear. I thought it was just my antenna that was crappy but for 20$ it was a great fix.

Televes antennas have a built in lte filter and preamp. most people should also use quad shielded cable as well.
Indeed! As a proud owner of Televes antenna myself I do think it should have been mentioned in the video that you might not need that.
We picked a Channel Master LTE filter. very obvious improvement. Thank You.
Hey Tyler, thank you again for all of these videos. Since finding your youtube page I've now got my father, grandfather, and aunt on OTA TV (after assuring them that the cheap pingbingding "HD" antenna was nearly worthless) and we're extremely happy with the results that you helped us to achieve. (40+ channels each, and we live in the boonies)
We're all using the combination LTE filter/Pre-Amp that you recommended in a previous video.
I'm wondering: If we're not particularly close to a cell tower, is an LTE filter actually detrimental to our experience? Or can they be safely recommended for everyone that wants to cut the cord?
Only use an LTE filter if you have the same pixeling problem as shown in the video. Also I'm glad my videos helped you get better reception. Feel free to give a contribution at one of the links below as I spend a lot of time making the videos and responding to these comments:

Thank you, Tyler! Great video. I purchased this product and it cleaned up a few of my channels and made them watchable. I would have never guessed this was the problem.
Again, thank you!
You should test one of Danny hodges homemade antennas
Yes, id like that too
Same here it would be nice to test
Over glorified VHF antenna.
You should buy one and send it to him to test.
I have one made of coat hangers on a 3 1/2 piece of wood with a preamp and I get 35 channels in my area
Just bought and installed 2 of these in my household, as I have a cell tower across the street from my location. They do make a difference.
Wow!! You just explained almost EVERY problem I've had w/t.v. recept for past decade!! ( Lived in same place 19yrs) Only have OTA, no cable, computer, etc. Gonna gettmee filter!! TY!!
Thanks for showing what the interference looks like. My antenna [with built in LTE filter] was working fine until I had to move it slightly, when I moved it back the sporadic picture pixilation problems started.
Your video confirmed what I thought the problem might be, now I just need to replace the filter and not the whole antenna.
It is most likely inferior to the channel master LTE filter but I am using the "Mercury AF4G" LTE filter. It eliminated time of day issues I was having off and on for months. Around 9:30 PM until after midnight I would start to get pixlization on the same channels even when they were showing a strong signal. I installed mine as a test right before my splitter knowing that it really should be up at the antenna. When the problem went away and there was no loss of signal on my channels I just left it indoors where it was. At least with it indoors there is one less connection joint outside in the rain and snow.
TYLER KNOWS what he's talking about 100%. Listen to this man's recommendations. He is SPOT ON
Thanks, Tyler for showing what LTE interference looks like. Does the filter take some of the signal strength of the cable line run?
It's a simple Notch Filter that basically gets rid of the frequency range LTE is operating on, and lets all others pass through. The Notch Filter its self shouldn't degrade your signal. However, any extra connections on the coax (the 2 on the filter) will in theory contribute to loss. This would be negligible though
Great video Tyler , I have a filter that is identical to the one featured and it works great . I purchased it after watching one of your earlier videos although , I did pay more than $20 for mine
Hey Tyler got my LTE filter on and it fixed all the pixelation on all my channels thanks for your help wish you were close to me where we could help each other with antenna issues
Bought the Channel Master CM-3201 LTE Filter. While one of my VHF stations is now weaker, the UHF ones are stronger and more consistent. Since one of them is my 4 channel PBS station, it's a definite keeper. Thanks again.
NICE, BUT PBS is too LEFT WING. TAXPAYERS SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO FUND IT! Those deceptive LIBERALS NEVER shut down stations, as they threaten, during fundraisers! They even have the nerve to SELL COMMERCIALS, AND BEG!!!! CON JOBBERS.
The problem isn't that the LTE frequencies are "near" the TV channel frequencies. But that the LTE frequencies now reside in the channels 39 to 69 range that TV receivers were and still are designed to receive. So when a strong LTE signal hits the input stage of the TV receiver (before even the tuner stage) it can clip the receiver's input stage. Thus disrupting the TV signals as well.
The solution. Install an LTE filter that blocks the frequencies of channels above 36 so that the LTE signals in that range will not be strong enough to clip the TV receiver input stage.
