Most kids start participating in tee-ball, soccer or ballet when they hit school age. But in some towns, they can try a slightly more unique and interesting after-school activity. Every year, around 200 young people from ages 7-21 train for the Peru Amateur Circus in Indiana. Founded in 1959, this event draws spectators from all over for a week of festivals, parades and circus acts. Multiple generations have been through this training and many have even joined professional circuits. Known as Circus City, Peru, Indiana is proud of their long circus history and the amazing opportunities they offer kids from the community. I have enjoyed bringing groups of children to this circus over the years. We have to travel 4 hours to get to Peru but watching the youth perform is well worth the trip.
