- Check out our list of the top 10 Tactical RPGs of all time.
From XCOM, to Final Fantasy Tactics to Triangle Strategy, tactical rpgs are not always flashy and exciting at first glance, but can be one of the most satisfying meals to sink your teeth into. From controlling Viking armies to repelling alien invasions and even fighting in a faux World War II, there is a wide world of experiences to be had in this genre, and we've selected the 10 best. Games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and XCOM each have their own place, so let's jump in!
#IGN #Games - Ігри
0:35 - othercide (10)
1:33 - Triangle Strategy (9)
2:22 - Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (8)
3:30 - The Banner Saga (7)
4:49 - Valkyria Chronicles (6)
5:42 - Disgaea 5 (5)
6:36 - Fire Emblem: Three Houses (4)
7:39 - Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (3)
8:35 - XCOM 2 (2)
9:31 - Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (1)
Nothing from the Advance Wars series is a true tragedy here, as well as the pick of Disgaea 5 over Disgaea 2. Also Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn was superior as a sequel, and Fire Emblem Awakening easily deserves the spot over Three Houses.
Please take three houses off this list…I love that game, but the partner system is still broken…put Byleth in the tile next to the house leader and win, even on hard mode classic
@@jeffbezos3200 I mean to be fair, this is just random peoples opinions. You shouldn't take these game site's lists to heart. For example I prefer Gears Tactics over XCOM myself. Also Metal Gear Ac!d 2 was an awesome under appreciated gem that will never be on anyones top 10 tactics game other than mine lol.
#1 best Jagged Alliance 2........nothing else comes close, played them all....runner up Age of Wonders Shadow Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic 3
@@jimjim5491 I don't fully agree with Jagged Alliance 2, but HOMM3 is sorely missing from the list. A universal classic.
To anyone who hasn't tried it. I highly recommend Jeanne d'Arc for psp. Was super fun.
It really should have made this list.. I’m surprised an XCom made it being it’s considered straight up strategy.. Still great..
Dunno about game entries but Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles are definitely the top two franchises.. However, Triangle Strategy appears to be the start of something special..
That's my favourite, the first one I played and the only tactics rpg that I finished, tried some of the old titles listed here but didnt scratch the itch. I wanted to specify the things I mostly liked but everything about it is just so well made. Hope Level 5 release a new entry with similar systems or a remastered version of it.
For now Im looking to try FE Three Houses.
Jeanne D’Arc is highly underrated.. love that game
@@Mintcar923 Triangle Strategy is the continuation of something special. In fact, it's based off of the Tactics Ogre LUCT game on this same list. The similarities are many
I thoroughly enjoyed it!
*Vandal Hearts 2, Brigandine Legend of Forsena, Suikoden Tactics, FF Tactics Advance, Front Mission 3, Arc The Lad, Jeanne d'Arc, Vanguard Bandits
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.
personally final fantasy tactics ADVANCE it's my favorite tactical rpg I have so many memories with this game
Same. So fun and beautiful
Maybe I’m being biased but what about Shining Force. That’s what got me into this entire genre.
Me too
Shining Force III (SEGA Saturn) it's my favorite tactical RPG
You are not! Claiming that this a greatest of all time! and not including the OG founding games likes Shining Force, Ogre Tactics, Front Mission, Langrisser (aka Warsong), Super Robot Wars and Vandal Hearts. Hell even the RARE one offs like Kardia and Saiyuki Journey of the West were ideas and inspirations for several of these on this list
@@redmanp11 When you are about to write a comment, but the guy before just wrote it for you. Totally agree. Into the genre since Shining force II. The biggest let down for me is FE3H, I bought a switch for that... So much potential, incredible cut scene and story, but i got so tired to play fedex for all the character to get their stuff between the battles.
@@TUTOnboutin I almost forgot the Project X Zone games on DS OMG why weren't even one of them was on this list. Tactics RPG Crossover with FAN favorites from Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead rising, Valkyrie Chronicles, Darkstalkers, Resident Evil, Sakura Wars, Shining Force 3, and Tales of Vesperia games fighting together in team units.
Absolutely. Shining Force is really endearing. It also got mi into the genre.
Thanks for this. After so many years of zero love I'm happy to see my favorite genre is getting back to it's glory days with new releases and loads of remakes to come.
I've played most of the games mentioned on this list but for some reason completely missed Othercide.