So you have the solution correct. Just not a technically correct description of the cause.
I installed the CM-3201 LTE Filter (the newer version that is for channels up to 36; 5-609 MHz pass; 610-2000 MHz block) and noticed a reduction in pixelation.
Note: Some third parties are still selling the previous version that is for channels up to 51 (5-699 MHz pass; 700-2000 MHz block). They both have the same model number. So be sure to get the correct one. The previous version will not be effective for interference caused by LTE signals in the recently reallocated channel 37 - 51 range.
Thank you!
So, the closer the channel frequency is closer to the LTE frequency, you will see the pixelation as shown in the video.
Tyler, keep the tips and advice coming, they are very helpful. Thanks!
It can bleed down the UHF band. The TV station shown was on RF channel 31
pixlation is also caused by shared RF signals same RF example
pax 31 fox 61 ct market RF 34 same frequency... why signals break up not just a cell tower issue
Thanks this is great, I had no idea what LTE noise looked like.
I'm trying to rebuild my yagi. According to hdtvprimer longer 600mhz elements will ignore LTE, no filter and increase gain on the new set of channels. But rebuilding is a major pain, I hope the FCC doesn't sell spectrum again.
They probably will. I can see them pushing all TV stations to VHF in 10-20 years as the cell phone companies lobby more and more.
I replaced a lot of the coaxial cables from my antenna setup with quad shield cables and I notices that I didn't pickup as much outside interference. I have thought about getting one of these LTE filters but I don't think I get too much interference from cellphone towers where I live. Thanks for you videos
Thank you for that info. I have 42 towers all around me. Great job. Again.
Thanks for the great information... I have had this problem for some time.
This is good information to know because there is a cell tower about 3/4 of a mile down a road from where I live. So if I see this pixelation that Tyler is talking of, I'll know what to do. Thanks again for another great tip.
I've had a great signal for 10+ years. I'm about 60-70 miles away, but live at a higher elevation then anywhere between me and the City. I've always had a good line of site into the City. Over the last 6 months, I've been getting the studdering, pixeling issue. Last year, at least 2 new cell towers have been installed withing 10 miles of me. I'm going to grab one of these filters and I sure hope it cures this. It's so frustrating trying to watch a show these days.
As always...BRILLIANT...THX TYLER!!!
Thank you for that example. It proves I did the right thing. I tried the filter and it didn't help. The interference was more like the second example you gave . Turns out once I got rid of that amplified batwing antenna and put up a real, non amplified, multi-element antenna the problem went away. I am waiting on 5G filters to become available. There is a tower only a block an a half from here but to the back side of my TV antenna. Who know when 5G will become available around here.
Cm-3201 filter has been updated to filter out 5G NR (frequencies above 609 MHz are blocked). Channel Master website details this in their website.Go to the Tech Spec tab for CM-3201.
I had installed an LTE interference filter a couple of years ago at the tuner and it improved things, but the interference got really bad. I bought a different filter but it did not chance, but when I put the second filter on the antenna in the attic and the improvement was dramatic. If you use one on your tuner and still have issues, do try putting it at the antenna.
Best Purchased a RCA e boost antenna after going through 3 different kinds of antennas
You dont need a "LTE filter" any 75ohm 600MHZ low pass filter will work!! Also filters have an internal noise figure, so its actually better to filter after the preamp if possible otherwise you lower noise margin for reception during storm. You want the cleanest unimpeded signal to the preamp.
Thank you for your help its appreciate it.
Always excellent information as always. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips, I'm going to order Channel Master LTE filter right now 😎👍
Hey Tyler! $19 isn't going to kill me. Just the sudden stop when I hit the ground below my antenna. I was just up on the roof to aim my antenna CM-4228HD with the CM-7777V3 amp. I am dead on with the aim and about 30 miles from the only station I can get. I am all the sudden getting this pixelation you are describing. I think I will try this. I like that it is a male -female so it looks like it is oriented so I can attach it directly to the CM-7777V3 pre-amp and the coax that goes to the antenna. I maybe over driving the TV with a hot signal too. I am only out $20 some dollars if it doesn't work.
I checked and in my area, NW OR, I found one tower 2 miles way, but it is not registered and does not say what the tower is. The nearest cel towers are 8-11 miles way I believe, but that is all I could find.
Will an FM filter help Lo-VHF TV Stations
especially those on 7.1 or 8.1?
