  • In an evening of salty conversation about fonts, fairy tales, and what it takes to make it in graphic design, Paula Scher and Ellen Lupton share ideas from their latest books.
Ellen presents “Design Is Storytelling,” a practical guide to narrative techniques and the psychology of looking. Published by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, Lupton’s handy new design manual celebrates action, emotion, and sensation as design’s most potent ingredients. Paula is the subject of “Works,” a stunning 520-page chronicle of her four-decade career in design. Published by Unit Editions, Scher’s tome makes a rare bookstore appearance tonight at the Strand. Buy a copy of “Works” here: www.strandbooks...

Lupton is a genius. Her work is always so thoughtful, aware, and juxtapositional with contemporary thought. She's so beyond our time.

she is exactly with the time thats why she has the positions she has. Also she knows a lot, but lacks talent or true artistic feeling and even with the information she knows she is still pretty tasteless. Lupton opts to comfort viewers with what is less than, instead of challenging viewers or their taste to improve, probably why you love her so much.

Great video. I loved Ellen’s funny quips and not so subtle admiration of Paula. Wonderful, talented women.

In the 60s advertising was storytelling, today design is storytelling, tomorrow AI is storytelling ... I always thought people tell the best stories

I think she is talking about the Abstract Episode on Netflix. Because she talked about the director being Richard Press

Dorothy went back, because there is no place like home. Apparently, she did not feel at home in Oz.

Design is a simple Contemporary, Conservative, Commercial Art, or it fails to tell a story and sell.

Why did Lupton interrupt Paula a lot ? -.-

Ellen Lupton presents a very passive-aggressive posture here. It's very off-putting :( I was never crazy about her work and the little respect I had for her decreased a great deal.

Google image search her name... it's just pictures of her. Image search Paula Scher, it's her work. That says a lot.