Definitely going to check it out since it's cheap (and on sale in Asia right now)
If anyone else has some good suggestions feel free to reply.
Some of mine would be: Front mission series and Phoenix point (it's very buggy though)
I really enjoyed Phantom doctrine as well.
If you haven’t played Fell Seal Arbiters Mark, it should be in the top 3 on this list. You’ll absolutely love every second of it.
@@sethvs6962 its on my radar for sure, just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Thanks for reminding me about this one!
Shining Force III (SEGA Saturn) it's my favorite tactical RPG
Jeanne of Arc on PSP deserved a place here
Vandal Hearts is amazing!
Deserved to be on the list.
Is that available on any modern platforms or do you need old hardware or to emulate it?
@@Adallacei think its only on PSX, so emulation is probably your best bet
Ogre Battle 64 introduced me to TRPGs and has always a special place in my gamer heart
The best, but it seems they went with grid-turn-based-tactical RPGs. I do prefer the ogre battle games
For some reason, I always thought the Ogre Battle games were SRPGs and the Tactics Ogre games were TRPGs, so maybe they're drawing that distinction?
OB64 is a lot of fun, though. Like... there are parts of OB:MotBQ I really love, but when it comes to which one I'd rather be playing, it's OB64 over OB:SNES any day.
Ogre Battle 64 is my all time favorite game. It was my first tactical RPG.
No Shining Force? That game's popularity paved the way for tactical RPGs.
My favorite is Front Mission 3. Can't wait for the 1 and 2 remake!
I really loved Jeanne D'arc for the PSP
Should be honorable mention
No Shining Force?? Wow!!!
Shining Force 3 Trilogy in my heart forever
The fact that Shining Force or Shining Force 2 didn't make a list of top Tactical RPG's is just plain criminal.
Yes, FF Tactics is a beautiful game IMO. Deep story, a vast variety of characters, jobs, and fun game mechanics. Such a memorable game.
It feels as though you described Triangle Strategy, you should try it. I think it's about to become one of the best tbs game of all time that has Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics DNA on it.
it's beatiful but i couldn't overcome the "you have to move, end your move and then you can look, what you can do from here" when coming from ffta
i hope they address this in a possible re-release...
but is this just me?
No Shining Force mentioned is a big fail.
Jagged Alliance 2 not mentioned is also another fail.
Very good review and video! Thank you. Adding the music for each game brought back memories for some of the game!
I"m glad Othercide got a shoutout, it's a gorgeous game that really took me by surprise and made an impression.
All about Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together in this household.
A true man of culture
Valkyria Chronicles 4 Truly Deserves a Spot here. It's an Improvement in every way to VC1, felt more Memorable than VC1, the focus on the entire squad characters with individual stories, the main story dynamics and gameplay improvements, made this one of the best Tactical RPGs/Strategy Action games of all time!
exactly
Shining Force 3 ( Sega Saturn ) is the best 💚💚
Jeanne d'Arc on PSP is my all time favourite.
Tactics ogre should be released on other platforms. It's a gem
Its in the geo force leaks. Its coming.
Hell yeah I just bought it on the Vita a few weeks ago because I heard how good it was. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a strain on the eyes on that small screen. Hopefully the leaks of a remake are true.
@@Atlanta4Ever The PS Vita still has an open eshop? Interesting lol!
@@grizzlybearking1878 What are these leaks?
@@zakunick1 a possible re-release or new game. marked "reborn"
Loved valkyria chronicles! … but when I think tactical rpgs my fave is Jeanne d'Arc on psp!
Mah boi forgot vandal hearts and jeanne d'arc
Wow! Not even a mention of the Front Mission games? O.o
I love Fire Emblem so much, even bought a Wii U only to be able to play Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn 😀
But I was amazed that you even put classics like Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics on the list, good job there!
I am really hyped for the remaster of Advance Wars :)
To be honest, FE is the most classic out of them all
This is my favorite Fire 🔥 Emblem & Radiant Dawn!
I’m surprised that Advance Wars isn’t on here! 1+2 Reboot Camp is my most anticipated game of the year. Great list though!
That’s not a RPG. The tactics, borrowing largely from Daisenryaku series before Famicom Wars was released, were extremely good though. Look up Daisenryaku 7 & Perfect 4.0.
I'm sad it got pushed back.
@@ApothercyCold Yep. It's BS too. Literally NO ONE would be offended by releasing it despite the war overseas. These companies always pander to the dumbest people on earth or people that barely exist.