I had random pixellation issues. Not like what was shown in this video. They were random, heavy, and frequent. I have never seen a cell tower in my area. I put one of these on and the picture is perfect.
THANKS TYLER FOR YOUR ADVICE
Good vid. Thanks as always for clear and solid info.
Note; these filters do make your output drop a few db's 2-6 but as you said make sure that its 4-5g/lte interference that is actually the issue & not just simple, poor reception.
If you are combining two indoor antenna signals and each come with a (detachable externally powered) preamp and I'm using a Channel Master distributor amplifier (externally powered) to send to two TV sets - where would you say is the best spot to put the LTE filter? Before the preamp or before the distribution amplifier? My original thoughts were:
Antenna 1 TV 1
> combiner ----- LTE filter ------ pre-amplifier ----- distribution amplifer <
Antenna 2 TV 2
Thanks for any insight you might have on my set up plans.
New to the channel and enjoying all the tips and reviews.
Before the preamp would be best
@@AntennaMan Cool thanks!
Wow! Good to know! I imagine I'll need one of those in my installation.
The reason an LTE filter is useful is because the front end of the tv is so poor! They have little to no filtering from the factory. The LTE base station will not be transmitting out of band.
A Brilliant Video All The Best To You.
I picked it up. And I have one of those flat square cheap antenna he tells you not to buy. But everything works just fine. It did improve my signal. But once I get a better antenna I will get more channels.
Does it make a difference which you use based on the height of your building? What if you live in a high rise?
Great information !!! Thank you !!!
LTE Interference can also affect strong channels as well if you use a pre-amp or drop-amp with your antenna which can overload your TV's tuner. Many cellphone carriers are now using small cell transmitters for their 4G LTE and 5G services installed on lamp and hydro posts by the hundreds and thousands. With 5G they require a transmitter every 1000ft whereas with 4G every 6.25m.
Thanks for the video
One slight mistake in the chart is that the new band will extend up to channel thirty-six;
channel thirty-seven has never been issued and is reserved permanently,
and Judge Lynn Toler might know this (see, I watched the full video).
SOLD!
Before the amplifier means between the antenna and amp, correct?
I wish I'd found this video before. I just went to the antenna search site and found that I live within 2 miles of 5 cell towers with the closest .2 miles away. I installed one of these filters yesterday, so I am anxious to see if it helps.
I have recently installed the LTE filter onto my powered signal splitter (from Channel Master) and made sure it it plugged in correctly to fix some problematic channels that were breaking up very badly despite having very good signal (according to the signal information on my Samsung TV with up to 27 db with a channel in RF channel 18), unfortunately the problem is still there on the problematic channel, and I'm beginning to suspect that there's something going on with the tower station, such as heavy maintenance work, as even when I tested a higher position with my outdoor antenna, the channel still breaks up badly with excellent signal. Any other possible reasons for this?
very good to know about. Thanks!
Nice! Is there a filter for microwave oven interference. I have a problem with a neighbor's microwave oven. It turns on, and my channel 3 (rf ch. 11) goes pixelated real bad. Any ideas?
With FCC repack completed this past July, CM-3201 filter has been updated to filter out 5G NR (frequencies above 609 MHz are blocked). Channel Master website details this in their website. Go to the Tech Spec tab for CM-3201. What is not on Website and was clarified by Channel Master customer service, is that the filter has 3 dB loss (half power loss). This may mean that some channels might be lost in the rescan if the signal was weak to begin with. That's the trade off. Please keep this in mind. Do not return because you lost some stations.
I am in Fallston, MD and tried the Antenna Master LTE filter because I was hoping to clear up problems with me getting Maryland Public Television on 22 WMPT (OTA 21) or 67 WMPB (OTA 22). I get a good signal on both stations in the 70% range (using my Dish Network 722K receiver), but the signal periodically completely drops out for a second and comes back. The LTE filter didn’t improve the problem and caused pixelation with many of the DC UHF stations. If I remove the filter, the pixelation goes away. I have an old VHF antenna in my attic (probably from the 60s) and a newer fringe UHF antenna and don’t have metal siding. The problem seems to have gone away since the leaves have fallen, so maybe next Spring, I’ll try re-aiming my UHF antenna. I guess it’s a balancing act between resolving the MPT issue and keeping the DC stations.
