    Stalin was 5 foot 5. Dang. All my previous viewings of him I thought he was a huge behemoth. Puffed up Power.

    Really the phrase 'an unlikely hero' should never be used to describe Josef Stalin.

    Soviet industrialization could not have been achieved without utter ruthlessness and a lot of know how from the West.

    If Russia didn't attack and weaken Poland earlier, it would have created a buffer of resistence against Germany. That was a huge mistake.

    • @HateTheIRS
      @HateTheIRS 3 роки тому +5

      Then Germany would have occupied the whole of Poland

    • @simonw1313
      @simonw1313 Рік тому +2

      Hardly. By occupying the eastern half of Poland they creating a buffer (in terms of space) between the Soviet Union and Germany as otherwise the Germans would have over-run the entirety of Poland.

      September 1939 British Prime minister Nevil Chamberlain declared war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland.
      June 1941 Hitler attacked the USSR.
      December 7th 1941 the USA joined the war when they were attacked by the Japanese and when some days later, Hitler declared war on the USA.
      Britain was on its own for over two years, held out in France for as long as possible and defended itself successfully in the Battle of Britain.
      Holding out on your own for more than 2 years is hardly crying out for help from anyone.

      With all due respect, a completely idiotic statement. Russia provided the manpower to do the lionshare of the fighting to destroy the Wehrmacht, but they would have collapsed like a house of cards, if not for the unimaginable amount of aid the USA and Britain provided them

    In the wartime propaganda series "Why We Fight", they indirectly referred to Stalin's speech. I don't know if what they said about his speech was accurate, but regardless, this was how they interpreted it:
    "(...) this war is not an ordinary war, it is a war of the entire Russian people, not only to eliminate the danger hanging over our head, but to aid all people groaning under the yolk of Fascism."

    It was the greatest battle or series of battles of human history .. 40 million soldiers fought for four years .. 100k tanks and 200k aircrafts fought it .. same no of artillery pieces were used .. only battle of kursk is simply unbelievable... Stalin was so ruthless that gulag prisoners happily volunteered themselves for ckearing mine fields bare footed... If 10 million germans were not engaged in this war they must have fought against allied forces in west Europe Italy and north Africa and let me tell you very clearly that allied have not won the ww2 ... USA UK france and china must have lost the war against Hitler.. hitler s weapons were of top quality and one .. Stalin was so clear in his policies that he prisoned his daughter in law and geandkids .. when hitler wanted to exchange his captain son with general paulis of sixth army stalin said is Hitler a stupid .. ? He can have a captain in exchange of a captain.. he was a true man of steel...
