OMG...as a lover of Mercurys and vintage Cougars especially, I can't wait to see this finished.
Me too!
That top and rear end is a work of art. ❤
Thanks man and thanks for watching
Absolutely awesome build, can’t wait to see the final result!
You and me both bud!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 hey hey you okay?
Hampton cheer you up a little bit on Ness channel is a colorized version of 1920 traffic in 🌏 Australia 🦘.
That looks KILLER! Shame Mercury didn't do one!
Thanks man they should have
It's the car Ford should have built, but honestly your version is probably better than what the factory would've done. Really looking forward to seeing this all done out with the wheels, paint and interior. There's a part of me that would've liked to have seen it with all the chrome, maybe a set of magnum 500s and little white line tires... You know, the grandma/secretary version that would've been late 60s appropriate. Hard to argue with a coyote and some appropriately modern tires though!
Thanks man. Love getting praise from a Chevy guy 😁😎😉
Gonna be a mean cougar.
That's the plan!! Cheers mate
Looks great. Thanks for sharing
You're a very talented man, can't wait to see more.
Thanks man! Should be. A cool car!
I've been intrigued by this one since I first saw it. Fantastic job so far, and thanks for filing in some of those blanks. Your craftsmanship is much admired Chris. Going to be an absolute beauty when it's done.
Thanks bud!! This is one of my favorites for sure!!
This is just an amazing project. You sir, are a dream maker. Hats off to you.
Thanks man! Keep watching, this is going to be a fun one !!
I'm coming up short on words to adequately express the greatness of the work done here. Kiwi will get more customers from this.
Well thanks man!!
Great ideas and engineering Kiwi. Always a learning experience in Kiwi's classroom. Thanks again.
Thanks man!!! If people are getting stuff out these vids that makes me happy😎😎
It's easy to see that you demand perfection.
It has an AMX look about it.
Your not the first to say that my friend. I just see Cougar but maybe I'm to close to it....
NEATO build. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Cheers mate!!
Always loved those cars! I had a '68 Dan Gurney Special for fourteen years.
Nice!!! Ya shouldn't have sold that......
In the '70's I owned an R-code '69 Mach 1, and I always thought the marriage of a '69/'70 Sports Roof onto a Cougar would be awesome. This is one of your projects that keeps me coming back to your channel. You are largely creating a one of none combination that has occupied my imagination for decades.
Glad your enjoying it I know I am!!
Seeing this car up close is amazing!! Lots of talent going into this one.
Cheers mate!
Very cool great craftsmanship ✌️
Cheers mate, thanks for watching!
Thank you mate
At 6:42 I couldn't help but think of how good a Cougar would also look as a ute.
I know right! And I'm looking for a new shop truck.....
That titles sounds like a night at the bar story.
Lol your right!!🤣
I liked the design of the rear of the Cougar and the elegant outward-curving spoiler and balanced side lines. It doesn't look like a clumsy long barge now.👋👍
You make it look so easy but it's not a lot of time. A lot of work. Lot of planning. It looks really good. Looking forward to the rest. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Thanks man. I think this one will be pretty special....
All I can say is WOW, that looks AWESOME!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
That's a beautiful shape 🤩,
Well done sir 👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching
A true one of a kind! Cant wait to see it finished.
The owner feels the same!!😁
One of the biggest reasons that I subscribed. I'm not a Ford guy but this car is so right! Can't wait to see it get started!!!
Thanks man. This one is going to be special!!!
It looks good already. There was a cougar concept car that had a mustang fastback on it. To bad kiwi didn't work for Mercury back in the sixties. Maybe they would still exist.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
OUTSTANDING!
Thanks man!!
Mustang and cougar being based on the same chassis sure helps! The dimensions were really close.
Yeah the dimension put it in the same ballpark. We looked at a Torino roof but it was just too big
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Never the less still an amazing graft.Well done sir!
@@pauljones2031 Cheers mate
Waiting to see the Barracuda again. As always your work looks like it was always there. Thanks for the stills, they show how much longer the Cougar is at the window cut outs, like how you used the flange at the rear extension to align everything. Tony already gave us a glimpse of the wheel openings.
I'm waiting for the day I have time to work on my own stuff........... glad your enjoying the cougar
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I know, my truck project has gone dormant also. Between work and life time gets short. Thanks for sharing what you have time for.
👍😎
I love the fastback Cougar.
Thanks man!! Thanks for watching
That’s a sweet looking ride. A coyote engine will probably be a pain in the ass since it’s as wide as Texas. But I guess you have to put a Ford engine in it.
They are a huge engine no doubt. We've already installed Heidts front suspension so the shock towers are gone. That helps
Loved to see more of the step by step of this 👍
Keep watching. Lots more to come
A True Professional you are Chris , people around you must be grateful for working with you and learning 👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching
Kiwi: Do you think you can install a flux capacitor and set the date to 1968 Dearborn, MI? Ford lead designers really needed to see it! 😆
Lol. I feel like they'd like it !