It's your list and who am I to criticize it, but here are a few extra games:
- Jagged Alliance 2
- Into the Breach
- Front Mission
- Vandal Hearts 2
- Divinity Original Sin 2
- SteamWorld Heist
- Invisible, Inc.
- Wildermyth
And probably shouldn't be on any top 10 list, but solid games:
- Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2
- Shining Force 2 (haven't played enough of 3 to say it's better)
- Shadowrun Hong Kong
- Suikoden Tactics
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2
- Brigandine
- Siilent Storm
Super robot taisen games were great
BUT THAT WAR OF THE LIONS ART AND ANIMATION 😵🥵🔥
I played the banner saga, all 3, during shelter in place. The studio really did care about the characters and game. Glad I also enjoyed most of the games on this list
Triangle Strategy surpassed expectations.
Tactics Ogre is probably the best game on this list (to me) and the predecessor "Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen" from the SNES is one of my favorite games of all time
Man path of radiance clip just brought me back
I'm glad you put the Banner Saga, it truly deserves its place on the list. A masterpiece of storytelling, combat and immersion imo.
A very honourable mention to Vikings Expedition (haven't played Rome yet).
Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark is a really good game that was inspired by FFT. Having said that, my favourite tactics game: Vandal Hearts, Fell Seal, Triangle Strategy and FFT:WOTL. SquareEnix or Sony - Please make a new FFT for PS5! 🙏🙏
Agreed!
Vandal hearts is an all time classic. Wish the game were a bit longer though
Fell Seal was soooo good! I didn't stop until I got the platinum trophy on PS for it.
Agreed. Fell Seal is very underrated.
Fell Seal is amazing and made by a husband wife team!
Really solid indy game. Using the Steam workshop added some really fun classes as well.
devil survivor deserves to be on this list
Tactics Ogre is golden! Underrated but really good.
Vandal hearts should be on the list if not top 3
Vandal Hearts doesn't get enough love.
It's the first Tactics game I ever played... and nothing has lived up to it to this day.
soooooo stoked to see The Banner Saga on this list. ive been playing the games since they came out and dont see them on lists of this manner often
TO:LUCT is #1 in my heart
I missed Shining force 2. Probably a honour mention must be included.
FF Tactics has been one of my favorite games of all time for years. Triangle Strategy, however, has creeped its way up there and almost overtook it! But not quite!
only if it had more customization and classes,a pity. Everything else is good though.
Yeah. I've been playing (finished) tactic ogre luct, ff tactic, and triangle strategy. Compared to the other 2, triangle strategy is more focused on story rather than the classic job/class mechanic. There is no customization on triangle strategy, every character upgrade is just stright up upgrade unique character. The game is just story based literary the story is longer than actual gameplay and grind.
I really Triangle Strategy 2, hopefully with customization of classes and characters like mentioned above. This could be the next coming of FFT that we are all waiting on…….also xcom3
@@ashtekgaming7527 Personally, I like what dropping the job system did for the game's balance and variety. Don't get me wrong, I love the mixing/matching you can do with FFTactics, but some of the combos are so busted that it makes the rest of the options feel weak in comparison. Triangle Strategy only has one really busted character, and you probably won't even see that one until NG+.
@@TheRationalPi I agree. i just wanted a bit more non linear progression. Each character being its own class is pretty accepting solution for me. Trying disgaea series for the first time to scratch that itch, heard its similar to fft.
I’m going to give a special shoutout to Mario + Rabbids.
Dark Wizard, FF Tactics, Ogre Battle 64, Xcom, Vanguard Bandits... among my favs.
You can add Vandal Hearts and Front Mission
My list:1.Shining Force 1-2 2.Final Fantasy Tactics 3.Vandal Hearts
It is a diverse list and it's nice to see the genre given a place in the sun. However, where is Shining Force.
Political intrigue, great maps, excellent music, easy to get into battle system.
It should be at least in the top 5.
Agreed. Shining Force was my first experience with a tactical RPG. Great game!
Yes! such a staple of my childhood. The Sega Genesis game had an ending like 5-7 minutes long, unheard of for the time. An excellent, simple but satisfying TRPG, made with heart
@@MrVisde I still play it
Yeah I have xcom/tactics ogre/ff tactics/fe3h/shining force top 5. The list is very good outside of missing shining force though, and for a games publication thats usually not the case.