Wow that's amazing dude fell tower's all around me 0.19 closest also a pa game commission antenna 0.39 mile away in Philly zip 19111
Hi Antenna Man, I live approximately 2000 feet from a water tower with LTE cell antennas. When the weather is poor I sometimes lose signal from Fox 5 in NYC, all the other channels from NYC and beyond come in strong. The two main antennas for NYC are 17 miles from me and I have a very good outdoor antenna and coax. Could the LTE signals be effecting just one channel? If I put in an LTE filter should I consider a amp to boast the signal? I know there are a ton of factors to consider, but I would like your thoughts.
Tyler great info I have cell phone boosters plus parabolic antennas for a router that brings in my high speed intranet but I'm 3 miles from an antenna. Will this filter help my pixelization. I've got a giant antenna in the attic from Channel Master.
My antenna came with a filter built into the top. I don't get that interference. Great explanation as usual.
There are both FM and LTE filters. Some antennas and pre-amps come with one or both filters.
Great video I need your help for sure the Noise filter did not work and actually made it worse at certain times....HELP!!
Sounds like you need a better antenna setup. Consider an antenna recommendation from me at the link below. This can prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars and time wasted on setting up the wrong antenna for your area. antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
That repetitive picture distortion looks more like interference from a TDMA signal than LTE. One thing that you might not know is that the "digital dividend" spectrum freed up by the repack was also allocated for public safety use. While LTE uses CDMA modulation over wide bands of RF at relatively low power levels, trunking radio systems of the type deployed in the 600-1000 MHz range use high-powered control channels that continuously send out bursts of data in a repetitive, periodic fashion. Because the power is hundreds of Watts in only 12.5 kHz (vs. the same or less over tens of megahertz) the power spectral density is MUCH higher, and can easily overload an amplifier. In contrast, an LTE signal is like steady-state white noise.
Yes, a low-pass filter of the type being marketeered as "LTE filter" will solve the LMR interference. Just don't jump to the conclusion that it's LTE that's the problem without using a spectrum analyzer to find out. And absolutely do not harass or intimidate anyone based on incomplete information. Creating scapegoats doesn't help anyone.
I have the Televes Data Mix with their built-in preamp. Guess then that I cannot use this filter or does their preamp do that already? I found that I have a tower 0.9-mile along the same line that I have my antenna pointed (my guess).
This is why I say invest the $10 for a custom antenna recommendation, it'll save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on purchasing an antenna.
Me too but people are cheap and prefer to go through all of the headaches themselves than pay someone to save them the grief.
Whats the insertion loss on the filter?
i paid 120 and 10 for free tv type antenna. NEVER have seen any difference. before on my television. However, lately, i get the blurry fuzz in and out along with no signal long time and wondering if one of the antennas gone bad, or if i am picking up something from a newer neighbor or something. I even just suddenly lose channels. rescanning does not seem to help and when it does, it does not last.
I would love to give you glowing accolades, but all of this is Greek to me, and there was a time I had a 3rd class radio license (which may not have a lot to do with TV, but there is a basic language in place). My problem is I had reception, then spring started springing and now it's becoming impossible to get anything signal in without having to re-do positioning every single channel.
I've started watching some shows on internet.
Good info!👍
can the filter cause any problems
Would having a Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 2 in the house be enough to cause interference?
Almost anything electronic can possibly cause interference. I have heard of indoor antennas having issues every time someone uses a microwave oven in the house. Just use process of elimination. when you get the signal loss, unplug the network extender. If the problem continues then it was not the source of the signal noise. That works great for country and suburban homes but people in cities where everyone lives close, it can be your neighbor's wonky home electronics firing up. Then you are screwed because you can't go next door and start unplugging their stuff.

A.M. I bought an Antop antenna top on the line, my issue is I also have a GE lower end antenna in my bedroom which works great. My question is I can't get some local CBS station on my Antop antenna, but in the bedroom they come in great. What can solve this problem. Thank You, Richard
What’s dropping my TBS Crossfire 915mhz RC control signal. ?
I have a Clearstream 4 mounted on roof...about 8 miles from most TV Transmit antennas. Reception fine at 4 TV sets (running of 4-way split pre-amp), but I have severe pixelation on a couple of channels when recording with my Tablo dual-stream digital recorder. Any chance that LTE interference could be the cause? I have about 4 cell towers along the reception path.

