    RIP Arnie. Had Infinity SM152. Got Kappa 9 and still have them. Wanted to get my hands on a IRS BETA but never found a good pair to buy. Got the IRS Epsilon and they are still my main speakers.

    Amazing story. When i was 13, my uncle just out of the military, Hand made me a 30w rms x2 amp. Just a box with a lit push button on the front, and on the back, speaker level in & out, fuse, and a power cord . I had made some speakers with radio shack drivers, but nothing to power them but a boom box. This is what got me into Audio. My first car audio system at 16 was infinity speakers. RIP Arnie, & Uncle Patrick.

    Another Thank you for putting this up. It’s great to get a glimpse into the man that designed so many wonderful speakers. I say this as I sit in front of the new to me Delta-Gammas. I’m in awe.

    Ohhh the last minute of this video, Paul and Arnie arguing about the wine. Than you see how they have managed to build some great audio gear. Arnie is like: "No no no!" and Paul is like: "all right, we arguing later about it". That's something called synergy. Now I understand why Paul is talking so much about Arnie. It was his best friend (in audio). You see that there's "something" between those guys. And that was something very special.

  • @MitchDenham

    I somewhat feel out of place, being a punk kid and a metalhead (with a side of Johnny Cash) interested in high-end audio. Everyone talks about opera and orchestral music when it comes to high-end audio, a genre of music that I'm simply not interested in. I think Opeth is really as close as I get.
    Regardless, a wonderful speech and I thoroughly enjoyed Arnie's story and storytelling. Sad to learn he's since passed. I genuinely believe that when I have the means, I'm going to fit out a room with PS Audio gear, I love the genuine content Paul and the team put out.

    Sigh! Being retired myself, and not very wealthy, unfortunately I'll never be able to afford or enjoy equipment like this. Even if I could afford it, I'd have to battle with the wife to justify owning such equipment. I do, however, understand that you get what you pay for these days. Oh well, will just have to carry on being jealous I guess. I've not yet reached what I want from any high end audio equipment, I just have to grin and bear it! I do try to get what I can from what I can afford! Which is a budget the likes of you chaps would laugh at. Even building a listening room is an expensive task for me. Depressing isn't it lol. Perhaps I should give up watching vids like this, what I don't know I won't miss. Tata!

    • @scottyo64
      @scottyo64 6 років тому +1

      Just do what you can with in your budget. I am sure "audiophiles" wiuld laugh at my system but being an "audio enthusiast" i can say I like the way it sounds. No big budget, no nice tube amps etc just good ole music that brings joy to my life.

    • @zogzog1063
      @zogzog1063 6 років тому

      Air Ram. I am with you brother! Please consider this: Beethoven has something to say. It is important! It truly is. It is a message in music: Melody, Harmony, Form, Rhythm, and Instrumentation. We have a Hi-Fi. A Hi-Fi already contains all those elements and so you so not need anything else to immerse yourself in this meaning. You want to move up to High End Hi-Fi? so do!! You will get better timbrel accuracy, better soundstage, even a better illusion of the musician in the room. But you will not get better musical understanding, because you even had it at the low end of Hi-Fi.
      Imagine a picture of a bright eyed boy giving his sandwich to a scruffy dog. The digital image is at 1024 x 768. you get the MESSAGE! Let's go High End and have a 4K image. More detail to be sure but the message and emotion is already there.
      Conclusion. Go High End if you can afford it, but do not if you cannot afford it because 100% (not 99%) of the musical meaning has long since been achieved.

      I have pieced together a mid level system from craigslist used stuff and recapping my own speakers. Upgraded one thing every year. Used equipment. One item i bought later was a power protection unit from furman. Twice it has saved equipment from overcurrent event. I bought large 8awg speakers cables in my 20s and have been using them since.