They left so many more deserving games. It's ultimately not important but how the fuck is Banner Saga on here but not Shining Force, Suikoden or SMT: Devil Summoner
How can shinning force not be on the list somewhere ?
no shining force 3? no super robot wars F? and one of my favs three kingdoms eiketsuden...
The ones I've enjoyed the most:
Shining Force 2
Wargroove
Mario Rabbids
two ps2 ATLUS games : Eternal poison & stella desus are criminally underrated tactical jrpg , they deserve more attention ,and must be in the top list.
i agree FFT put on number 1. But i think Front Mission 3 also very Good tactical RPG and should get into the list
This is a great list Ronny and a good video. I was pleasantly surprised to see the thought and quality put into this. Haven’t watched anything IGN in a while due to falling quality, lack of enthusiasm and effort, and just an overall absence of common sense. It was a pleasant surprise to see IGN pick the obvious for number one on the list. I was half expecting to see some strange never heard of TRPG top the list for the “hey, look at us and our shock value artsy with deep critic over analyzation of a never heard of game” pick. So thanks for doing it right.
What I find really amazing about FFT is how after all this time and advancements made on gaming systems, it still easily holds the number one spot so much so, that the true competition is really for the number two spot. I would definitely love a remake or something new truly worthy of a challenge for number one.
Final Fantasy Tactics will always have a place in my heart🥰❤
Love this genre. Great variety to this list. Some honorable mentions: Shining Force, Wargroove, Mario Rabids, and Langrisser
I finished Fire Emblem 3H. Which one would you recommend more mario rabbids, wargroove, xcom2?
@@verfresht XCOM 2, definitely. But for full disclosure, personally I think _XCOM: Enemy Unknown_ (and the _Enemy Within_ expansion) is a more well-thought-out package as a game.
Pick Rabbids if you felt 3H was too complex or didn't have enough "zany" stuff. Pick Wargroove if you have friends who you'd like to play against.
The game in the genre that I feel is the most unknown/underappreciated is probably _Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children._ You might want to give that one a try. I'd rank it _waaay_ higher than Othercide, that made it to this list.
@@verfresht I’d recommend Wargroove after FE:3H. There’s a lot of fun battles/maps/commanders in that game.
Mario Rabids is another fun one and pretty recent game. Battles aren’t as involved as FE or Wargroove, but still a good amount of strategy and planning.
I’ve tried getting into Xcom 2 but found it to be too complex.
@@verfresht Mario rabbids is easiest to get into and enjoy right away. Xcom 1 is better imo to start xcom 2 builds off of a lot of 1 and for the love of god don’t do war of the chosen first if you do 2. Personally I did not care for wargroove at all. It’s tactical gameplay is more akin to advance wars then fire emblem. All three options are drastically different from FE gameplay though. Triangle strategy is a better choice if you want something more akin to what you just played
Langrisser 1&2 🚬🗿
Shining force 2 is number 2 behind FFT. The only reason I played FFT is because of shining force 2. Also Suikoden tactics is a great hidden gem
Personal favorite that isn't on the list is FRONT MISSION , mechs and tactical rpg yes pls
x-com 2 War of the Chosen and Othercide are 2 of my favorites and I still play them on my PS5 at various times.
path of radiance and its sequel are fire emblem at its best. highly recommend playing them.
My opinion it should be number 1 it’s one of my favorite in the series such good cast of characters and boss
Normally I don't place any emphasis whatsoever on anything idea does but this is a pretty damn good list and big points for including triangle strategy that game is just so damn good
Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, and Triangle Strategy!
Awesome list, appreciated Path of Radiance being on there. Ike’s FE games are so good.
Also, lets not forget Diofield Chronicle was announced for this year. Game looks great visually, I’m excited to see more.
This game looks absurdely good. Hope it turns out to be a masterpiece!
Ike era is my favorite and to me fire emblem is the best tatics rpg and can be challenging to especially radiant dawn
I'm so happy that FFT took the #1 spot on this list. This game is one of my favorite games of all time for me personally. It's challenging, has an amazing story and one of the best soundtracks in the gaming industry. I remembered starting it at the beginning of one of my spring breaks growing and I ended up playing it the whole week and finishing it on the last day. Honestly, one of my fondest memories growing up and it's why FFT will be forever in my top 5 greatest games of all time. If you haven't played it and you think it's too old of a game to try out then I would say I thought the same thing but then I downloaded it again on an emulator and replayed it around 10 years later from my original playthrough and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it has held up over the years. It truly was ahead of it's time and I would absolutely love to see a remake of this game.
