Yes. The opening and closing themes/credits were a huge deal up into the 1990's when most of them were seriously degraded to make room for more commercials or intro gags. Thought and effort was put into TV opening theme songs for shows 1980's and earlier.
@@LandSearchEngine To add to it, VCRs were uncommon at the time, so you couldn't fast forward through an intro. Also, people tended to channel surf since the only way to know what comes on at what time was a pain. The intro had to be good because it told the premise of the show and it had to capture the viewer's interest so they wouldn't change the channel.
That was so cool,so much of this childhood stuff from the 70s,80s was great, can you believe the catchy stuff they used to educate kids back in the day!
I miss this show so much. I can always remember the preview stuff they show from when I watched it as a kid. So awesome. I love the theme song...loved this extendamix version!
I remember watching the reruns of this (sadly I was not around for the initial run, as I was born in 1992), but I still remember this theme always getting me pumped to learn something new.
My gosh, this brings back memories! I remember watching tis in class around third grade, maybe second as well, and I'm pretty sure fourth grade as well.Or at least e teacher had one of their magazines in fourth grade. It's a shame kids today don't have educational programming this good.
We were talking about how LeVar Burton is trying to bring back Reading Rainbow (excellent idea) at work yesterday. This show came up. Sadly, there were people in my office too young to remember it. :( Someone should also try to bring this back, because it's pretty sweet.
MavHunter20XX I agree with u old sesame street was the truth but when they revamped the show something was missing. the old sesame street everything blended well and a child could laugh and learn at the same time. It's way to serious now and they try hard to have children grow up fast. on one of the latest episodes of sesame street they were trying to teach children how to get a newspaper to look for a job. The concept is good but would a child really understand about all that.
Don't forget Square One TV. It was a great show to learn different math. These kids have nothing to really educate them like back in our days. We were prepared for preschool and so on watching these shows
I never missed an episode. My favorite show growing up. Kids in my class used to always wonder why I aced the Science test in school. 321 contact was the answer, but I didn't tell them that.
Remember last year when the Blues Clues guy made a video about how proud he was of all the now-grown Blues Clues viewers? I want these kids from 3-2-1 Contact to show up and tell me what a great scientist I've become. lol
This is definitely the best version of this theme. The other versions made changes that weakened the song. Especially removing that intro guitar riff...I mean...that riff MAKES the song!
Thanks for sharing this!! I randomly hear someone count down 3-2-1 and this starts playing in my head with the flying numbers. I remember all the images from the part of it that stayed fixed with the lightbulb, match, baby, frog, etc. Love it.
The good old PBS back then when there was a lot of education programing including Square One, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, Where in time is Carmen San Diego, Zooboomafoo with the Kratts, the original Barney and Friends, the original Sesame Street even Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Rest in peace Fred Rogers. He passed away 20 years ago on February 27, 2003.
nostalgia overload. thank you for this..... also, like it or not.... that cat is long gone dead lol. I do stuff like that.... like watching movies from the 1930's and 1940's wondering how many people are still alive from them lol
Da reason 3-2-1 Contact's theme song sound'd 70s b/c its was MADE in 1979 when that and production [in general] wur goin' on b4 its Jan. 14, 1980 debut; makin' it 1 of da first TV show 2 air in da 1980s.
I remember this theme song more than the first one, but I kind of like the slower one better. The vocals have that touch. The main thing that always gets me is that "photon" synth effect when Childrens Television Workshop comes racing across the screen. Catchy!!!
Season 5 in 1986 has the same theme, but the last shot of the rocketship blasting off is replaced with a volcano erupting. I think there are another one or two changes for season 5 as well.
Was every theme song from the 80's epic or what?
Yes. The opening and closing themes/credits were a huge deal up into the 1990's when most of them were seriously degraded to make room for more commercials or intro gags. Thought and effort was put into TV opening theme songs for shows 1980's and earlier.
