This is not actually part of the line... this was the delivery of a new train over a rarely used freight line. Do your research before making disparaging comments
Thanks, I think the person who gave the negative was meaning negative for the train not the video. I noticed a few negatives on other videos of smart so that's what I'm thinking. Unfortunately
Capture Marin SMART is better than nothing, but c'mon, BART would've provided more frequent, fast transit that connected the region with the rest. That's the only negative to me.
DarPower1 There's a reason no mass transit train system to Marin has been implemented. They are very conservative and thinks a subway system like BART brings unwanted things like crime/poverty from urban city centers.
There already exists a freight train corridor that leads to napa junction and vallejo, but they would have to pass through the Schellville Railyard and I think the Napa Junction one too
+360Nomad I suspect they rowed out there just to turn the bridge just for this one train. See the boat moored next to the bridge at the start of the shot?
+Andrew Musselman That is correct, the rail person showed up about an hour before and rowed the boat out and rotated the bridge so that the bridge was ready to go about 20 minutes before the train arrived.
great! video train starts July 2017 www.pressdemocrat.com/news/7148701-181/want-to-try-out-smart?ref=NextDoor&artslide=0 but I'm afraid it can't carry that many people. There's only 2 cars per train
The train's regular route is North-South but this train proved that the East-West route is also practical. They would upgrade the bridge and right-of-way and install positive train control system before passenger service. I've seen freight use this route in the past. Connects with Vallejo. Great footage.
HIgh-speed rail service! Impressive. Looks like Rhonert Park to Larkspur Landing in about 3 days total commute time?
This section is slowed down seen as an adjustable bridge isn’t very sturdy. But some parts the smart train goes 80 mPH :)

It is because we need a BART extension and not a train to Solano County.
Simply amazing. Very nicely done.

No paint and maintenance budget for such a nice and unique bridge ?
Great video. Thanks for posting!
That track goes to Schellville (population- Cows). They should extend it to Vallejo & add bike lanes.

This is so cool! Thanks for posting.
Note: this is not the route the train will run on.
This exact Train used for transport people directly from the international airport to the heart of downtown Toronto
Well, probably not this *exact* train. :)
Yup!
I turned that bridge many a time back in the late '70's. It's nice to see other transportation going across it other than freight.
lol that was just to get the passenger trains into marin now it's back to freight. That may change with smart's fairfield extention tho
Wow! It is so unbelievably rock solid I was thinking it was CG at first. Excellent work! Was this just a GoPro or something larger???
I wonder what it's like to be the dude sitting in the control tower of that drawbridge all day.
+360Nomad WHY DO YOU KEEP SHOWING UP EVERYWHERE!?
nelson lederer I am Big Brother. I am anywhere and everywhere.
Now off to Room 101 for you for being a Brony.

Where is this place
Awesome light rail! Even though it's diesel, it's still cool! I hope to ride it one day!
Aint light rail bro
Marin - how are the homeowners enjoying it? How fast do the trains go? Is a bus on Highway 101 faster?
Exceptional Work With That ! Very, Very Nice ! : >)
now that is a very interesting bridge for trains.
Pretty music!
+Teresa Tang Thanks for the Offenbach.
Why was it going through Black Point? That's not their route.
Randoman35 it came by rail all the way from Toronto, mostly as regular cars in a freight train.
great! video

Man they could easily afford a bridge in the Bay to get to SF.
You'd be surprised...
Why are they so freaking slow.
Testing phase.
It's an old bridge, built in 1911. Don't know if the bridge could handle any faster...
damn this is fucking dope
this is what nightmares are made of..going on a road the ends...over water!!!! with old pilings in the water. no thanks!
Un-rapid transit.
Doesn't look very smart to me
It's so smart that it runs on diesel
Put some more appropriate music. I thought here was in Europe..... It's right here in the North Bay .....come on guys