Played already like 4 times. Such a great game
the most remarkable thing about its soundtrack is its coherency. All of the tracks manage to be totally distinct while believably sounding like they came from the same world.
You should check out Fell Seal Arbiter's Mark. It scratches the FFT itch really well.
Instantly get goosebumps with the bumping ff tactics music 🎶
I was saying Let Us Cling Together better be on here haha. My favorite of all time
FFT War of The Lions was the first ever game I bought for the PSP AND first ever SRPG and I was so hooked and in love. I've never played another like it
Allow me to introduce you to its father: Tactics Ogre Let us Cling Together
For people who don’t like turn based RPGs please give tactical RPGs a chance. They are so much more satisfying imo and far less grindy (lol unless it’s disgaea then the grind is fun)
Solid List.
Stella Deus (PS2), Hoshigami (PS1). These are amazing games, I recommend you to try these if you have not.
A few more for me, Shining Force series, Dark Wizard, Military Madness and Gears Tactics and Rabbids Battle Kingdom were quite enjoyable too. Dark Wizard for the Sega CD was my first tactical RPG and hooked me into the genre.
Dark Wizard is just for those who know TRPG outside the mainstream
@@claytoncampelo Dark Wizard might be too complicated for the general players trying to get into Sega CD for the first time. Its not real straight forward between the battles.
Yes. Dark Wizard!
Yea, thats where it all started for me. @@jimnowlin8094
If you haven't tried Brigantine your missing out! Also they just made a new one! I'm playing it on the switch!
Shining force 2 should have been here.
No Shining Force 2 or 3? The Shining Force III scenario trilogy (fan translation available in English) is my pick for the best tactics rpg ever made.
I am glad they had Xcom 2 on there, though. That’s a masterpiece, as well.
God I wish Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn were on Switch.
I can relate with this list (albeit not with the order). If Into the Breach can be considered the same genre, it would be top 3 btw.
I am nearly finished with Valkyria Chronicles right now, and the game is amazing. It's basically a anime WW 2 strategy RPG, that answers the pressing question: what if in WW 2 each side had anime weapons (like a Super Saiyan)?
I buy both the first one and 4th on Steam, hasn't finished it.
But I finished the second one on PSP
The first one is my second favorite game of all time after ogre battle 64. I could play it endlessly
Yep it had WW2 +anime bs+ dbz power ups at random and for some weird reason a Disney musical.... seriously why was that there ... I loved that girl but that song made me glad she was dead... seriously wtf
@@pkkiller_apathy4568 Isara slander will NOT be tolerated by me! She was precious, and beautiful and knew how to fix and pilot a tank. low-key god-tier waifu material.
I beat 4 a few months ago and just beat 1 about a week ago. I love them both even if they have a lot of anime tropes.
Thanks a lot for mentioning Othercide in the Top 10, it's such an honor! It means a lot to us
You must try "Birgandine Series"
Doesn’t Divinity Original Sin 2 count as a tactical RPG? If so it would be top of my list.
Tactical RPGs are more than just turn-based. They are completely battle-focused. They can have story scenes in between battles, but usually do not have world exploration and freeform NPC interactions. D:OS2 is a full RPG.
@@maxducoudray If so I don't think The Banner Saga qualifies as a Tactical RPG.
@@shingnosis You may be right about that. I haven't played it myself.
In a way it is but stretegy RPGs are usually games where you control "armies" that fight on vast game boards. Yes they can have exploration as seen in some games like shinning force and Dragon Force but Divinty is more like a regular RPG with a "turn" based fighting and movement system. Its allot more focused on exploration and NPC interaction then most tactical rpgs.
@@loganholmberg2295 I'd probably agree that DOS2 is a "turn-based RPG" rather than a "tactical RPG". Although the lines do blur.
I thought about Front Mission on SNES, Valkyrie Profile on DS and Advance Wars on GBA. They have either great storyline, great mechanics, scaling difficulty !
FF tactics introduced me to TRPGs but my favorite will always be Front Mission because of my love for mechas/customization/storyline
A surprisingly well thought list. Do not agree 100% but I can respect and agree that all games on the list are among the best.
Also kudos for putting 2 Fire emblem on the list.
That Three Houses section gave me life because of Ferdinand Von Aegir.
