VC - Don’t put performance pressure on yourself. That’s not why all of us have watched for 4+ years. You’re popular because you’re relatable. Because you race and ride for the same reasons we do - because we love riding and racing bikes! A lot of us will try our hardest, train like maniacs, and never finish a Crit with Legion-caliber guys. We’re going to get dropped the first time up the hill in the Sea Otter Classic. We might do a gravel race and stay with the front group - for a hot minute - before we finish 30 minutes down. We can relate to how you juggle family, work, training, and life. We relate to your frustration of training as hard as you can and still not getting the results you want. We relate to your joy at seeing your children succeed at life. We relate to your joy at riding and racing your bike. and we relate to your sense of humor in your success and failures. (I laughed for 10 minutes straight at your Sea Otter meets Nintendo video) Whether it’s impossible routes, gravel, crits, road races, etc - remember that your success doesn’t define you to your fans. It’s your joy at riding bikes, your humor, and your honesty that brought us here and keep us here. Keep that optimism and keep riding all the bikes. Cheers. I started racing 4 years ago (I watched your Crit videos on the trainer for motivation). I try to see myself in your approach to training and racing. I’m good, not great. I try hard, but still get dropped sometimes by people who are just better and more talented than I am. Like you, I’m trying to juggle a job, family, training, and life.
That was my kid you almost stole!! VC, Thanks for being so kind to my kids, they’re still talking about how they met you. It was such a fun race! Can’t wait to race it again!!!
THIS is the kind of racing we need in cycling! I couldn't agree more that even as a cyclist, road racing is a total snooze fest to watch. We need courses like this that force you to find the limits of grip in order to win.
You may only be a very good and not out-of-this-world cyclist, but in terms of cycling content creators, you're winning the Tour de France. You're probably the biggest vlogging-style cycling channel in the world because you make awesome content. You deserve all the hype.
Hey VC, you didn't say - how did you do overall?! Also, I agree with everyone else. Not to be corny, but we love you for you. You're open, honest, we can relate to you, you share your mistakes as well as your triumphs, and you genuinely care about not only your content, but also about your fans. Just keep being you, dude.
Tyler you are so cool. Loved it. Your enthusiasm is so contagious. You're such a great narrator. What a spectacular event and can imagine your joy over it!!
That. Looks. Like. A. Blast! Being a moto guy, a mountain bike guy, a cross guy, a crit guy...I could relate to everything you were saying and I loved the block passes in the last couple of corners! I hope this format gains traction!
Damn right! Great race. And man I feel you. Sucks to find your niche only to find it be a rare thing. I won my first archery run biathlon only to find it is the only one and has not happened since! Why does running with a long bow have to be my happy place! But at least you can be the king of this race and maybe organize a circuit at some point.
They should definetly do more of these, watching it even feels incredible much more enjoyable as all those other formats it's exactly like you say. Now, how to convince organizers to put up more of these?
bro going top 10-20 against legion and other crit teams means that you're like top 1% of the top 1%, you're already one of the best and with you finding your own niche will only get you to another level.
Thanks for coming out! I was at the first one last year and no one knew what to expect, but everyone walked out after smiling, happy and stoked. So we were really looking forward to this second event and hopefully with your exposure more people will show up to the next one. Eric put in a great event and it’s spectator friendly ッ great job out there
You do deserve the attention. You are helping to bring cycling to the masses, more importantly your an amazing ambassador for all of us who punch it out in the middle of the pack. You rock VC. Deal with it 😉
Man, that was a video. I appreciate all the work you put in those videos and also your awesome adventures on the bike. Don't let yourself down! It's not the medal you win, it's all about the motivation, experience and snot you get. Also i appreciate the course! keep on rocking! :)
It seems You talk down to your self more than you ought to. You have inspired me so much just in training, UA-cam presence, handling life, work, family, and hobbies. You definitely have a gift in that, for sure!! Thank you, and keep up the good work, my dude!!
How can this Not be a thing!? The format just seems to be a great fit anywhere in the world, especially now road races are getting so much harder to run and not everyone has "gravel".... Pls don't tell the UCI tho 😉