Make sure you dig up the first episode, where they show the recording session for the theme music.
when quality was a priority. I miss the 80's

Being a very musically sensitive child often the themes had more of an impact on me than the actual show.
I broke many land speed records, cycling home from school to watch this :)
This show helped me become the fantastically brilliant man I am today.
The 80's rocked!!! I'm happy I was there for all of it!!!
Oh my god... sometimes I am wondering if I am at the end of my life when I revisit and tie in loose ends such as this.
my favorite version of the 3-2-1 contact theme song
Mine, too
There’s other versions?
Loved that Contact was replayed during the 90s. Big part of my childhood
This, the much sought after guitar solo version is the most epic intro to a science show that has and will ever be created.
😂so much this!❤
Might as well make a 30-minute loop. Such great music. The theme was my favorite part of the show when I was a kid.
A show that actually makes learning fun and exciting.
Man I loved this show so much, thanks for uploading this piece of my childhood
this needs to be on Netflix!!!
I say THIS needs to be on HBO Max!

+Russ Taylor Kids these days dont know what the hell that guitar did to us.
Memory lane can be a trip
Dam I remember this, was very young but always remembered that drop of water and the frog catching the fly.
OMG!!! I remember this song from the 80s. Who's here in 2021?
I love the way the numbers zoom away !!! This takes me back to my childhood
That was so cool,so much of this childhood stuff from the 70s,80s was great, can you believe the catchy stuff they used to educate kids back in the day!
This show is AWESOME!!! Watched it alot when I was a kid.
I miss this show so much.
I can always remember the preview stuff they show from when I watched it as a kid. So awesome. I love the theme song...loved this extendamix version!
📢🔉 BRING THIS BACK ASAP!!
I feel so bad for the kids of today!! 😮
OH, WHAT A TIME WE HAD!!♦️👌🏾
I remember watching the reruns of this (sadly I was not around for the initial run, as I was born in 1992), but I still remember this theme always getting me pumped to learn something new.
Ah, the memories. Too bad there's no programming like this anymore.
very sad.
+MetalSlugzMaster yea the shit they got now makes you dumber when you watch it...
I remember watching this show when I was a kid...Them were some good times
Bring this show again! It's better learning at home or wherever besides school!
We love this show too much. It's just too awesome!
For no apparent reason, this song come to my mind, so I had to find it on UA-cam. Awesome song and show. Thanks.
My gosh, this brings back memories! I remember watching tis in class around third grade, maybe second as well, and I'm pretty sure fourth grade as well.Or at least e teacher had one of their magazines in fourth grade. It's a shame kids today don't have educational programming this good.
That frog is a trooper. He should be the ever defining symbol of this science show.
My gosh this theme had me dancin' as a kid...found myself dancin' to it now!! 3 - 2 -1 Contact!!!
We were talking about how LeVar Burton is trying to bring back Reading Rainbow (excellent idea) at work yesterday. This show came up. Sadly, there were people in my office too young to remember it. :(
Someone should also try to bring this back, because it's pretty sweet.
I hope they don't screw it up like they did sesame street.
MavHunter20XX
That's two of us.
But like every awesome thing from when I was a kid, if they bring something back, they WILL screw it up...
MavHunter20XX I agree with u old sesame street was the truth but when they revamped the show something was missing. the old sesame street everything blended well and a child could laugh and learn at the same time. WHOA! what a blast from the past! Thanks to the uploader and UA-cam recommendations, lol! Both allowed me relive this precious memory!!😆😆😆😆
I never missed an episode. My favorite show growing up. Kids in my class used to always wonder why I aced the Science test in school. 321 contact was the answer, but I didn't tell them that.
oh how i loved this show....
Remember last year when the Blues Clues guy made a video about how proud he was of all the now-grown Blues Clues viewers? I want these kids from 3-2-1 Contact to show up and tell me what a great scientist I've become. lol
I grew up with this show as well.
Man every time I hear this song I get transported back for just a moment and it feels so good.