Damn, now I want a Cougar-chero.
I can make that happen for ya😉👍
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 when I win the lottery, you'll be getting that call!
I stumbled onto your channel and am constantly impressed by the integrity of your work. Thank you for sharing it with the youtube world!
Excellent job. Tony can't do that !!.......................Jay
Kiwi your talent and execution are just mind boggling! Kudos to you!
Thanks man!! And thanks for watching!!
If I was single no kids I’d ask for a job, so much knowledge.
You body builders/ fabricators are a special breed and are often overlooked, great progress kiwi
Thanks man and thanks for watching
Man, those last two photos!!!!
A big improvement to the car. I can't wait to see it complete.
I think the owner feels the same way😉👍
A friend of mine is heading up to Tacoma, WA for a Cougar convention soon. I wanted to go with until I found out it was about cars...😂
This is a really neat project, Kiwi.
Lol. That's funny! Glad you like it!
Just the thought of ya what the heck we can do that blows me away, lol. Looks so awesome.
Thanks bud!
That's really beautiful. I worked for a company that built a few aluminum models, but almost all steel trailers. Custom trailers for concessions etc. I learned a lot of fabrication skills there akin to what is used for custom car building. I've dreamed for years of having a shop with tools and metal brakes etc. To create vehicles like that Pontiac "UTE". Wonder job ,thank you for bringing it to us.
Great job! The end result will be worth waiting for.
I certainly hope so😁
Amazing work.
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching
Good luck with that. I’m a Cougar guy. 68 XR-7 G.
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Absolute stunner! I hope your client will take that to SEMA when you finish. Winner 👍
It's been talked about!!
Youre amazing bud...
Thanks man, glad you like it!
This is cool and sad Ford never did this.
Thanks man, Ford should have done it!!
Or perhaps they did 🤔🧐its looks strikingly similar to a Ford capri what we have in britain ,that one looks like the Zakspeed version only without the streamlined trimmings😮
@@Dannywhittle257 kinda does yeah
I remember first seeing this on Uncle Tony's channel. A vision that is very well executed. It looks great and I hope you continue to show more of it as it progresses.
Keep watching. Plenty more to come on this car
What a gorgeous car, even at this point in the project! I've always thought those early Cougars looked better than the Mustangs. Looking at the photos of the car after the back of the roof was cut off, I can't be the only one who's asking the question: Cougar Ranchero anyone?
I thought the same thing! 😎👍
would be nice to see the work being done
Quite a bit was done before before the channel was started but there's lots more to come so keep watching
...walk into a bar....
...You didn't finish the joke, but the cougar looks good 😂
It does sound like a joke doesn't it!!! I'll have to think of the rest of it ...🤔
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I hope you do lol. You seem to have a good sense of humor.
Keep up the great work. Ok to give you a shout out in my next video?
Absoluly!! Thanks man!
No yote, drop in a Cleveland!
Or a new Godzilla engine.......
Kiwi, your a legend mate, only you could make that cougar look like a factory fastback. That fastback sheet metal looks seamless. Chu bro! 😉
Cheers mate.!!
Great work. But I like the original design.
Me too!! Always have liked the Cougar now to see if I can improve it...... some will say I haven't and some will say I have....😁
I always thought the Cougar was a more elegant design than the Proletarian Mustang. Will the rear glass have a gasket and glue? A kit?
I agree ! It will be glued in like a modern windshield. No gasket
That's really cool. I always wondered why you didn't use a '67/'68 fastback for the donor there, especially since the '69/'70 Mustangs were an inch and a half or so wider than the '67/'68 Mustangs (and Cougars)...I figured the greenhouse would be wider. Looks like it really isn't, or not enough that it would require sectioning to fit the Cougar. Very nice.
It's actually a really good fit asthetically. Harder to graft on than a 67 roof. The deciding factor was being able to keep the rear side window. The 69-70 was the first fastback mustang to have a rear side window.
I ain't gonna lie- I was skeptical of how a fastback Cougar would look. I'm a long-time Cougar fan, especially the 67-68's. I've long thought Mercury should have offered a convertible version of those cars, but never really thought a fastback was right for the car's position in the pony car world. You've forever altered my belief with this. Grafting the 69-70 roof while keeping the Cougar window shape brings it all together just like you state in the video. This car is going to be a showstopper, and I cannot wait to see the final outcome. One question- are you putting the original Cougar emblems on the rear quarters? I've always loved those emblems, 67 only and kind of a stick in Jaguar's eye. Regardless, you are a metal wizard, sir.
I'm glad I was able to convert you😁. Keeping the original side windows is key I believe. Yes it will have the Cougar emblems on the fastback section I'm thinking
A Cougar, a Kiwi, and Coyote walk into a bar.....
