just ordered this with Bridge II... can you folks make some more updated videos on how to use this with the major streaming services like Tidal and Q? Ideally how to connect it? Ethernet?
After enjoying your review I lusted for a PS dac. Wish I could afford one. I’m using a decent (not cheap) dac and a nice amplifier. I took my amp to a friend to try and he hooked it up to his 30 year old turntable. Couldn’t believe how good the sound was. I’ve read that quality digital music is indistinguishable from the original and this may be true but at what price? I believe that dollar to dollar vinyl still sounds better than digital. At least vinyl from before digital or maybe processed with state of the art digital equipment. After digital being around this long, why can’t it outperform a similarly priced media? $10 thousand dollars to sound better than vinyl? Ease of use, digital all the way, but it should sound it least as good for the price.
I realize that this video posted more than 1 year ago, and while I am looking forward to listening to the PS DirectStream DAC myself (fortunately, I have a local dealer here in Cleveland, OH), I did want to make a small correction. Email did exist in 1980. A then 14-year-old named V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai started working on the first electronic mail transport system in 1978 and was granted the copyright for the term EMAIL in 1982. Here's a link to his story: techland.time.com/2011/11/15/the-man-who-invented-email/
Great story, great Product introduction. Warms my heart to see so many nerds so pleased. I cannot wait to tear the innards out of my PWDAC and turn it into a PD/DSAC.
Too late PS. A company in Europe that’s part of Pro-ject is already getting funding to produce Hi res vinyl and it will be on the shelves in a year. Longer playing time due to closer groove spacing and grooves that allow the stylus to reproduce 100% of the information, really wide sound spectrum something like 16-30k. 10,000 pressings per master so It’s all over for cd’s and streaming and all that crap but vinyl will live long and prosper🖖🏻
Can I just play the devils advocate here Paul. If DSD is a better technology then why didn't PS Audio embrace this before releasing the Perfect Wave DAC?
Haha...I'm with 'altops' - its the curse of the audiofile; to pay one hell of a lot of money to hear something that may (or may not..) be present on a recording. I wonder if it makes bad recordings sound good...anyway, altops it applies right across the HiFi world; and you know what, we can always choose not to invest (my eyes are still watering from the Naim Signature Amp sticker price...)
Well as a Music lover and audiophile who listens to Vinyl, CD/SACD and high res WAV & FLAC files not to mention a current Audio Engineering student DSD and DSD DAC excite me beyond all belief and I haven't even heard DSD yet in person!!! but as a 26yr college student who is basicly poor I am extremely disappointed and a little angry that all these DSD dac that are showing up all seem to cost well over $1000. Granted I did find the Teac UD-501 Dual Monaural D/A DSD Converter for $649.99 but that is still to expense. Unfortunately in order to enjoy DSD you have to be part of the %10 of rich people. damn Shame.
***** I must retract my previous statement. There are DAC's out there that do support DSD for under $1000 not many but they exist. I just found out that my Oppo BDP-103 can playback DSD but because my Marantz AVR doesn't support it my Oppo automatically Converts the DSD files into PCM. Which still sounds amazing but I wonder if pure DSD would sound better. If your new DAC does what you claim it does then that excites me!!! Are PS audio products sold in Brick n mortar HI-Fi stores or just online cause I would love to demo the new Directstream DAC? If so are they sold at Hi-fi stores in Seattle cause that is the closets?
Regarding 1980 - We did have internet, but not in every house. By “internet” most people actually mean websites, which would not be available until 1994. We did have email, just not in every house. We did have the PC, but not Microsoft Windows until 1985. Getting facts wrong doesn’t help your story. This comment is not meant to be harsh but constructive.
Smood47 I figured it’s that point in your life where your house is paid off, the kids have graduated and you don’t care about spending thousands on high end audio. These old guys I’m sure have a better trained ear than most younger people.
One of the best videos in the series... Congrats,Paul and the PS Audio team... Absolutely amazing!!! :)

A great video, Paul. I've saved it to my PC for future viewing.
Paul, I agree entirely.
This feeling of hearing
new detail happens to me
all the time on a simple
1000$ headphone setup
with a good portable DAC.

Congratulations on the launch of your new product (baby).
Went to the site and I can't locate information relating to the cost and specifications of the new DirectStream DAC and upgrading my existing DAC.
***** Ok, so where and when can we hear the DSD? I am personally located in the Hamilton Ontario Canada area.
sorry is there a link to pt2?

Wow if this is marketed right we could be looking at some new billionaires if there not already

Surprised how old the crowd is. These guys can still hear ? lol

Ridiculous. Its called confirmation bias. Also a room full of old people with a lot of hearing loss.