do you think this could interfere with cell phone and not the tv? the last couple of months everyone within 2 blocks of me all notice our cells no longer have the reception it once had. drops calls etc. and we all have different providers. Any ideas?
Hi, Please share Mini Mobile antenna sticker design. i' am not sure whether Mobile antenna stickers work as claimed?
Thanks for the great info! You have inspired me to cut the cord (Dish Tv) last month! I got a new 4K tv(TCL ROKU TV) and
I mounted a Clearstream Max(wanted a 2 Max but couldn't find it locally) and mounted inside(only option )Added an Onn amp that helped bring in the weaker channels.
But I am getting interference were the strong 5 bar signal dropps to nothing than back to 5 ,does it 2 or 3 times. It may not happen all the time but it seems to happen in a pattern. This happens on ALL channels and it does not look like your vid...could this be LTE interference?
Thanks again for all you do!

@@AntennaMan thanks for the reply....right now I am a bit tight on money but next week I get paid. The trouble is more annoying than anything, but I can manage it till then. Look forward to using your service.
PS I am very familiar with your area as I am from Pottstown, Pennsylvania but now live in Durham NC!
Our family's fav signal now comes in on rf-36 since repack. The transmitter is 78 miles from our home. Since the newly freed-up spectrum for cell phone carriers now starts at rf-38, I worry that we'll one day lose it reliably if there is or becomes a nearby tower; especially after 5G comes in with towers everywhere. I fear that an LTE filter will weaken the far away signal and so just trade one issue for another in such a scenario.
There is a small amount of signal loss on RF 36 with the LTE filter but it's very marginal.
Cm-3201 filter has been updated to filter out 5G NR (frequencies above 609 MHz are blocked). Channel Master website details this in their website.Go to the Tech Spec tab for CM-3201.
should this be placed by the tv or at the antenna? my antenna is split to two tvs.
If you are using a splitter it should be placed before the splitter.
I got one channel showing it's but. It use to not do that.
Tyler you my heroe
so how will atsc3.0 gonna be better when LTE taking all your bandwidth lately..??? they lost more than 400mhz to lte then sudden atsc3.0 is better ...??? makes no sense in your perspective from last video 5 months ago
It's a completely different standard that's a lot less fragile than ATSC 1.0.
I have the "Televes DATBOSS Mix UHF VHF Amplified Outdoor HDTV Antenna with LTE Filter (149483)" which supposedly has a built in LTE filter. But I still get interference similar to what is depicted in your example on some UHF channels. Would adding one of these filters before my splitter, or at the antenna input on the TV help at all?
You can try but if it has a 4G LTE filter don't think you have interference. That antenna is a very basic small directional antenna on the borderline of a junk antenna. You'll likely need a larger antenna. If the filter doesn't work consider a custom antenna recommendation at the link below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
Tyler will the LTE filter help with weak signals to I'm 2 miles from 3 cell towers in riceville Tennessee
It could - buy one and try it out.
@@AntennaMan I order one from Amazon it will be in this Friday hope that it will help me get more channels added
If i want to install an RCA ant3037 antenna in York, PA with Wine guard lna200 preamp can I screw the output of the lte filter directly in to the input side of the amp, connect the output of the antenna to the filter, then run the cable from the amp output to the tv tuner? Is this correct? Thanks
No, put the LTE filter before where the antenna goes into the preamp.
there's a cell phone tower in someone's backyard.. I wonder if that is causing bad reception of weak distance stations.. hmmm..
Does anyone still make a full size TV antenna that gets VHF LO, VHF HI, and UHF? Thanks! Great job with this video.
Yes there are plenty of them out there
I'm facing disturbed signal in a couple of weeks, maybe because of the 5G antenas that are mounting cel companies. T2 repiters are very close to mobile anteas. i can't find a LTE filter in here. What can i do?
You can find an LTE filter at the link below: amzn.to/3oW4BDz
I'm only 3 blocks from a major "city water tank cell tower". My screen goes total pixelation at times while watching a channel with excellent receive signal level from what I believe is 4g activity.
Is there any reason I couldn't place two cm-3201 filters in series if a single unit fails to totally correct the interference ??
If one doesn't work two won't work. It's possible you may have interference from 5G which there aren't filters for yet.
