    Skugge original lyrics:
    Eismal sat eg ute
    Ved fot av fjell
    Ved dagsvinn vitja meg
    Skugge heitir
    Eg stirde rakt
    Skugge, rakt attende
    I mitt innerste indre
    I mitt ytterste ytre
    Båe held blikket
    Med skriande tagnad
    eg spurde vegen
    Men skugge tagde
    Med skriande tagnad
    eg spurde meiningi
    Men Skugge tagde
    Alt ljos rann
    Skugge inn
    i bjarget svann
    Med hamrande hjarte
    gol eg mot hjell
    Med dvergtungetale
    mol Skugge or fjell
    Elden tvingar deg or meg
    Sporlaus inn i notti fér
Enn du vakar djupt i meg
Vilt du dansar, tveim blir ein
Skugge, kan du svara? - Svara
Som heile sanning eig! - Eig
Når eg fyl, kvi hastar du? - Du
Finn eg deg, eg finn meg sjølv - Sjølv
    Svara eig du sjølv
    English Lyrics:
    Alone, I sat outside
At the foot of the mountain
As the daylight was fading, a visitor came
    Shadow was the name
    I stared straight towards
    Shadow straight in return
    In my innermost inside
    At my outermost outside
    We both held the gaze
    With howling silence
    I asked the way
    Shadow gave no answer
    With howling silence
    I asked the way
    Shadow gave no answer
    As the sunlight leaves
    Shadow slips away
    Into the stonewall
    As my heart was hammering
    I croaked at the rock
    With a dwarven tongue (echoes)
    Shadow replied
The fire force you from within
without a trace, slips into darkness
    Still you slumber deep inside
    wildly dancing, two becomes one
    Shadow, give me answers
The truth is known to you
I feel your haste when I try to find
In searching you I find within
    Answers you find within

How did you get to "surreal"? - Genuinely wondering. - It's definitely an oddity I had to get used to, even though I am all about these songs with slow-burn build-ups. But I did and it is quite special. - I guess just a good sign that you need to work to understand a song.

True, a treasure he is, just as you all are. Men are tanglled in time, but for the photon, it all happened in an instant, hence those that come from eternity, to eternity they shall return, for eternity is not an option, but the nature of our existence. True, energy cannot be created nor destroyed, and things that came into existence in this reality, from Energy they came to be, that which has no beginning nor end, that Energy Eternal belongs to One ruler, His Name is יהוה, the One that eyes of men have not seen, He in Who's Hands the stars of all the galaxies are like mere dust, yet even that does not give justice to He, the Almighty, the King of Infinity of Energy through Whom all things were made.
You can claim to think to know something, but on the Day of the Sun there shall be no human opinions or knowledge, for human knowledge is like wax in the presence of the Sun, and the Truth stands firm forever, for time has a beginning and an end, and the beginning is where it ends.
Anyone can speak words, but Destiny is a burden to endure for some that words cannot describe.
Be greatful for everything and fear not that which you need to endure.

Other than the spiritual aspect of the shadow, this song will always make me think of the concept of the Shadow as presented by K G Jung. That ancestral, irrational unconscious that guides us even though we never really are aware of it consciously. That is exactly what the song encompasses, the dialogue with this jungian shadow, the trial of understanding our unconscious and comunicate with it; the perfect culmination is the ending of the song - "the answers you will find within", cause they have always been there.
Beautiful Wardruna, dearest Einar and Lindy Fay Hella... true masters at work.

I think the song is meant for you to face your shadow, to wrestle with an entity that knows all your deepest fears and weakness, and bring it to the light.
For me it strucks a chord because the song starts in a pretty contemplative manner, where he’s alone, and then the dark figure appears. In a way that is how the shadow really manifests itself, quiet and unnoticed, and if it’s not seen it will move the strings and leave you at the mercy of your deepest unconscious desires.
In the song, the man Einar represents asks the shadow for meaning, and the way forward, but gets no real answer. That is until the night falls and all is revealed in an intricate dance where your self and your unconscious shadow merge. In short, for me, it’s all about growing by integrating the aggressive element of the shadow.

I also thought of Carl Jung and his shadow concept when I first heard the song! Would be interesting to know if Einar reads Jung.
I think Jung, Nietzsche and Black Metal (also Wardruna) have a common philosophy. At least they have similar ideas of individualism and nature.

I have been listening to your music for over ten years I am only 32 years old but ever since the moment I heard your voice I became engulfed in your music and have followed it since then. I have found in so many ways through the years passed a way to connect and relate to the songs through the ups and downs that have occurred. The sound that you produce has inspired me to think about every aspect of life in a different way, a better one. I have empathy happiness remorse and even anger collectively balanced at least I feel as tho better than before. I think before speaking I listen when spoken too whether I agree or disagree use my morality and soul to get through the good and bad instead of impulse. I have read many comments of people saying when they hear your music that they are home sick for a place they have never been and I thought that a response only one could make coming from the deepest part of their heart and soul. Upon this songs release I was dealing with many different issues trying to stay strong and feeling defeated sometimes the song transitioned and your words "the fire force you from within" came across my screen and I felt a sense of comfort strength and motivation to keep trying to be the best version of myself for myself. You have a gift Einar one that is not of this world and I am grateful to have your music apart of my life and it continue to inspire me to try to be the best that I can be not only for myself but also everyone in my life thank you.
