If you can get to a point where you can start a stream and guarantee at least a few viewers will show up and engage with you then you've won. The hardest part is thinking "is this stream going to be a fun one or is it going to be another 0 viewer run?"
And if you on top of that can get those people to keep subbing to your 3-hour workday, 4-5 days per week schedule, then you've fooled all the people all the time
I streamed for about 2 years and saw a small amount of success, but it quickly spiralled into being to concerned about the numbers and "exposure" and all that fomo shit. It just became an unenjoyable chore. Props to those who can not take that shit too seriously and find success, but yea I agree with Lord Arnis, that is definitely a very small % of people.
It also changes how you play a game. I like being alone with my thoughts and taking in vistas and stuff. Streaming would take me out of that mindset for sure and I’d just worry about what I’m doing and if it is interesting or funny.
Streaming for me was the only way to recapture that feeling of playing games for my younger siblings when I was growing up. I haven't seen them in like 15 years. Sometimes my step brother would pop in. One day, my little sister came by the stream and watched me play Paper Mario for a while. I got to re-experience that older brother feeling again. Pretty cool opportunities these days, man.
I used to stream for the fun of it, with a few friends and a few regular viewers outside of that friend support who would join in, but about 6 months ago I had an ordeal with online stalking that ended up also resulting in some less-than-ideal situations on Twitch. Had to delete all my accounts and make new ones for stuff like Discord and Twitch. Haven't felt comfortable with the idea of turning on a stream again, but hopefully that'll change sometime next year. I really do miss it...
Thanks for this. I'm getting into streaming just to recapture that feeling of playing games with people (as opposed to versus people nowadays) and this is a nice reminder to just enjoy my hobby without imposing further ambitions on myself. So cheers.
It's like stage acting, or stand-up comedy. Maybe people do these things as a hobby sometimes without an eye to a career, but lots of people get into acting or stand-up with the dream of making a career of it eventually. And streaming has big advantages over both of those. You're your own boss, you set your own hours, you aren't dependent on auditions and getting gigs all the time, and dealing with red names in text chat is WAY easier than dealing with hecklers in a live audience, or worse, dealing with the mortifying awkwardness of a dead room. Text chat, you can just turn your head away and magically everyone just doesn't exist until you turn back. And you can block people all you want, if you're that thin-skinned, instead of trying to convince the staff at some random theater to kick someone out. Streaming is like if you take acting or stand-up comedy, and strip out almost all the horrible parts of those professions. You don't even have to be funny, script your own jokes, or stay on the script of a stage play.
fir aris its another day at the office but he made his own office by accident Aris is like one of those epic beard guys who keeps the park clean voluntary even tho 1000s people appreciate it thats not the whole reason why hes doing it
It's impossible not to treat streaming like a job especially when you start growing. Aris is just a different breed where he can stream while having fun like a hobby and be entertaining.
Lord Nopants, please upload this RE playthrough if and when aris finishes it. Wacthed all the RE playthroughs on the channel multiple times over the years and love them expect 4 as for some reason the audio for a good few of the videos of the RE4 playthrough are out of sync and unwatchable :( Anyways, Cya diary!
@@n0pants seems to be from between part 7/10 onwards. 10 specifically begins with a weird flash of colour as the video starts. Weird thing is I just went through them on my phone app and they seem to be working normally, so I tried watching through my TVs UA-cam app aswell, but they are still out of sync for that. Videos 7 and onwards are completely out of audio sync for my UA-cam app on my TV but fine for my phone it's really weird, maybe it's just me and I have the issue, but I swear it was out of sync on my ps4 app a few years back aswell and that's why I gave up watching it in the first place. I get it though man, not much can be done at this point unless he does another playthrough anytime soon. Please upload if he does. Again, Cya diary
I start to appreciate streamers more when I think about how annoying it would be to actually entertain a crowd of people while Im really absorbed in a game. I would probably forget to speak a lot lol
Everything aris said is true the most important part is to have fun because if you treat it as a job then you going to be a miserable streamer and if you can at least get five viewers everyday you made it a start for yourself.
I like the idea of having a small community, not pander to what is popular. But yeah I like playing games when and for how long I want (in my case less than an hour). Drawing was a hobby and I tried as a job... awful, drained and lost interest. It's about balance and finding change if you do get bored.
Getting exposure is hard and you gotta be patient. Although I always bring myself an excuse that I want to watch my old gameplay sometimes. Also it wouldn't feel useless if it's not on Twitch but on YT, its like uploading lets play where people can watch later on.
Isn't that the point, tho? You are already playing games (and maybe talk to yourself) a lot, might as well stream/upload the footage. Maybe someone will end up watching them. There's 0 risk involved.
Thats the thing. I've learned this with life, and from Dave Chapelle: "Don't get in between a man and his money." If you take away a man's way to make money, its like killing him. Respect the hustle, dont get fooled, but only talk if asked.
It’s funny because I can name at least three or four streamers that treat it as a job, And they seem absolutely miserable.. just something they have to get threw for a buck Not to mention every IRL streamer I’ve ever seen. Talk about sending your life down the toilet..
So what I'm hearing is, streamers are nearly homeless people that beg on the corner of Twitch and youtube for rent money. Right, gotcha, I don't give money to fully homeless people begging on the street either. Get a job like the rest of us and stop expecting people who have jobs to carry you through life because you can't be bothered

The secret is to keeping it new.
If it’s not new, it’s through.

Tip to the younglings: Go for a stressless job. Working overtime and being stressed out all the time isn’t worth it for any pay.

I always appreciate Aris' insights in streaming. Thanks for getting me into streaming, and congrats to everyone that got partner :)
Aris has talked a lot about this over the years and it's honestly super interesting every time lol
Aris' INT may be lacking, but his WIS and CHR are capped out, and that's what you need to live your best life