Gotta be a joke there somewhere😁
Hey Kiwi, nice job. My I suggest you use a clip on wireless microphone . It is sometimes difficult to hear you clearly over the heavy breather! Lol
The people have spoken. Gotta get some mics😬
Scott Newstead over at Cold War Motors turned a Dodge into a Plymouth using 3 different cars. The end product is a bit too nice though. Originally the goal was to make it look like a survivor (1960 Plymouth Fury) and be a daily driver (he currently daily drives a 49 Frazer), but mission creep turned it into something too nice to daily drive.
Interesting looking channel!!
Sir you do really nice work.
Absolutely Awe inspiring..
God bless you and your loved ones
Godspeed
Cheers mate and thanks for watching!
Absolutely amazing metal fabrication work Kiwi! Are you doing a full restoration? BTW... Whatever happened to your Barracuda? It kinda dropped off the radar.
Yes she's getting a full resto. Barracuda is waiting for a bit of spare time. Unfortunately that's as rare as rocking horse 💩 these days 😁
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I figured you must have bigger fish frying. With your craftsmanship being so top notch it must be really hard to keep up. Can't wait to see the future restorations on the Cougar. Always been one of my favorite cars & that fastback just put's it completely over the top. It's way cool! Love it.
I like it, I like it a lot but not so sure I'm a fan of the rear deck lid spoiler? I think because it goes up to high looking at from the rear without defining what the original Cougar deck lid height is maybe? Or maybe because I'm bias being that I like the Cougar Eliminator rear spoiler so much? Other than that everything else is fantastic an absolute work of art! Can't wait to see the finished product.
Yeah it looks big from the back but it really isn't. It should be a bad ass car eventually😎
Love what your doing. Very respectfully, why didn't you use a 68 mustang fastback roof/trunk lid. The cars came off the same line. Another thing, some Shelby scoops would help break up the long slope or is that too much. I see you tubbed / widened the the wheel wells. What's happening for interior? Good project.
The 68 doesn't have rear 1/4 windows and I wanted to keep them so the 69 roof was a better fit. Even though the window is small it balances out the proportions nicely
I am a purist with the Cougar, but I shall reserve judgement until the completion.
I'll do my best to win you over!!
It looks so good! I can’t see the weld lines where you welded those wheel arches back in. Do you mug weld that over and over then grind and sand the weld line back out?
I haven't welded them back in yet.....
I love the level of work . Fastback looks awesome! You probably don't want to read this, but it needs an inch or so chopped out of tha A pillars. The top is a bit high in the front.. Just a suggestion.
Lower is usually better I have to admit. With this one we're trying to make it look as factory as possible which is why we've retained the stock front and side glass. All suggestions are welcomed bud. 😎
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 makes sense. It would be a load of work too.
Hey Kiwi, that Cougar looks great. It's a model that should have been made as the XR7. If it wasn't already a Cougar I would suggest a Shelby tail panel. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
Thanks man. They should have made it!
Spotted the car in the background of a UTG video and piqued my interest. This is the first one I’ve seen using a ‘69 Sportsroof. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Me too!
Damn, that's ALOT of work. No. People definitely don't know the amount of work that went into that deck...hell, I don't..but I know it was ALOT.
It hurts a bit to watch the surgery, but you guys did a heck of a job!
It was a bit nerve wracking cutting into it that much. It's not like there's a UA-cam video on how to do it....... 😉😁
What will you do with all that space behind the rear seat? I like the lines of it, can't wait to see some paint on her.
It will have a parcel shelf similar to a Torino fastback
Is the Hemi-bishi still in the works?
Yeah it is!! Time permitting.....
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Any chance on an update video or a revisit? 🤟
Be cool if it was a rear hatchback. Nice job
That would be cool !!
Nice build so far and I'm sure it will come out beautiful., I have a question: what do you do with the internal surface rust? Keep on smiling.
We're considering having it sandblasted in the problem areas. Probably the best and least labour intensive way of doing it. Just going to finish all the surgery first.
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Thank you.
who made those wheels ? mad max ? LOL.
Just wondering why the car and the donor roof didn't get dipped to get rid of all of the rust before work started?
I saw this car first on one of Uncle Tony's videos. Very cool build. Is it going to have the Eliminator kit?
Ok, what's in the Eliminator kit??
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 The hood scoop, rear spoiler, front lip, and the sticker package that was available for the Cougar back in the day.
At this stage we're going to use the hood scoop No rear spoiler as the 69 deck lid comes with a small one. Probably going to fab up some kind of front lip, nothing wild but hopefully a sexier than the eliminator one
Please kiwi,,try to improve the audio quality mate. ✌️👍🇬🇧
The people have spoken. Gotta get some mics😬
I have always thought the cougar was much better looking than the mustang.
Me too!!

The kiwi polish!!! You slick them up. I realize that you have somebody else that paints. But you're the guy smoothing out the lines and blending things together be under the hood or put a mustang roof on a cougar. As I said before the car Ford should have made. Now the purest out there did you have the purest for ethical treatment of animal named cars inspector out there?