The only retro PBS show without a later spinoff
This is definitely the best version of this theme. The other versions made changes that weakened the song. Especially removing that intro guitar riff...I mean...that riff MAKES the song!
Yes, it is.
Oh my, i remember this show and i loved it.
By far one of the best t.v. themes ever and from the CTW of all places the Electric Companies theme was awesome too.
I was just born when this came out, but I remember it, what a great show
I loved this show!!!
This was one of my most favorite shows!
Whoa....this takes me way back!
U was just thinking of this recently. Good times 😁
The version I remember the best! So epic!
Happy 3-2-1 Day! Let's make contact!!
Thanks for sharing this!! I randomly hear someone count down 3-2-1 and this starts playing in my head with the flying numbers. I remember all the images from the part of it that stayed fixed with the lightbulb, match, baby, frog, etc. Love it.

This was a part of my childhood 💪💯
I miss that 70s disco guitar sound
nostalgia overload. thank you for this..... also, like it or not.... that cat is long gone dead lol.
I do stuff like that.... like watching movies from the 1930's and 1940's wondering how many people are still alive from them lol
All these kids in the intro are in their late 30s - 40s now
Definitely 40s. I was 5 in 1983 and am 42 now. I am sure they have fond memories of the show!
Holy crap. I totally forgot about this show until now. Nostalgia here we come!
I remember watching this everday after school on channel 11.
Channel 8 here.
this intro music is amazing
Contact: is the secret, is the moment...
Snakes on a plane, that song is WAY funkier than I remember it as a kid!!!
Oh hi childhood!!! 😃
This brings me back to everything good.
TV was so much fun back then
Frikk'n awesome levels of awesomness!!
I could listen to this intro all day.
Even though this was an 80s show the theme was so 70s.
Da reason 3-2-1 Contact's theme song sound'd 70s b/c its was MADE in 1979 when that and production [in general] wur goin' on b4 its Jan. 14, 1980 debut; makin' it 1 of da first TV show 2 air in da 1980s.
Love my childhood. Thsnjs contacts
Watching this video brings up nostalgia.
Then I start feeling old when I realize the baby in the video is almost 40 years old.
i remember this show
When the teacher brought the television out and this came on I was in heaven 😊
I miss this show
Sooo good!!!! Born 07-16-1980
I miss this show.
I feel like something is being unlocked when I listen to this
this show makes you hungry for Nolage !
Holy crap, I watched reruns of this as a little kid. I'm talking single digits. God, sweet memories.
Yes! I also thought that the baby and the frog looked alike.
This is my childhood.. I'll be 38 this year
as i did research on the internet they would be in there 50's and all of them are still living
I remember this theme song more than the first one, but I kind of like the slower one better. The vocals have that touch. The main thing that always gets me is that "photon" synth effect when Childrens Television Workshop comes racing across the screen. Catchy!!!
God why does everything suck it big these days?
I feel 6 again.
I sampled this song a long time ago using Fruity Loops. Too bad I lost the file :(
Season 5 in 1986 has the same theme, but the last shot of the rocketship blasting off is replaced with a volcano erupting. I think there are another one or two changes for season 5 as well.
The opening song was sped up after the first season.
"Contact is the reason, is the answer why everything happens!"
Including STDs, sex assault arrests, lawsuits, the usual!
I still remember the "3-2-1 Contact" magazine.
The best time of my life
exciting!
Blue Red Green Gold blacks and whites is pretty slick to be honest
0:46-0:47
is my favorite part of the video
wish episodes were available somewhere, even through say the PBS Video app
@0:10 Lake Mead completely full at this time..
Today brought me here
3 2 1 contact must have gotten their theme from CHIPs
It's the reason why everything happens.
Someone needs to incorporate this into a vaporwave.
THIS ROCKS SO DID KIDS IN CORP.
Major funding for 3-2-1 Contact is provided to you by the National Science Foundation
The look on the cats face.....😂😂😂
