    What a classic beauty. I love seeing the original engine type. The gravel package and airstair makes it even cooler. 48, eh? Why that's just a whipper snapper. Plenty more years left in 'er.

    As a worker at a Canadian international airport, I've had the unique pleasure of seeing old Nolinor, Air Inuit, and Chrono 737-200s take off right before or after a MAX 8. It's always so cool to see the vast difference between the two, and I love that their both still flying at the same time. It really is a testament to the success of the 737.

    While it's rapidly changing with every flight I'm taking, the majority of my flying has been in 737-200's. First with Pacific Western, then with Canadi>n, then a smattering of NWT Air and WestJet when they flew them. I've even flown on a few of the 737 Combi's where you boarded the plane from the back end. I always preferred a seat around row 16-17 because you'd get that sweet view of the reverse thrust buckets opening up...Lots of special memories on those!
    I gotta wonder, how many times can one zero-time an airframe to keep it flying? Must cost Nolinor a fortune to be able to keep flying these old birds, but without many alternatives for jets to unpaved runways in Canada's north, I guess they kinda have to.

  • @roye2479
    @roye2479 Рік тому +2

    Most -200s are still being used because they can be equipped with a gravel kit for landing/takeoff from unpaved runways up north (notice the deflector on the NLG and vortex diffuser in front of the engine inlet), if it weren’t for the P&W jt8 engines being too loud and thirsty, there’d be still lots more.
    The airframe was built for lots and lots of flying.

    Aloha Alex! Wow, the sound of the engines brought me back to the days of Aloha Airlines here in Hawaii! The old LIH airport had no jet ways and thus no push backs,, so the exhaust of the engines would shake the windows. Those were the days! I still prefer flying Aloha Airlines versus Hawaiian Airlines for inter-island some 25 years ago. Maybe it was a newer model 737? And Hawaiian Airlines was flying something other than the B717? Wow... what are the odds of stumbling across this video. This plane may be old, but she is well loved and sees some adventures! I'm almost certain I flew on this exact plane in 2015. I boarded in Waterloo (YKF) and we stopped at Iqaluit (CYFB) to refuel. After refueling, we continued north to our final destination, deep into the arctic circle. We landed on a 2 km gravel airstrip with lakes at each end. I had no idea it was possible to land something like this on gravel! I've never seen anything like it before or since. The Nolinor team must be extremely talented and a little mad! After de-boarding, the plane returned back south. Watching this aircraft take off from the gravel runway unreal. It appeared to just shoot out of an immense a cloud of dust like a rocket. I stayed on-site for a week and then returned back on the same plane. What an absolutely surreal experience!
    While typing this, I found a photo I took of the aircraft. I can't quite read the registration number, but I am certain this was the exact aircraft. Thanks for a trip down memory lane!