Best boi 🥰
Literally my favorite sub-genre of my favorite genre.
Final fantasy tactic is the reason i fell in love with tactical RPG.
there is another game "Hoshigami" that kinda have the same art style with FFT, but FFT will always be the best tactical RPG for me.
There are better PS1 games of the same genre than Hoshigami, I thought it was a good tactics game after FFT and Tactics Ogre, until I found Vanguard Bandits, Vandal Hearts, Eternal Eyes, Front Missions 3 and Saiyuki. There is also Tearring Saga, Arc the Lad and Brigandine which are great SRPG too but with different art style and more larger scale battles.
After playing Hoshigami for some time the gameplay mechanics became bland for me, the Coinfeigm system is luck based, and the Session/Push chaining attack gimmick is hard to pull off, i successfully made it once but the reward of pulling this off is nothing at all, I just lost interest in playing through it. But this game looks beautiful, I dare say much better graphics than FFT.
Banner Saga series is a god damn gem. The list is great, I would only change from XCOM2 to XCOM1.
I’m so happy to finally see Disgaea on a list! I think 4 is the GOAT, but happy the series gets a shout out!
FF Tactics is a timeless masterpiece and one of the best games of all time, it needs a re-release !
Nuff said
I’ve never understood why people find FFT to be the best tactics game of all time. It’s good, great even. But I always found the jobs system to be not very fun. And the story is so cheesy.
They need to HD-2D remake it!
@@jbivphotography They likely will. Square Enix is no longer in the business of making new experiences. Only rehashing old ones.
In the meantime play Fell Seal! It's honestly a modern FFT and better than anything on this list.
Project Zone are great games too, also theres the amazing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
You all should try this game: Troubleshooter. Such depth, story and playability.
No Shining Force, no Advance Wars? Overall a solid list, but no Shining Force is almost criminal.
Agreed.
It's been too long since the last SF and they were good but not groundbreaking they belong somewhere in 11-20 position.
Advance Wars has a very solid gameplay but it's hardly customizable and the story is pretty much irrelevant
Advance Wars is one of my favorite game series of all time (and I'm in agreement with most of the list presented here, FFT being my favorite game of all time), but one thing Advance Wars is not is an RPG. It deserves many accolades, but I disagree that top RPG is one of them.
And no Vandal Hearts. :-(
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle won strategy game of the year in the same year Xcom 2 was also nominated, just saying
Robbery
That's pretty fucked up
I'm surprised that one wasn't on the list.
Fell Seal Arbiter’s Mark needs some love
Shining Force 3 Trilogy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> this list.
FFT. Could anything else have been number 1? I think not. Still one of my favourite games of all time, if not my number 1. Practically perfect in every way.
Tactics Ogre is the superior game
I think Final Fantasy Tactics is the "greatest game of all time." Happy to see it at the top of this list of tactical RPGS. Btw, there has been a lot of love for FFT lately on the interwebs (even more than usual); hopefully this leads to a true sequel or faithful remake.
Imagine FF with a combat like the newest FF and a story like FFT... or just remake FFT, I'm sure a lot of FF new fans haven't played FFT yet. Please Square Enix....
@@ramza8355 No. STOP with nearly EVERYTHING being action/real time combat. Needs to be more of a balance.
Id like to see a Final Fantasy Tactics remake with a Valkyria Chronicles approach to map design, Being able to control units around the map like that would be pretty awesome
The resurge in popularity likely has to do with the mobile re-release.
No mech tactical rpg? Front mission and vanguard bandits are pretty great as well IMO
Battle Brothers would be on my personal GOAT list, for sure.
Man, I can't believe the original Vandal Hearts didn't make the list. That is a REALLY good game as well. One of my favorites.
The 2nd is arguably better. Way better story, better OST. The first one is more fun though.
@@awesomereviews1561 Ok, that's good to hear. I started the second one, but never finished it. It's definitely on my list (very long list) of games I'm going to go back and finish when I get the chance.
@@awesomereviews1561 imo i can't get use to the battle system in Vandal heart 2. Two teams moving at the same time are kinda hard to manipulate things propbably.
Vandal hearts unfortunately is not popular
@@hiro6164 That could be true, but it wasn't about which games are most popular. There's lots of games that aren't necessarily "popular," but are really good.
I was just saying, Vandal Hearts 1 is a REALLY good game. Especially if this genre is being discussed. It's definitely up there "in my opinion."