This is freaking awesome! Hope CritCross gets huge. We don’t watch you because you win every race. We watch you because you are so relatable and a great story teller. You are the Seth Alvo of the road bike.
Great to see you stoked by the event. And don't underestimate your contribution to the world of cycling. Your content creation adds so much more than someone who just podiums. This video is an awesome example of your skills. Had me on the edge of my seat for 30 minutes!
Man, your videos are next level. This is a great breakdown. The drone footage and the editing... Also, keep doing what you do. We have watched for years because you're straight up honest, not because you win everything. You get the attention for the hard work, for the honesty, for the humility (and because sometimes you do crush it)
VC, Bruh! I am so happy for you and your performance in the race. I was cheering super hard and grinning ear to ear, happy to hear how excited and happy you were. I hope this season is full of this level of joy for you. Keep mashing bro…yeeeah.
You totally crushed it Tyler! Was so cool seeing you find something that suited you SO well, and how happy it made you. I can't wait till the next one, and try it on an actual road setup next time to see if that will help or if I just suck at this stuff lol :)
VC, your one of the best video editors and storyteller on UA-cam. Your also a great racer/rider of bike bro and your a family man also! With top tier level fitness. Don’t put yourself down keep that “f u”mentally you’ve earned it!
What a cool course. Great Race VC. I think you are selling yourself short. We see you blow up on some races and you're still in the top group. This is your year buddy !
Imagine a course like this but it's world tour pros, mtb pros, cyclocross pros that would be crazy peter sagan would probably do really well considering his power profile and bike handling skills.
@@yoda112358 let's wait till the end of this season to say that I think he's still got it but mabey not prime but in a moto road gravel course like this Sagan would reck
The idea has its roots in the 1980’s “Superbikers” events which pitted the best motorcycle racers in different disciplines against each other on one course ua-cam.com/video/JZxHM2Ac0iY/v-deo.html
All grins aside, you are smokin' the tires, VC, you are riding high-performance bikes as a high-performance rider and congrats on that, enjoy the ride and the podiums and the whole enchilada. And who knew they'd make a race just for you, asphalt and dirt and jumps and drone footage, wild and very cool. And I do commend you for making the most of it as a cyclist and friendly personality and I recall the best racers being friendly, too, during my childhood when my Dad was involved in auto racing as an engine builder. And in a couple of photos from a race in California in '65, my Dad is smiling next to Ken Miles, who was smiling and styling in his shades.
Loved the Vince Friese reference. And good on you for crossing over into multiple cycling disciplines, growing the sport. Thought you might have gone missing in the Rockies in your last video but glad you made it out to race another day!
Bro keep doing you! It doesn’t matter to me how high you finish, rather, it’s how you make your way through these challenges and the stories that are born from said challenges that inspire me to go out and ride my bike. We love you no matter what you do man! Ride safe and free always!
Your best video. Whoever hypes you up, I feel like you earned it, simply as a content producer. In the pro peleton, pros get dropped bro. Putting yourself on the line in public, that's a challenge in itself. I hope you and your family continue getting the joy bikes bring you and less of the pressure that comes with chasing performance, which in my eyes, you are perfectly fine at. All the best and wishing you good health.
I've watched(&subscribed!)for years Tyler. Was genuinely moving to hear you sounding so fucking happy! Don't know if I cried, or just laughed so much I cried but thanks for the video; that was perilously close to beautiful. DaveX
This WAS AWESOME! Tears of joy bro! You are the best. This video felt 10 min long. Just what I needed to watch to get ready for my upcoming road race.💚
I would LOVE to see crit crosses being a thing! Looks so dope! I could totally see it catching on with gravel making such a big move the last couple of years and roadies getting a taste for dirt/offroad.
That’s one of the best cycling videos of all time! I’m too old to be in race shape now. This would have been my race favorite too. Id love to see the speed of Walt van Aert on this track

So true!

This may not be an official thing, but as a fellow cyclist who is a master of all, champion of none, this SHOULD be an official thing for sure.

My favorite part of crits is when someone attempts a Frontside Method Rocket-Air Rusty-Trombone in the big-air contest.
I wonder if a shorter crank would be an advantage for this type of race?
